  1. "only" 48 lbs in 3 months - wow - what were you expecting? You're on the same path of losing 100 lbs in 6 months as the person you're wondering how they have lost so much. I can't imagine the word "ONLY" being used when saying I've lost 48 lbs no matter how long it took! That's a great loss for 3 months - you should be dancing in the streets!
  2. @@LisaAdams50 Are you only 2 weeks post-op? If so - I'd be very cautious drinking alcohol. You are not able to eat at this stage (or very much anyway) and your stomach is still very much in the healing phase. As others said - I would not drink in public for the first time. We don't know how our stomachs will tolerate anything at 2 weeks out - I don't think risking getting sick is worth it. With that said - we're all adults and can make our own decisions. In my support group this week someone said "I can never have caffeine?" and the NUT's response was "you can do what you want, you're an adult - but caffeine is not recommended".
  3. My packet clearly says NO ALCOHOL FOR 6 MONTHS! My guess is that her surgeon telling her to wait 3 months was very clearly documented in the medical records. And this isn't about a malpractice issue - it's for your own safety and health. Good luck suing your surgeon for not putting it in bold writing in your packets - not that it would matter as you are lying in the hospital with a life threatening leak or bleeding. The decision to drink alcohol is on us - as adults. Same as the decision to eat off plan, smoke, drink soda, etc. Pound a few back a month post op - good for you - but if something happens - do not blame your surgeon or anyone else for that matter!

    Thoughts?

@@Taylor C Be sure to get plenty of fluids (dehydration can make you fatigued). Also - if you are on blood pressure medicine - it may need adjusting (your blood pressure may be too low). I would call your Dr to ask what they think as well.
  5. This is incredibly mean of your parents. :-( I thought my mother buying me clothes that were too small was cruel (and I think she thought they'd fit) - but this tops it! I congratulate you on taking steps to improve your health!!!
  6. @@jody 69 Your friends and family are probably scared - of both the surgery and the changes that come after. Don't let them talk you out of this - this is something you are doing for yourself! Follow your surgeon's instructions - even if you can't drink right after surgery - that is very temporary! Your health is more important than anything right now and if you don't have this surgery - it'll only get worse (hypertension, diabetes, joint pain, stroke, heart attack, etc.) Those are much scarier than surgery or feeling crappy for a few days post-op! Stay strong!!!

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery

I was having yogurt and fruit for Breakfast until my body decided it had enough yogurt and I couldn't gag down even a bite. I prefer food but I haven't had any ambition to make anything to bring to work with me so I grab a protein shake (Premier Protein - 30 gms protein/160 calories) to have in the morning. I ran out so today I brought no sugar added carnation breakfast which is pretty good (not as many gms of protein though). I eat protein/veggies for lunch and dinner.
  9. @@teedsg Many people have had WLS with PCOS and have been successful. I would speak to your Team about what one is best for you - especially being a vegetarian. I would think the malabsorption with Bypass would be more of a problem with a vegetarian - but I don't honestly know for sure. It will depend also on your eating habits and medical history. The best people to help you make this decision are your surgeon and nutritionist. Congrats on the steps you've taken to get healthy! PCOS sucks - I'm pre-op sleeve and hope that many of my PCOS symptoms resolve with surgery.

    Difficulties with liquids?

@@skinnyjeansatlast Sip constantly and as @@suzzzzz said - try different temps. Try teas (decaf, flavored, iced or hot), broth, Powerade zero, Vitamin Water zero, infused water - anything that you tolerate and just keep sipping throughout the day. Once the swelling goes down - it'll be easier. Be sure to take your PPI if prescribed. Someone also suggested crushed ice with crystal light over it like a snow cone or slushie which sounds really good). Take it slow - you'll get there!

  12. A young woman was murdered not far from me as she was jogging alone on a Saturday afternoon (daylight). This World can be a scary place - I'd much rather come across an animal (even a bear!) than some people these days!

    Shortness of breath

I'm sure you know that SOB can indicate a blood clot. I would suggest calling your surgeon right away or go to the ER - better safe than sorry. It could be other things as well but all need medical attention. Hope you are ok!
  14. You would have to increase calories until you didn't have a deficit. I've never been there but know it can be a balancing act! Congrats on your loss! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Post op diet

"@@Pink Ninja" a 12lb loss is not bad at all! I would definitely skip the Pasta, rice and bread though. At 3-4 weeks we are told to eat only about 2ozs per meal (volume not weight) and have 4-6 meals a day. We are also told to continue Protein shakes to get enough protein. I can't believe they said not to measure - that's very unusual! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App
