How Many Servings of Fruits and Vegetables Do You Get Each Day?
OzRoo replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Not at maintenance yet, but I have been slowly increasing my fruit and veg. For breakfast, I usually have 1/4 of a large apple, grated in my yoghurt. I love the grated taste with bit of vanilla essence and cinnamon. For lunch, I add bit of coleslaw salad to my healthy crisps (Cruskits) with cream/cottage cheese or hard/yellow cheese. For dinner I have small serve of zucchinis, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and at times bit of sweet potato together with my 1/2 cup Protein (mainly turkey, chicken or fish) For dessert I have a serve of melons (any type) with berries So I guess, I now have 4-5 very small servings of fruit and veg per day. I would like to increase the amounts, but I am waiting until I am at goal, and then talk with my Dietician re maintenance program and serving sizes. -
Oh, and re sweats or feeling cold ..... The only time I felt cold was during European winters, many, many years ago. I have a thyroid disease, and I always did sweat when I was slim, when I was obese and sweat again now, when I am heading back to being slim again. My thyroid has been doing cartwheels before, and is still making me sweat now, after my 3rd med dose adjustment. I live in air-conditioning, other people freeze, but not me I long to feel cold! Can always put more clothes on, turn up the heating. With feeling hot so much, even sitting naked would not fix this for me ...... And I live in the hottest and humid state in Australia ...... And summer is coming ....... Check your thyroid ladies, it does affect the internal furnace.

@@rydersmama I will address the armpits. I had a full Brazillian laser treatment on my armpits, that also included the "Down Under" region This completely removed all hair forever, and I don't need to shave anymore. Makes life lot easier. I may next buy leg package ..... Before I gained all this weight pre WLS, I was slim, and had an inflammation of my coccyx. Very painful! I bought a dough-nut foam cushion, and made myself another cushion that I cut a hole in it. This put the pressure off my butt, and later on this problem disappeared. Even though I now lost lot of weight for me, the painful butt has not come back. If yours gets inflamed, ask your doctor for anti-inflammatories, or cortisone, even in a cream form. Good luck.

@@poppys Welcome! Good luck with your surgery and post op recovery. For me, the first 2 weeks post op were the hardest, being on liquids only, hungry and I had really bad reflux. All this is a distant memory now. Reflux is gone! At 6 and 1/2 months post op I see a massive change. I am 4 kg away from my goal weight, and 9 kg away from my stretch goal. Hit my final milestone decade today, under 70 kg, at 69 kg now. If you follow the post op instructions and quickly address any issues or queries you have, with your surgeon, psychologist or dietician, you will be fine. The last 6 months went very quickly for me, hope the same happens for you. Best wishes! PS. I lived in Sydney most of my life, then moved to Queensland

Today I reached my final decade ( Less than 22 Ib ) to be under, towards my goal. 6 and 1/2 months later I finally got under 70 kg, and weigh 69 kg ( 151.8 Ib ). Being in AU, I am used to Metric system, but with my calculator I can show Ibs lost in my updates. So, each 10 kg lost ( 22 Ib) was a milestone for me. Now, I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel 19.8 Ib ( 9 kg) to go to my stretch goal, then visit my Dietician again, and discuss maintenance. After my scales not moving for few weeks, they're on the downward slope again, Yay! I may reach my stretch goal before Christmas. This will be the best present!

How severe was your hair loss?
OzRoo replied to AchieveGoals's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm bit over 6 months post op. Did not have any hair loss. If anything, my hair is healthier and thicker. Hope it stays this way. -
Coffee Controversy: to Drink or Not to Drink
OzRoo replied to Elizabeth Anderson RD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I drank coffee pre-op, I drunk coffee straight post op, drink a big jug every day, and never had any issues with it. My surgeon advised me not to give up coffee. My first drink in the hospital was with a straw, again no issues with straws. I chew gum at times, and this has been fine also. I gave up all alcohol 9 years ago, and I will not give up my enjoyment of coffee. So, for me no issues with the "controversial" drinks, straws etc. The only thing I haven't tried are carbonated drinks post op. I was never a big soda drinker, so I don't need it and I don't miss it. -

