Turns out I was lucky. The reflux was a reaction to the Nexxium. Go figure! I was put on Prevacid but had a UC Flare that ended as soon as the Prevacid did. I was having a lot of spitting up and fullness. An upper GI showed that the band was too tight. A bit looser has helped.

I was told that I had reflux after my first upper GI before my banding. I had no problems before or after my banding in February 2008. I began Nexium 6 weeks ago for protection against my NSAID use. Since then I have had constant and painful reflux. As well as the Nexium, I have been popping Tums and Pepcid like candy. Today I skipped my Nexium and had NO reflux. Has anyone else had this happen?

I had my surgery done at University of Florida on Feb 18, 08 by Dr Ben-David. I am finally on "real" food. Is there anyone else out there from around Gainesville?

Hi Angie, I haven't flown since my banding on Feb 18, 2008, but have done a couple of 1000+ mile car trips. The seatbelt goes under the tummy so it shouldn't press any tender areas. One of my incisions was right on my waist so for the first month after surgery I couldn't wear pants with elastic. I found some black knit PJ bottoms with a drawstring waist that were sooo comfy. That's what I wear to travel along with t-shirts that are now way too big. How long will your flight be? You can't carry liquids onboard but you can carry an empty Water bottle and a baggie with some Protein powder. You can also carry some powdered chicken broth or slimfst powder to mis in your bottle or a cup of hot ware from the flight. Good luck, Diane

I have taken NCAIDS for about 15 years efore the banding. Although the surgeon hopes that the pain will subside as I lose weight, I am not hopeful. The week I spent without the meds pre-op was one of the worst in my life, to the point that my surgeon told me to start taking them again. I was banded in February 08 and have been taking the NSAIDS daily with NO problems. Of course I was warned to notify the Doc and stop taking the meds if I had any stomach pain. I ALWAYS take the meds with food and have been free of stomach problems for years and remain so past the banding.

Doctors' Personalities--what's best?
Mommy2 replied to jbflorida's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Where in Florida? I would go with Doc # 1. You will have a much better chance of success. My Doc (Ben-David at UF) had me sign a contract before he would even speak to me. He also expected me to attempt to lose up to 20 lbs before the surgery. 2 weeks on liquids then 3 on pureed foods after surgery. Pre-op it was liquids fo 2 days. I am happy because he expects me to work for my success. His experience is that sucessful lose comes with good follow-up. Good Luck -
MinPinMom, Right now I'm really close by. My daughter and family live in Spring. The great thing about having people in Texas (besides the fact that I love it here) is knowing what the weather will be in Florida 2 days later. I live in Gainesville and summer is starting with a vengance.

Hi, I was born and bred in Philadelphia. I really miss cheese steaks. I've lived in Florida for 30 years though so I'm almost a native. Our temp ranges can easily go from freezing to 80 in the same day. We've been in the 80's and 90's for the past week but a low of 35 is expected this week. For the football fans out there....GO GATORS!!!!!! and GO JAGS!!!!!

There is a new man in my life. At this time he is almost as important as my husband. He is Dr Ben-David at UF. His guidance has made the transition to life with the lapband much easier. I was banded on February 18, the day after my 40th anniversary. My husbands support has made this large change in my life comfortable. I'm Jewish and Passover is next week. I'm a bit nervous about handling the Seders and matzoh. Any help out there?

If you haven't had your surgery yet, I reccomend Dr Ben-David. He arrived at UF from Duke about 9 months ago. His Fellowship was in Bariatric surgery. He did my band in February, 2008. He is very strict and very supportive. -
