I had to do it for 2 weeks, the pre op diet. I messed up too, couple of times and it wasn't an issue. That's great that you spoke with your Bariatric office. Why are you worried that you will be turned down, after 1 slip up? Did the office tell you this? I know it is hard, the pre-op diet, and after your surgery you will have to follow the post op instructions strictly as the new stomach needs to heal. The post op food phases are very important for healing and preventing complications. Hang in there!

Hi and Welcome! I used to live in Sydney's Eastern suburbs, but moved to Queensland few years ago. On the Gold Coast now. It is normal to feel scared and anxious before this surgery. I had few surgeries before, and never felt nervous, but with the sleeve, I was anxious for a good week before. Then it happened, and I am now 8 months post op. Had a pretty good recovery, wasn't as bad as I imagined it to be. Good luck in 4 days time! Let us know how you went. Best Wishes to you

@ Love the Witcher. I have all 3 parts plus some DLCs. I only just started, but the graphics are fantastic, story is good, and plenty of amorous scenes as the Witcher charms the ladies, or females seduce him. Plenty of action in this game, and often you have to be very quick. I just love the First Person Role Playing games and the Shooting/Survivor/Adventure games. It is like being in a movie. So, I am sure you will like the Witcher. If you don't mind bit of horror and plenty of adventure, Frictional's games such as Soma and Amnesia Descent into Darkness are just mind blowing. Awesome games!

@@Sai I play the games on both Mac and PC. I loved some of the older ones, like Amnesia the Descent into Darkness, all Penumbra series including Necrologue that I seriously got stuck on, half way through the Twilight of the Archaic. I also loved Bioshock 1. Started on Bioshock 2, and need to spend more time in the manual, as some of the keybindings have changed, and I am not that great with the drill ..... Give me machine guns, grenade launchers, Napalm etc., anytime! Absolutely loved SOMA. Played it twice. I am half way through Outlast, and just started on the Witcher ...... LOL Loved Layers of Fear and the Inheritance. It was nice not to worry if you're going to die, for a change. And many more. Started playing those games when I got sick with my thyroid. They kept me occupied and often I would forget how lousy I felt ....... Let me know if you are on Steam.

Killian's Gastric Sleeve Journey
OzRoo replied to Killian's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, stupid Graves ..... I saw my Endo 3-4 weeks post op, then blood tests every 6 weeks, next Endo appointment was 3 months later. Still have 6 weekly blood tests, and still see her every 3 months. She also communicates with me via phone and email. I finally sleep better, my blood pressure and heart rate has come down. Prior to that, I had to go back on beta blockers and sleeping tablets, as the hyper state kept me awake at nights for months! As Thyroxine is so very weight sensitive, each significant drop in weight was bringing hyper thyroid back for me. Now, even though I sleep much longer and much better, I am still tired, still have awful headaches and really bad allergies. All hypo symptoms. So, this next med adjustment may finally do the trick ...... I hope so! Got to keep an eye on the thyroid post op, that's for sure. -
Killian's Gastric Sleeve Journey
OzRoo replied to Killian's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awesome @@Killian ! Glad you are doing well, and that your surgery will be at a convenient time for you. Must be great feeling to look forward to retirement next year This will be so beneficial for your recovery! So, best of luck for July 2017! I've had a pretty smooth recovery. I am almost 8 months post op, unbelievable how quickly the time flew! The only major issues I had were/are my thyroid disease, Graves. Because I was losing lot of weight, I had to keep having dose adjustments, as I ended up hyper-thyroid few times. Not pleasant ..... Recently my Thyroxine has been halved, 6 weeks ago, and I was told today that my TSH and labs are normal. Well, I have not been feeling well in the past 6 weeks, and had many hypo issues. TSH at 3.4 seems too high for me, so this now will be the 4th adjustment, to bring it to 1.0 One day, hopefully it will get stabilised. Good luck with your thyroid too, Killian. Thanks for the update! Cheers, Margo -

Will I be broken forever?
OzRoo replied to kjkashmaniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@kjkashmaniac Thanks for the update. I am glad vomiting brown liquid is not happening anymore. I was concerned that you were vomiting blood. So, heal up well, and hope you are feeling better soon! -
From 2-3 months post op till 6 months post op, I just did not feel hungry, and I ate lot less. I too wasn't big on meats t that stage, I ate mainly chicken, turkey and fish, yoghurt, few veggies, softer fruits. When my stomach healed at 6 months, my hunger and appetite returned. I can now eat veal, lamb and pork. Beef was an issue for me, I threw it up twice (minced beef), and I haven't touched it since. At almost 8 months post op, I need to have regular meals again, and I definitely can eat more these days .... but still measuring my portions until I hit goal, then see my Dietician re maintenance. Also, my weight-loss has really slowed down. Good luck, and if the restriction is bothering you, please talk with your surgeon, just to make sure.