@@northcountyr1 I was sleeved 8th March 2016, so little over 6 months ago. I have been on this regime since I started Soft/Mushy and then solids, so yes, like you I started this 8 weeks post op. All my info is in my signature, but I realise that this does not show up on the App. I have lost 70 Ib (31 kg), and have another 22 Ib (10 kg) to get to my stretch goal. My appetite has slightly increased at 6 months post op, this is why I still measure my food. I'm sure I will have to measure it on maintenance as well, but the amount will probably increase then. God luck in your journey

Brisbane September 2016 Sleevers
OzRoo replied to Feekenstein's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@novemberkilo Were you given any Zofran wafers for nausea? Hope it gets better for you, otherwise call your surgeon. Be careful re dehydration. I ended up getting Hydralyte (electrolyte fluid) for any emergencies, as I got badly dehydrated on day 10 or 12. It was a nasty experience. It felt like I was going into shock! Hydralyte fixed it in 15 minutes. Good luck with your recovery! -
That they like their boobage? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App THAT was a major party.... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes, it was a massive party! @@ovaw8ovathinka Amazing, small world! I moved to the Gold Coast in 2008. We could have passed each other in the shopping centre! Sure, no need to tell where exactly you are. To send me a message, just click on my profile name/photo, then select Private Message. Or, you can go to your own Profile section, find me under your Friends, and click on me there. What I can do is to PM you, so this way it will be easier for you. Yes, it is a huge site, and takes a while to get to know it. I was operated on by dr. Jordaan at Pindarra Private. Anyway, it would be good to keep in touch, especially if you think you may have your surgery on the Gold Coast.

NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
OzRoo replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh you poor girl! It is tough when everyone smokes around you. I hope you get a good solution from your doctor tomorrow. I remember how in the 1990s I was in LA, sitting in an out-door cafe, having a smoke and how I was treated like a lepper, and looked down and criticised ..... Then I went to New York, and there smoking was OK ..... Anyway, I don't miss smoking at all now. Best wishes for you @@Heatgirl03 -
Pre-Op Worries About Post-Op
OzRoo replied to ineffably_yb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ineffably_yb I have few surgeries under my belt, and the VSG wasn't so bad for pain. The most noticeable pain I had, was on my left where I had a large drain tube. Not everyone ends up with a drain tube either. Other incision sites were OK. I had a week's supply of oxycodone, and took it as needed. I too braced my abdomen when coughing or sneezing. I felt Water and liquids going down my oesophagus, but it wasn't painful. I was surprised how quickly I felt better. This certainly wasn't the most painful surgery for me, I had others lot worse! Good luck. May everything go well for you -
For the first 3 months I was taking chewable Bariatric Multis, plus vit B12 in a spray. Once I finished my BN Multis, I tried regular Multivitamin, and it made me nauseous. I then tried cutting it in half, and taking it twice a day. This worked for me, no more nausea from regular multivitamin. Still take vit B12 in a spray form, powder vit.C, and massive Calcium/D3 now. All good. I am 6 months post op, so now I can tolerate some things better, but still cut my multi into halves, and take it twice a day.

NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
OzRoo replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Heatgirl03 Have you tried nicotine Patches? Nicorette gum? I used to smoke, I also used to quit many times, but could not stay stopped. Finally last year my thyroid disease made me quit cold turkey, as even one puff was choking me, and I was losing my voice, as I had a lump in my throat. The reason I am mentioning nicotine patches is that they could help till the medication takes effect. So, you still have offices where people smoke? Smoking was banned indoors, here in Australia, many years ago. Anyway, good luck with everything! -
Great! Years ago I moved from Sydney to Bribie Island. I live on the Gold Coast now. I'll add you as a Friend, so it will be easier to find each other or PM. If you ever come to the Goldy Coast, please let me know. Margo
