miss_smiles replied to mylighthouse's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congrats!!! I am also going for the revision sleeve to bypass. Is there a reason why like GERD, or insufficient weight loss? I am hearing more and more of these cases, and glad to know I am not the only one. -
Sleeve Failure - Revision in 2 weeks
miss_smiles replied to Cindyjo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I literally just posted this somewhere else, but I am also going from a sleeve revision to bypass next week! 5/30. The surgeon didn't take out enough of my stomach. I had the sleeve on March 28th, 2016. I went from 250 to 180, back up to 265, now 245 hoping to get to my goal of 150. The new surgeon said, after looking at my upper GI series that my stomach didn't even look like it had been sleeved. I was furious, and he also said it wasn't from stretching, simply enough was not taken out. I also suffer from acid reflux. Best of luck to you! If you want to message me and keep in touch, please do! I am on day 8 of the liquid diet. -
When/if you have the extra $$ I strongly suggest laser hair removal, if you hate hair like me. I have not shaved in months!!! Underarms, my pikachu and butt!

Does anyone regret getting the sleeve?
miss_smiles replied to Kadidy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I regret getting the sleeve back in March 2016, I should have got the bypass, Went from 250 to 180 back up to 265, now I am 245. Never reached my goal weight of 150. Edit: to add why, the surgeon didn't take out enough of my stomach. A year and a half later, I got an upper GI series and the tech and new surgeon both said it didn't even look like I had a sleeve. The new surgeon also said this was not due to stomach stretching, but original surgeon error. -
Late to the party but I am May 30th!

Surgery Scheduled! Revision Sleeve to Bypass
miss_smiles replied to shoregirl75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I went from about 230 to 180 in 6 months, do you think losing 50 pounds having a revision in that time period is possible? Or is weight loss really slower? -
How would you have reacted?

I saw one of my best friends of 8 years over the weekend. We haven't met up for awhile, so she didn't know I was going for the gastric bypass surgery next week. So when we went out to lunch I explained why i couldn't eat because on the liquid diet, etc. She didn't mean it maliciously, more of a compliment I assume but she said "No offense, you don't even look like you need the surgery. When I think of people getting weight loss surgery I think of the TV show my 600 pound life." Mind you, this is the same girl I spent 4 years of college with struggling with weight, AND was there when I had my first gastric Sleeve surgery 2 years ago (which was a failed surgery). AND she said the SAME thing again. I really think some people just don't understand. This girl has been normal weight her entire life. Doesn't understand the knee pain, comorbidities, and just goes by the looks aspect of it. I didn't get mad, I just brushed it off. To be honest, it really helps knowing people don't do it maliciously, they are probably comparing your body to others they have seen. This nurse 100% shouldn't have said anything, but maybe in her eyes it was a compliment. -
Last hurdle before surgery - quitting vaping.

I also switched to 0% nicotine. After the first week I didn't even notice. This past weekend I was curious to see if it really made a difference and i added a few drops of 3% to my tank. I actually did feel the difference but not in a good way. I felt lightheaded, and actually the next day was coughing a lot. Your best bet is 0% and after awhile you wont even want anything else. Its easier then it seems. I was a smoker on and off for 10 years, and now I cant even imagine going back. You can do it! Also, I know there are websites who have small sample packs that are cheap so you can try different flavors!! -
1st day of pre-op diet & I totally sucked at it!
miss_smiles replied to deardraya's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 7 out of 14. the first 3 days were extremely hard. Day 4 and 5 were slightly better. Once you get to Day 6, the hunger pains start going away. Now at Day 7 I barely feel hungry at all until like 2-3 pm. It is definitely dooable, you just need to focus and get past the beginning hurdle. The longer you go without food, the easier it becomes. When you start cheating your body starts to expect food again, which makes it worse because then its like starting from Day 1 again if that makes sense. Stay strong! -

May 30th Surgery Buddies? & 2 week liquid diet!
miss_smiles replied to miss_smiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Having had WLS once already, I can assure you there is nothing to be nervous about. You have been waiting countless days, weeks, months, years to be happy and healthy and YOU decided to make this change because you WANT it. Stay positive, and know you CAN do it, and it will be amazing. It will be hard at first, you will think to yourself immediately after coming out of surgery "why did I do this to myself" but after a few days, weeks, etc. the weight will start falling off, you will have more confidence, you will be able to move better, gain strength back and your mood will change. There is a time of depression and sadness, but after that ends, you will feel on top of the world!!! -

