Really Regretting it.
KristenLe replied to SweetStarlight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember the reasons why you had surgery! Your hormones are all wonky right now - take some time to heal - both mentally and physically! Stay strong! There will be cheeseburgers in your life again (without the bun but still delicious!) Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -

United healthcare insurance approval process
KristenLe replied to anm1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@anm1979 It would not be that soon that you'd have to worry about it. I don't have United - but my insurance approved back in June and I'm not even scheduled for surgery yet. -
@@michee33 You can blend them to make them more like a puree. You could also add cottage cheese. Just take it slow because many find eggs to be an issue at first.

@@toby585 I didn't want the malabsorption that went along with the Bypass (or have my intestines re-routed) I am not diabetic (which Bypass is usually the suggested surgery) and am not a huge sweet eater (so dumping didn't seem like a benefit from my perspective). I basically overeat - so the restrictive benefit of the sleeve was all I really need. My surgeon actually was the one to suggest sleeve. I am still pre-op but feel that this is the best decision for me.

@@stsch06 Far more complications from obesity than surgery. You significantly reduce chance of complications if you follow your surgeon's pre-op and post-op instructions.

Umm, how do you tell your daughter she might need this?

@@Lulu_lulu Just be careful with protein bars - some of them have high carbs and are candy bars disguised as health food. @@snannapuss What are you eating/drinking at this stage? If you can't get anything down - please call your surgeon. You very well could be dehydrated and low in potassium, etc. - which is extremely dangerous! Take care!

@@Lifebydesign If you're having any Pasta, rice, sweets, bread, etc. - eliminate them completely. I can't eat any of those items and lose weight. Drink even more Water or non-caloric drinks than you already are. This is not easy but you can do it!!!

@@cindym44 It will completely depend - your body will lose in certain places faster than others - and shift. You may skip sizes all together. I wouldn't spend too much on clothes before you know what size you'll need. Good luck on your upcoming surgery!!!

Did I make the right choice?

@@MTWilliams On a positive note - I had a stomach flu a few weeks ago and quickly dropped 10 lbs! -
Did I make the right choice?
KristenLe replied to MTWilliams's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MTWilliams Based on you being sick less than a week before surgery (especially increasing your heart rate) - I would postpone surgery. It's disappointing but you're better off being as healthy as possible before surgery! -
@@Yaya B You can do it! Stick to your surgeon's pre-op diet recommendations - don't eat/drink anything not on plan - and if you are having problems - call them to discuss - do not "cheat" as you could potentially impact your surgery (someone had their surgery stopped because liver was too big to continue). Have a lot of the items you can eat/drink available to you at all times (including at work). Write a list of why you are doing this and what you want to do when you lose weight - and refer to it when you are craving something other than on your plan. Stay strong and good luck!!! I'm jealous of you having a surgery date already - I'm still waiting!

Letter of Support -BCBS Fep Question
KristenLe replied to _CRYSTALLITE_'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@_CRYSTALLITE_ I don't know if a PCP will attest to that - particularly alcohol (how would they know other than by your word). I've also never heard of that requirement before. Maybe to say you haven't had any drinking problems to their knowledge. The PCP records should document smoking history and be able to confirm that (or submit your records). -
I had to laugh at my support group last night. One woman talked about how she's going to start exercising right away so she doesn't have any lose skin (ok - that's not going to help much but...) and as we are all leaving the hospital - I look and she had valet parked her car instead of walking 50 feet to the parking lot! Good luck committing to exercise all the time! (And she was NOT incapable of walking).

@@AudreyDarling I'm the same way - lost a measly 3lbs during my 3 month supervised diet. My Nutritionist told me not to worry - I will lose with surgery. I hope she's right! ????

Am I making the wrong choice?
KristenLe replied to TiredOfMyself's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@TiredOfMyself You can be successful with the sleeve! Both surgeries are tools to help you restrict portions and calories. Both surgeries require hard work on your part and lifestyle changes. Bypass has the "benefit" of dumping (if you consider that a benefit - I don't) but sleeve patients can dump too. Bypass is more appropriate for patients with diabetes. Sleeve had the restriction but not the malabsorption (which is either a pro or con depending on how you look at it). I don't want my intestines re-routed or malabsorption so I'm getting sleeved. I fully plan to be successful! ???? And I have similar stats as you - 5'2" and 278. My Dr recommended sleeve. -
No - it curbs your hunger (for a while - not permanently) but cravings are mental - more head hunger. That's why it's so important to get your emotional eating issues addressed before surgery. You can't just remove temptation - it'll always be around you. I encourage therapy to deal with these issues - this journey is more mental/emotional than physical. The surgery is just a tool to help you eat less - you have to do the work and change your eating habits in order to be successful.

Woohoo!!! Congrats! You'll do great!
