    Getting over the guilt

@@KaiserKid Once you have tried numerous times to lose weight without success - or lose a little only to gain it back along with a few more - you realize that it's a disease. How many skinny people do you know that drink those monster drinks - and remain skinny? Your body metabolizes sugar differently than others - you could eat the same as a skinny friend and probably still gain weight. Obese children grow up with skinny siblings - so it's not only about dietary restrictions / or lack thereof. If you have PCOS, it's even more difficult to lose weight. There's absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. You are taking control of your life and doing something about it now - which is incredible for someone your age! I wish I did something back then.
  2. You should keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. If you are weight training - it's possible to go up a few lbs. Are you taking measurements? And whoever said 2 lbs above goal is concerning was wrong - you could gain 2 lbs from not pooping one day. Being this obsessed with the scale is not healthy.

    4 months post op

@@kelwilliams You expected to lose more than 60 lbs in 4 months? That's a pretty high expectation. I would be thrilled with that weight loss. I would not worry about the 6 month "honeymoon" period. Continue to eat properly, get your fluids and Vitamins and do whatever exercise you can (even if just short walks or chair exercise) - you will continue to lose (most likely not as quickly - but you will lose).

    Getting over the guilt

@@KaiserKid Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't feel guilt about being fat. I wasn't a fat kid and I feel like I didn't do anything "wrong" to get fat. It sounds as though a good therapist could help you come to terms with your issues surrounding your weight. Obesity is a disease.

    Food funerals

@@beautiful_alarms I'm pre-op but this issue has been discussed alot. I wouldn't beat yourself up for having pizza/wings last night. In terms of food funerals, remember that there's not many foods that you won't be able to enjoy again someday. Going into surgery healthy and eating properly will help you post-op - you'll have been through the carb withdrawals, etc. already. When your craving something bad - distract yourself (go for a walk, read a book, write a list of all the things you want to do after weight loss, clean, go through your closets and get rid of clothes you won't wear - figure out what you have in terms of sizes, etc. It's natural to want a food funeral - and I wouldn't blame you to have one (I'm sure I'll be indulging in greasy pizza before surgery) - but just remember - you will eat most foods again (or a very good alternative - such as zucchini pizza). I'm excited for you - best of luck and keep us all posted!

Clothing Sizes: What do they even mean anymore?!?!?

I'd say apple on this chart.

I agree that you need to be doing this for yourself and not to "please" anyone else.

33 and been through this twice

@@Holly5683 Have you considered therapy with someone who specializes in bariatrics/eating disorders? It seems as though that may help. You mention you are stuck. What are you eating? Are you focusing on Protein? Getting enough fluids?

Clothing Sizes: What do they even mean anymore?!?!?

    I can't either. I don't think I'm any of them - I'm more like a circle.
  11. @@Maribelle I would not recommend gaining weight. They usually require a documented history of a BMI over 40 and would see that you just gained alot. I would take the chance they'll approve at this BMI and if not - appeal.

    Sick after surgery?

@@lutheranian Stress lowers your immunity. I swear by Airborne and Vitamin D. Talk to your Dr about what you can take - you don't want it turning into an infection. Feel better!

    After Surgery Helper

@M Ashley My dogs are both "elderly" and one is having mobility problems and sometimes needs my help to get up (with a harness). I'm just hoping I'm able to manage her without an issue. Although - they'll probably both sleep the entire day anyway.

    Psychological Evaluation

@@Heatgirl03 I had to complete several "screening questionnaires" before I saw the psychiatrist. I asked for help with dealing with emotional eating while I had my waiting period - just so I could have all the tools I could get for post-op.

probably for the better - as you know, I favor less moderation and more using the ignore button - "move along people, there's nothing to see here" :-P

    Psychological Evaluation

Just be honest. They're there to help make sure you're ready (which is a good thing). They'll ask about your medical, social and behavior health history. They will talk about your weight history, diet attempts, etc. Alot of questions to make sure you understand the surgery (before, during and after). You can also ask them questions if you have any. Many will give you some info on emotional eating, etc. It's not as bad as you might expect.

    After Surgery Helper

I'm told bending can be difficult so feeding the dogs might be a challenge that you'll need to plan for. Maybe just having someone standby if you need them you can call or to stop by once a day or something. I prefer to be by myself when I don't feel well. I'm planning to send my SO to work and see how I do.

  21. @@pinkpeanuts This is an emotional struggle for many of us - and that's all I was trying to caution you about. You should be eating the amount recommended by surgeon or nutritionist. You don't want to feel full. Many of those foods are sliders. Be careful.I just thought my body would signal more. I don't know. Same goes with Protein shakes. No feeling of fullness. I have stuck mainly to eggs and cheese and protein shakes. Bc I know those hold more nutritional value and more protein than pudding or potatoes. He didn't give me a specific ounce per meal nor a calorie goal. He did give me protein goals and Fluid goals, obviously. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Your body won't send full signals until its too late. Protein shakes, yogurt, pudding are all foods that go quickly through your sleeve so you can usually eat more. My plan says 1-2 Oz's every 3 hours (eat over 20 mins or less). I don't know if that's the same as yours. That's only for food - not liquids. I would just be concerned of overeating and getting sick. You can really hurt yourself this early out.