May 30th Surgery Buddies? & 2 week liquid diet!
miss_smiles replied to miss_smiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I already had the sleeve 2 years ago, it was a failed surgery, the doc didn't take out enough of my stomach. I initially lost over 50lbs and went down to 180, however after the initial 6 month loss, I started to get more hungry. I was maintaining my diet but eating more food since my stomach was not a normal sleeve. Therefore, I started gaining it all back. I went back to a different doctor a year and half later, who told me it wasn't done properly the first time. Some luck I have. So now he is doing a revision to the bypass to ensure the weight stays off. -
May 30th Surgery Buddies? & 2 week liquid diet!
miss_smiles replied to miss_smiles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm May 30th!!!! 10 days till the op for me! I'm on day 6 of liquid diet, and surprised at how much easier it gets. I usually go out to the bars on Friday and Saturday nights and this is the first time in a LONG TIME I have stayed in on the weekends, and to be honest the first time I have not drank on a weekend in who the hell knows how long. I went out for happy hour with coworkers after work briefly and it was STRANGE being in a bar and not drinking! I do not think that is the scene I want to be in post-op. Also, i went out to eat with friends and I had black coffee+protein shake, and unsweetened iced tea while they were eating fried chicken with fries, fried mac and cheese bites, and all this delicious looking food. I know I am doing this for a reason, but I sure as hell hope it gets easier. I had the sleeve before and 6 months post op if a slipped up it wouldn't be so bad, now that i'm getting the bypass I have the chance of dumping syndrome so i am even more scared of something going wrong. -

Ahhh congrats! So exciting. & thanks for the words of wisdom. I can have broth, but only after I finish my protein. I think I will get some today! Glad to know it gets better, I constantly feel lightheaded, but on a positive note I lost 3 pounds in 1 day how much did you lose already? -

Revision from Sleeve to Bypass
miss_smiles posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, I've been on here for awhile - and originally had gastric sleeve surgery in March of 2016. After my original surgeon made the sleeve too big (words from my current surgeon after having an upper GI study) and me gaining weight, and not loosing any - we both agreed I need a revision. DESPITE the failure of the sleeve being the surgeons fault, I need to still go through insurance hoops, the psych visit, 6 months weigh ins, nutritionist,. etc. So I have 2 questions: 1. Has anyone switched from a sleeve to a bypass, and what were your results? 2. Has anyone needed any type of revision and needed to go through the entire insurance process again? Thanks! -

Re-Sleeve or Sleeve to Bypass / DS
miss_smiles replied to miss_smiles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
UPDATE: Just got a second opinion and the first surgeon did it WRONG the first time. He did not remove enough of my stomach and essentially set me up for failure. For all of those who don't feel restriction or lose restriction after 6 months, get an upper GI series done and have someone other then your own surgeon look at your sleeve. I refused to blame myself anymore for my unsuccessful weight loss and eventual weight regain PLUS 20 MORE pounds, and getting this second opinion changed my life. They are fast tracking my case through insurance, I will not need the whole 6 months pre-op like 1st time around, and I FINALLY have a good Dr. in my corner. For all of you who have felt/feel the same GET A CHECK UP. I wasted nearly 2 years with an improper sleeve due to blaming myself thinking it was MY fault for not losing enough weight, and for being too embarrassed of being a failure. 260 Pounds and sleeve #2 next year to hopefully change my life the way it should have changed years ago. -
Re-Sleeve or Sleeve to Bypass / DS
miss_smiles posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery March 2016, and after 1.5 years I gained back the 50 pounds I lost and am now at my weight before surgery (230, 5 ft 4 around 40 BMI). My lowest was only 185 from 240. I believe the first surgery pouch wasn't small enough and I do have gastric re-flux occasionally. I started gaining after 6 months - a year. I will admit after 6 months, I was not exercising as much (went from cardio every day for an hour, to only 3x a week), and I was more lenient with food adding in some carbs whereas I was only eating protein and veggies ~1,000 calories daily to ~1,200-1,500. I have an appointment with a new doctor in a few weeks to go over my options, but I just want to know if anyone has been resleeved, or changed to a bypass or DS and if yes, did insurance cover the second procedure? (note: please do not comment about changing diet, a pouch reset and/or about habits and how a 2nd surgery won't help, only comment if you have knowledge of a resleeve or additional surgery, thanks). -

Re-Sleeve or Sleeve to Bypass / DS

Thank you for the post, Rick! I also was thinking about the DS as a first choice, but don't know if I would be eligible without speaking with the new surgeon. I will keep all this in mind!