Will I be broken forever?
OzRoo replied to kjkashmaniac's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@kjkashmaniac Sorry to hear that you are feeling so unwell right now. The vomiting of Brown Liquid caught my eye. Have you spoken with your surgeon about it? He needs to know that. Also, as mentioned before, do you have any anti-nausea medication from your surgeon? Although I did not suffer from nausea too much, I was sent home with Zofran wafers. Please check on the Brown Liquid, and let us know what your surgeon said. Bet Wishes to you! -
Lower starting BMI and weightloss
OzRoo replied to RJrocks's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with above posters. Losing more gradually allowed me to have very little loose skin (only in upper arms) and completely no hair-loss. My hair actually got healthier. I also agree with others' advice to Not compare your own weight-loss with other people. It is a very individual journey. -
That happened to me too, early post op, and I was on a PPI (acid reducer). I stopped drinking V8 and tomato juice. The surgery can create acid reflux. I elevated my pillows, had OTC acid remedies, nothing was helping until I changed to Nexium 40mg. This completely got rid off acid reflux for me, as prior Nexium I was really suffering for about 3-4 weeks post op. Rabeprazole and Pantoprazole did not work for me. Nexium is long lasting, and saved me from reflux hell. I never had GERD or suffered from reflux prior surgery, but I did suffer badly post op. Now, close to 8 months post op, I have slowly weaned myself from Nexium, and I am still reflux free. Talk with your surgeon and ask for a strong acid reducer. Good Luck!

Lower starting BMI and weightloss
OzRoo replied to RJrocks's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@RJrocks I had BMI of 37.1 Was sleeved 8th March 2016. I lost 70Ib in 6 months. Now I have been stalled for the past 6 weeks, at the same weight. Not too far from goal, but finding it harder now to lose weight, at 8 months post op. -

OzRoo replied to trekker954's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
@@dimz It depends how far post op you are. What does your NUT or Dietician say? For me, I could eat cream and cottage cheese on the Soft/Mushy phase. Yellow/hard cheese I started eating when on Solids, and the cheese was mainly melted cheese then. I would have it with refried Beans, or with my minced chicken/turkey dishes. Now, close to 8 months post op I can eat hard cheese with no problems. -

Now sleeved, in hospital recovering update
OzRoo replied to Butterflywarrior's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Glad you are on the loser's bench now! Congratulations! The gas pain you are feeling, under the ribs/breast bone are the remnants of the surgical gas that was used to stretch your abdominal area to enable the surgeon to see inside you and perform the op with clear vision of your organs. It goes away, walking helps. I've read that the surgeons remove this gas prior stitching patients up, but obviously this does not work in every case.... I had the worst gas pains, in my ribs and upper shoulder when I had my gall bladder removed, years ago. After VSG I was surprised I did not have any gas pains, as I was dreading it. I am glad that your pain issues are getting addressed better. Wishing you a smooth and easy recovery, @@Butterflywarrior -

Getting over the guilt
OzRoo replied to KaiserKid's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You're not overweight, you have an eating disorder. You're 5'4", 125lbs with a BMI of 21. You're not overweight in any way, shape or form, and it's insulting that you keep pretending to be. Can you stop this charade, please? Wtf! Why is this still being allowed?? Got banned for the 2nd time. Wonder if she will be back as yet another account ...... Sigh .... -

I didn't sleep well for a long time. With the weight loss, some hormones got disturbed, and also my thyroid med got too strong (it is very weight sensitive). This made me hyper-thyroid for months. I had to take sleeping pills for few weeks. Now, I am finally sleeping much better, and my thyroid med has been reduced again.

What were your worst symptoms post-op?
OzRoo replied to KaiserKid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really bad acid reflux, that finally got better 4 weeks later when I changed to Nexium PPI. Also, bit of pain, especially on my left side where I had a large drain tube. Whenever I felt a cough or sneeze coming on, I had to brace my abdomen. I did not have nausea nor vomiting straight post op. Happened 2-3 months later when trying different foods, no nausea, just quick run to the bathroom ..... Hasn't happened for the past 3 months. I am also off Nexium now, as my terrible reflux finally went away
