  1. Awesome results! You are doing so well Congratulations!
  2. @@lowbmi65 Wow, your op is coming around very soon. Good Luck! So far I have lost bit over 70 Ib, and I can notice some loose skin in my upper arms, bit in the groin area and my boobs are flatter (but smaller, thank goodness!). Everyone is different, it depends on age and genetics, how quickly one loses weight, amount of resistance type training, and other factors that I may not know of ...... With 50Ibs you may not end up with much loose skin, but you won't know until you are closer to your goal weight. Type " Loose skin " in the Search button, and see the threads and posts on this topic.
  3. I feel literally lighter ! I am Not dragging 2 heavy suitcases with me everywhere I go Oh, and getting noticed and turning heads again ..... LOL

    Gall bladder?

Yes, the reason for gall bladder removal is presence of gall-stones. Some people develop gall stones after VSG, some don't. If gall-stones are present and found before VSG, then the gall bladder will most likely be removed at the same time. Healthy gall bladder will not be removed, as mentioned above.

Phase 4 - Cleared for Vegetables.

@@trekker954 I forgot to add, that I too ate lot of cooked spinach earlier on. With Proteins, once I was cleared for Soft/Mushy stage, I cooked minced chicken with ginger and sauce, minced turkey, minced veal and minced lamb. I only dumped after minced beef, so I stayed away from it. And I ate poached salmon also, with nice sauce. If you are not doing this already, perhaps try cooking minced proteins with sauce to keep them moist, and see how you go. Good Luck!
  10. Hey, Who mentioned kangaroo ???
  11. @@Niko*Oreo Now this is a great example of mature and responsible attitude! I hope you get approved soon. Best wishes
  12. I am glad it worked out for you. However advising another member to disregard their surgeon's post op instructions is downright dangerous! How do you know that mushy foods won't harm her, 8 days post op? Share your experiences but please do not give out advice like this to others. Only licensed medical professionals can do that. There have been quite few stories of leaks, sepsis, peritonitis, serious complications and emergency surgeries and even deaths for some people who did not want to follow their surgical team's instructions. This is a major surgery, and not following post op instructions can have dire consequences. Better be safe than sorry!

    Dehydration

@@Serenity141 Definitely call your surgeon ASAP. You don't want to get badly dehydrated and end up in ER. We can go without food for long periods of time, but not without Water and fluids. I had a particularly nasty and scary Dehydration event, early post op. Lucky someone recognised it and gave me Hydralyte to drink (electrolyte drink), and I was good in 15 mins. Perhaps get yourself a bottle of electrolyte Fluid or sachets, and keep handy for emergencies. Also, because of all this vomiting, the danger of dehydration is magnified. I hope your surgeon can give you Zofran wafers for nausea, or Stemetil or Maxolon, or whatever works for nausea. Good luck, and feel better soon!
  14. Thank you, @@Ebony Rose This was an unexpected NSV ...... Need velcro strapped shoes .... LOL Great fashion statement ....
  15. Well, my feet are considerably narrower! Some shoes fall off me now, LOL Looks like a trip to a shoe shop or 2/3/4 maybe happening soon ......
  16. @@ppressey24 Gosh, don't blame you ..... that is definitely tougher. I thought that 2 weeks on liquids post op were hard enough, and managed to get through it with gritted teeth and clenched fists ...... Yes, I was sick of Protein shakes too, and yet at the beginning I loved the chocolate and coffee ones. Towards the end of my 2 weeks I was really over the shakes too. I ended up buying neutral flavour high Protein powder that I was adding to my Soups and V8 juice. I was drinking lot of broth at that stage. I was craving salty/savoury taste. Good luck with your pre-op diet, hope it goes quickly for you. Best wishes.

  19. @@staceface You will be given pre and post op instructions, and here on this forum there is lot of great support and wisdom. Just take One Day at a Time, don't awfulise too much as the negative results/complications are a small minority. I had many surgeries in the past, and this one was easier to recover from, and much less painful. It is a journey, a process, a journey of discovery and amazing transformation. Have a read in the Gastric Sleeve Success Stories forum. Lots of great examples there. So aim for progress and not perfection. I fell off the wagon few times with ice-cream, but then hopped straight back on the program and healthy eating. It is a new and exciting phase/new chapter in one's life. Once you start seeing results, it will keep you motivated to keep going
  20. @@staceface I am 5"5 and my op weight was 222.2 Ib (101 kg) I am also lot older than you are I have lost 70.4 Ib so far (6 1/2 months post op), and the only loose skin I notice is in my upper arms, plus a bit in the pubic area. Everywhere else is OK. I know I have to do more arm exercises, but really, I have been wearing sleeveless tops, and the bit of loose skin doesn't really look too bad. I'd rather have bit of loose skin than being obese. As to post op diet, the fluids/liquids only phase was tough for me, for the first 2 weeks, then it got progressively better and easier. My stomach capacity has changed, I can't tolerate certain foods, and this is fine with me, I lost many cravings, and my taste buds have changed a bit. So, I can still eat most of the foods but in smaller amounts. And I don't crave bread, Pasta, potatoes or rice. I am happy with healthy Protein and non-starchy veggies. And melons became my best friends. Good luck to you!

    Gall bladder?

@@slick-13 Type "gall bladder" in the Search section, upper right. It should show up threads and posts on this topic. I had my gall bladder out many years ago, as I had a huge stone there, and I was in horrible pain. There are few members here who had their gall bladders taken out at the same time as VSG. Few of them had gallstones though. Few members had their gall bladders out few months after VSG, so it really depends. Good luck with your surgery.
  22. No, never! I was on liquids for 2 weeks, then on purees for 2 weeks, then Soft/Mushy for 2 weeks, then finally on solids. Even though I was sick of liquids, I stuck to the program, as I did not want to have any leaks, sepsis, peritonitis and major complications. The first 4-6 weeks post op are crucial for the baby stomach to heal. After 6 months, the stomach is healed, but before that time, it is really important to follow your surgeon's instructions diligently. Yes, calling your surgeon and talking about it is important. Just to be sure. Good luck.

Phase 4 - Cleared for Vegetables.

Well cooked cauliflower and broccoli, zucchinis are easy to eat, bok choy. Later on I tried well cooked brussell sprouts, and they were fine. I usually add a nice cheese sauce to the veggies, bit of salt, and they taste good

    Laxative question

The anaesthesia often affects the bowel, makes it more sluggish and also liquid only diet is not conducive to bowel movements. I was taking Osmolax for quite few weeks post op, and this helped. These days, being on high Protein diet, my constipation is back, but I can take stronger laxatives now. I also had to give myself an enema once. Even though I drink plenty of Water, this does not help me, so every few days I take a mixture of Coloxyl and Dulcolax. They work. I think that once I can increase my vegetable portions, it should make life easier. I hope so, anyway. Good luck to you. Gentle laxative are advised early post op.

Clammy and dizzy 3 weeks post op

Dumping is horrible. I had it with beef, soonest I ate beef, it came straight back out, then felt extremely tired and headachy for the rest of the day. Another time was with a drier scrambled egg, it got stuck in my oesophagus, then I had this awful burning in my chest, travelling higher, and it had to all come out as well. Again, I felt exhausted and not well for hours. I haven't touched beef since nor scrambled egg. Soft boiled egg and poached egg is OK. When I told this to my bariatric dietician, she confirmed it was dumping. Haven't had any episodes for the past 2 months. Funny enough, I can have minced lamb, minced veal and lately tried minced pork, and I was fine with these types of red meat. I used to live on steaks, but not anymore .... chicken, turkey and fish are my main staples, with some red meat occasionally.
