  1. @@Nurse_Lenora I didn't suggest 1 lb of fat weighed more than 1 lb of muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat - so if you are comparing a body (as I was) - the same amount of mass in muscle weighs more than that of fat. What was once fat and now has turned into muscle from weight training will weigh more. I'm fairly certain the OP new what I meant and that I wasn't comparing a lb of fat to a lb of muscle. :-)

    Weight loss

I lost very little. Are you required to lose a certain amount? If so - have they suggested a diet?

My PCP "doesn't care about me"

@ Once you don't have a good relationship with your PCP - it's time to change! I wouldn't change before just in case there was an issue with your referral/approval.

How much does your plan say you can have at this stage? I think mine is 3-4 ozs - and that's eating within 20 minutes. It will depend on what you are eating - some things tend to move through your sleeve faster so you can eat more. As @@Christinamo7 said - it's important to measure.

    Would you do it again?

@@CNOEL3 You need to also remember that although you may have been able to lose weight on your own - there's only a 5% chance of being able to keep that weight off. I told myself for many years I could do it on my own - and unfortunately waited until I got up to 300lbs with several comorbidities (and 48 years old) before I realized I couldn't. You are early out - give yourself time to heal.

@@mariah100707 Do you have an appointment with a surgeon yet? The best person to help you determine coverage requirements would be the insurance coordinator at the practice. They will know the details of VT Medicaid requirements and the likelihood of getting approved.

    Upset stomach

@@biglady904 You can call your surgeon to put your mind at ease but I don't think it's anything to panic over. Are you on any meds for nausea or acid? Could you be constipated?

    August Bypass Buddies!

Stick with recommended portion sizes. Your stomach nerves were severed and have not healed yet so you will not get the normal signals of being full. You also don't want to eat until full - just satisfied. The foods you are eating tend to slide through your sleeve fast - therefore you're able to eat more without feeling restriction. A 1/4 cup is 2ozs which is what I'm allowed at one week post-op. If you think you're hungry - try drinking something instead and see if it helps. There's a lot of good resources for learning to deal with head hunger. Stay strong! http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm

    When did the "tired" stop?

@@GACaldwell It takes time to heal. Be sure you are getting enough fluids and Protein and taking Vitamins. The other thing to consider - if you are on blood pressure meds - they may need adjusting.

    help

I wouldn't do anything until you meet with the surgeon. Sometimes, plans require a documented history of a BMI over 40 (not just current BMI) so gaining weight may be counter-productive.
  15. I am allowed healthy carbs (fruit, veggies / produce) - so sweet potatoes would be allowed (just need to eat protein first). Pasta is a different story all together - as is bread and rice because they expand - and there is little to no nutritional value.

    Hungryyyyyyyy

Phew. So hot here! Pace yourself. I have felt dizzy when I stand up quickly but it's subsiding. I drink throughout the day. I just wait 30 min after I eat. I count my Protein shakes as fluids too. Water + lemon Powerade zero And diet lemonade from chickfila have been my favorite. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Be careful with the lemon water - lemon is a diuretic.

    help

It depends on your insurance. Call them and ask for the guidelines. Since you are right on the cusp of 40 BMI - I imagine you could appeal or have the surgeon do a peer to peer review to see if they'd cover.

    Nausea 30 days post-op

@@kaytopaz Try a different Protein shake. Maybe one of the non-milky ones (Isopure, Atkins Lift, etc). It's difficult at 30 days post-op to get enough protein without supplementing. Add protein powder to your drinks or food. I don't know if that's why you have nausea though. I am pre-op but had a GI bug 2 weeks ago - my stomach still isn't right. I have been nauseous daily. I started a new Vitamin and think that may be causing the problem. It may be too early for tuna or chicken - it can be very dry. Try adding mayo or plain yogurt. Try refried Beans with cheese, cottage cheese, etc. 2-3 bites of tuna or chicken is not unusual. You should be able to eat more if pureed.

    HELP!Gastroparesis before getting band

It sounds as though Gastric Sleeve may be a surgical option to treat gastroparesis. You may want to look into that. Good luck!
  23. @@Hiraeth You need to shop for appropriate post-op foods and have them available at all times. Noodles are not usually allowed on plans (as @ indicated) for months (if ever). There's alot you can be eating - cottage cheese, greek yogurt, sugar free pudding (add protein powder), hummus, ricotta bake, refried beans with cheese, pureed chili, etc. You can also supplement with protein shakes if needed to meet protein goals. No pasta, bread or rice. I don't think there's any need for an endoscopy unless you're having difficulties with appropriate foods or fluids. Time to shop!
