@@janedoe92 Your surgeon will advise you as to what they recommend. I have a high BMI and my surgeon suggested Sleeve. I didn't want Bypass because of the malabsorption issues and higher chance of dumping (I also don't need that extra deterrent from eating sweets that others need). Good luck on your journey!

Possible gain during pre-op
KristenLe replied to SarahSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost a lb the first month, nothing the 2nd month and 2 lbs 3rd month. I wasn't required to lose anything though. They probably won't kick you out - but - you need to see if they can suggest a therapist to help you deal with emotional eating. You need to get it under control as much as possible pre-op. Good luck. -
I wonder if they'll have an eggnog one this Christmas time.

Clothing Sizes: What do they even mean anymore?!?!?
KristenLe replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in The Gals' Room
Resell them at a consignment place or eBay. If they fit good - it's worth the $. -
Sounds like you're doing everything right! I'm a similar starting weight and also have PCOS - I'll be happy with that loss at 6 months! Stay strong!

@@Cervidae and "@@Inner Surfer Girl" have lost more than 200lbs so far. There's many others as well. Do you have a therapist? I think it's beneficial to everyone to have a good therapist who has experience in Bariatric Surgery and eating disorders.

Hello Out There August 2016 Sleevers!
KristenLe replied to Sc7272's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
They fill your abdominal cavity with gas to expand your abdomen for an easier surgery. The gas often moves to your chest and shoulders. You have to move alot to get rid of it. It's not always bad. Take your pain meds and more often. -
Any others *exhausted* on the pre-op diet?
KristenLe replied to sleeveNC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may be dehydrated if your back hurts. That or you're getting a little too much protein. -
@@LowBMISleever Why not see how the date goes and if you think there's a connection - tell him you were embarrassed but you had sleeve surgery and he caught you off guard.

@@Moogle May I ask how you were able to grow your hair back with alopecia? Did you have special treatment? My Mom has alopecia (since she was in early 20s).

You think that's not alot of weight to lose in 8 weeks? What were your expectations?
-
Congrats! Take measurements so you can track those when you may be stalled weight wise. Best of luck.
-
@@LMSWNYC You're losing and that's great! Are you tracking food? How much protein are you getting? What are you eating on a normal day? So you gave in to a craving...get back up and dust yourself off! Don't let that derail you!

Grocery Stores
KristenLe replied to biggiesmalls250's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm allowed naturally occurring sugars like in milk, fruit, veggies, etc. Just not added sugars. I have no guidelines to follow other than protein and fluids for 6 weeks post-op. -
I am an olive addict. I will need to be careful.
-
Finally!!! Someone thankful for losing and not saying "I ONLY lost...". Congrats!!!!

If you need a strict liquid diet to be successful at losing - then you can certainly do that. If you don't lose the 10lbs they could postpone surgery so it's important to start some form of diet soon. Good luck.

3days post op from sleeve

Ketosis breath! ???? -
Don't compare yourself to others. This isn't a race. It's not typical to lose 50-60lbs at 8 weeks. Stick with your plan and you will lose. Be sure not to limit calories. Get all your Protein and fluids.

@@Unbridled It's one of the rules I haven't attempted yet (pre-op). I imagine it's going to be difficult for me too.

I will not spend a ridiculous amount of $ on a shake that has 16 gms protein and 7 gms of sugar. All anyone has to do is Google "Shakeology Reviews" and see for themselves.
-
I am not having surgery to have to drink meal replacement shakes to lose weight. Yes, for a short period post-op - you rely on protein shakes/drinks but the ultimate goal is to eat healthy "normal" food and lose weight and maintain that loss. I was sharing my opinion - same as you (although I did it without being rude). Drinking meal replacement shakes long-term is not sustainable - otherwise WLS would not be necessary. You can do your sales pitch all you want - as I said - "maybe it's just me" but I am not having surgery to have to continue to drink meal replacement shakes to lose weight.

As your body burns fat - it's releasing large amounts of hormones - wreaking havoc on your emotions. Stay strong - you'll get past this! Try something different for protein (Isopure, Atkins Lift Water). Add unflavored Protein powder to Power Ade Zero or a non caloric drink. You don't need to drink sweet Protein Shakes .

The mighty scale
KristenLe replied to highfunctioningfatman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your health care team NEEDS to know your weight. If you don't want it to define you - that's fine - but it's a necessity in medical care. -
Random Thought/Question
KristenLe replied to GetBack_095's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe 35% of adults (17% children) in America are considered "obese"! That's a very sad and scary statistic. Our portion sizes are ridiculous but it's what we know as "normal". Processed foods make up the majority of our diets. This is reflected in our prescribed food plans post WLS. My plan is balanced (50% Protein/ 50% Produce). They recommend no Pasta, bread or rice due to the expansion of these foods in the stomach (supposedly). I will be avoiding them because they (bread & pasta) have had a major role in my morbid obesity.
