What kind of vitamin?
BONNIEG289 replied to NurseAmy1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I DO THE B-12 ONCE A WEEK. I TAKE A CHEWABLE Vitamin SPECIFICALLY FOR BARIATRIC PATIENTS AND Iron. THE IRON YOU CAN GET AT CVS AND THE DOSAGE IS 65MG I BELIEVE. I ALSO TAKE CHEWABLE Calcium AND Vitamin D. THE MULTI-VITAMIN I GET FROM unjury.COM. THEY MAKE Vitamins SPECIFICALLY FOR PEOPLE LIKE US. I AM ALMOST 6 YEARS POST OP AND MY BLOODWORK IS PERFECT. YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF BEING CONSTIPATED BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE CALCIUM AND IRON. I TAKE MIRALAX IN MY coffee IN THE MORNING AND ALL IS GOOD. YOU CAN USE THE GENERIC EQUIVILENT THAT IS CHEAPER. GOOD LUCK ! BONNIE -
I HAD GASTRIC BYPASS 5 1/2 YEARS AGO AND IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I COULD HAVE MADE. I TAKE A DAILY Vitamin AND Iron PILL AND B12 ONCE A WEEK. I DIDN;T GAIN THE WEGHT BACK BECAUSE MY DOCTOR PUTS A PIG VALVE IN BETWEEN THE STOMACH AND THE INTESTINES TO PREVENT THE OPENING FROM STRETCHING OUT. THAT IS WHY A LOT OF PEOPLE REGAIN THEIR WEIGHT. MY BLOODWORK IS PERFECT AND THE ONLY DOWN SIDE IS THAT I TAKE OMEPRAZOLE DAILY TO PREVENT ULCERS. I PROBABLY ADDED AT LEAST TEN YEARS TO MY LIFE AND HAVE MUCH MORE ENERGY. MY sleep APNEA DID NOT GO AWAY EVEN AFTER I LOST THE WEIGHT SO I STILL SLEEP WITH A MASK.

YOU MIGHT TRY MATERNITY JEANS AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE UNTIL THINGS EVEN UP.

MY DOCTOR PUT IN A PIG VALVE IN BETWEEN THE STOMACH AND INTESTINES SO THAT THE OPENING WOULD NOT STRETCH OUT. THAT IS WHY YOU DON'T FILL AS FULL AS LONG AS YOU USED TO. THE OPENING HAS STRETCHED OUT SO THE food IS PASSING THROUGH TOO QUICKLY. I AM 5 1/2 YEARS OUT AND AM MAINTAINING WITH LITTLE DIFFICLTY. I AM SURE IT IS BECAUSE OF THE VALVE.

Hair loss following surgery
BONNIEG289 replied to saj54539@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THEY PROBABLY PUT YOU ON XERALTO OR IT'S GENERIC VERSION. I HAD TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT AND THEY PUT ME ON XERALTO FOR 30 DAYS. AFTER THIRTY DAYS I HAD 5 LARGE BALD SPOTS. I ALWAYS HAD VERY THICK HEALTHY hair. THEY DON'T TELL YOU THAT ABOUT XERALTO , BUT ALL BLOOD THINNERS CAN CAUSE HAIR FOLICLE DAMAGE. THE MAKERS OF XERALTO DON'T LIST IT AS A POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECT BUT THEY CERTAINLY SHOULD. NORMALLY AFTER A SURGERY, THEY WOULD HAVE YOU TAKE AN ASPIRIN DAILY, BUT WITH GASTRIC BYPASS , YOU CAN'T TAKE ASPIRIN. MY KNEE SURGERY WAS NOV. 23RD. AND JAN 3RD I WENT TO GET A HAIR CUT AND THEN I REALLY SAW HOW MUCH HAIR LOSS I HAD EXPERIENCED. I HAD TO GO TO A DERMATOLOGIST MONTHLY FOR CORTIZONE SHOTS IN MY SCALP. MY HAIR DOES NOW APPEAR TO BE STARTING TO COME BACK. AFTER A MONTH ON BLOOD THINNERS , MY HAIR LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE WHO WAS ON CHEMO. YOU CAN GO TO SALLY'S BEAUTY SUPPLY AND PURCHASE A PRODUCT THEY HAVE THAT DISGUISES THE BALDING AREAS. THAT'S WHAT I DID. IN THE MEAN TIME, MAKE SURE YOU REPORT IT TO THE FDA ONLINE AND YOUR SURGEON. IF IT IS XERALTO THAT YOU WERE TAKING, JUST KNOW THAT IF YOU START BLEEDING INTERNALLY, THERE IS NO ANTIDOTE. IF YOU ARE TAKING A DIFFERENT BLOOD THINNER AND START BLEEDING INTERNALLY, THEY CAN GIVE YOU A STRONG DOSE OF Vitamin K TO COUNTERACT IT. GOOD LUCK WITH THE HAIR LOSS. YOU WILL FIND THAT THE BYPASS IS MORE THAN WORTH IT. I AM 5 1/2 YEAR OUT AND IT IS THE BEST THING I EVER COULD HAVE DONE FOR MYSELF. I PROBABLY ADDED 15 YEARS TO MY LIFESPAN. BONNIE -
What Have Been Your Greatest Long-Term Challenges?
BONNIEG289 replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I FOUND THAT TAKING A DOSE OF MIRALAX EVERY MORNING HAS TAKEN CARE OF THE CONSTIPATION. I STILL TAKE IT ONCE DAILY AND AM HAVING NO FURTHER ISSUES WITH THE CONSTIPATION. I HAVE BEEN GOOD FOR OVR FIVE YEARS YOU NEED TO TAKE SOMETHING BECAUSE ALL OF THE Iron, Calcium PAIN MEDS CAUSE CONSTIPATION. -
What Have Been Your Greatest Long-Term Challenges?

I am 5 1/2 years out and the only down side for me was that i have to take omeprazole every day to prevent ulcers. I was hoping that my sleep apnea would go away after loosing all the weight, but I still have it. Also, I was pre diabeticc and had to use a CPAP nightly. My surgeon did a little something that most surgeons don't do. He put in a pig valve in between the new stomach and the intestines to help prevent the opening from stretching over time. that is why a lot of people regain their weight. i have not and have no problem maintaining. food is no longer a big concern for me. you do have to stop drinking alcohol and drinking carbonated beverages. i can't eat real spicy hot foods but I never cared for them anyway. I have lots of energy and look and feel better than I ever have. Also, my bloodwork is perfect. Before I had had high cholesterol and was pre diabetic. I was taking all kinds of meds and supliments to no avail. Not anymore . It was the best thing that I could have done for myself and I am sure that I added at least 10 years to my life. I struggled all my life with weight issues and wish I had been able to have this done about 40 years ago. -

I COULDN'T TAKE ASPARIN SO THEY PUT ME ON XERALTO FOR 30 DAYS. I REPORTED IT TO MY ORTHOPAEDIST AND THE FDA. CHECK THE ONLINE BLOGS ABOUT IT. I DIDN'T LOSE ANY HAIR THAT I NOTICED WHEN I HAD MY BYPASS. MY HAIR WAS ALWAYS THICK AND HEALTHY. I BEGAN TO LOOK LIKE SOMEONE WHO WAS UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY. CHECK WHAT KIND OF BLOOD THINNER YOU WERE ON. -

I AM 5 1/2 YEARS OUT AND HAVE NO REGRETS. THE Vitamins ARE EASY, JUST ORDER FROM unjury.COM THEY HAVE A Vitamin FOR 39.95 WHERE YOU TAKE ONE A DAY. I ALSO TAKE AN Iron EACH DAY AND A B12 ONCE A WEEK. MY BLOODWORK HAS BEEN PERFECT. YOU WILL DO JUST FINE. THE ONLY MEDS I TAKE ARE THYROID MEDICINE WHICH I ALWAYS HAVE HAD TO TAKE AND OMEPRAZOLE TO PREVENT ULCERS. IT IS THE BEST THING EVER FOR ME. I HAVE NO PROBLEM MAINTAINING MY WEIGHT AND AM HAPPIER THAN I HAVE EVER BEEN ! NOT TO MENTION HOW MUCH MORE ENERGY I HAVE.
