  1. I'm sorry to hear about your complications. In terms of hair loss, it's probably bad now because you aren't getting enough nutrients and vitamins or protein with being sick. If your problem is corrected - you may find the hair loss improves. Best of luck!

    Surgery 8/22

I would give your surgeon a call. Hopefully it's normal - but be safe and call.
  3. @@LMSWNYC It's very common. Relationships have many challenges during this journey. It sounds as though your husband has some insecurity. I encourage you to openly and honestly communicate with each other. There's some good info online about this. Unfortunately, divorce isn't uncommon after WLS.
  4. @@Dub Amazing!!! You must be incredibly proud of yourself!!!

    Feeling bummed.

@@gettingsleeved1 It's common to stall at that point but if you don't stay with your plan - the stall won't break. Slipping into bad habits is a dangerous road to travel. Be sure to meet your protein and water goals and stay with it even if you stall. Your body needs time to adjust.
  6. Get back on track and put it behind you! This is a tough journey - stay strong!
  7. I have some nice things - some never worn. I'll probably wait until next Spring and donate them. I bought a great pair of Seven jeans at salvation army that I look forward to fitting into them!

    Kidney disease

@@kimberb I don't know if it would be considered a comorbity but definitely talk to your surgeon about it. It may impact your pre-op and post-op diet. Is there an underlying cause of the kidney disease?

    BIRTH CONTROL POST!

Talk to your Dr about Mirena (IUD) but be sure to ask your surgeon before starting anything as it may cause concern for blood clots. You may need to wait until after surgery to start.
  10. I'm sure you are still retaining fluids. It will take some time. Just be sure to keep drinking.

    September 13th surgery!

@@inhiskingdom Talk to your Dr about flying - they may have you take blood thinners to reduce risk of clots. I'm only on clear liquids the day before surgery - no preop diet. :-)

Eating almost nothing, and not loosing weight

What are you eating? Not all calories are created equal. Eating too little can cause you not to lose as well. What are your macros?

    Nutritional counseling

It's a step the insurance puts in place - I think 6 months is too long (and insurance hopes you'll give up) but found some sessions helpful if you have a good Nutritionist. If they provide you with assistance and guidance as to how you will be eating post-op - it's worth it. I actually found therapy to help more though. Ask ahead of time what the outcome needs to be - some insurances have weight loss requirements, others want to see failure, and others just want you to go through the motions. It sounds like you will be going through specific topics which is good. Just ask questions and keep notes!

    2nd day out question

You will not feel restriction with liquids. It's great you are able to drink without issues.

    Why am I gaining weight?!?!

It's unlikely you gained that much weight in fat in 7 days. It's most likely water retention. Be sure you're getting enough non caloric drinks daily, avoid a lot of sodium, etc. I am pre-op but can gain or lose 5 lbs overnight from fluids. I weight 284 last night and 278 this morning. Hang in there!
  17. @@DogRescuer You will be fine - try not to worry! Keep drinking lots of liquids - stay away from sodium. Add some lemon to your water and drink lots of decaf tea. Fingers crossed for you!!!
  18. @@wlssuccess You look incredible!!! Congrats!

    Drinking issues

There's probably hormones involved in the anxiety. It's not unusual for alcohol to become an issue post WLS. Did you work with a therapist or Psych pre-op? I'd make an appointment to discuss both the anxiety and potential alcohol addiction. Keeping you in my prayers! Stay strong, Dave!

    Preop liquid

Can you have broth and sugar free popsicles? Try having them in the evenings. Distract yourselves - take a bath, read, color, clean closets (get rid of big clothes you won't be wearing again, see what you have or need), paint your nails, go for a walk, etc. You both can do this! Remember the goal! Stay strong!

    gas pain

You need an acid reducer (PPI). I would call your Dr and ask for one - it'll make you feel alot better. Also confirm that you aren't supposed to have protein shakes (or how you should be getting your protein).

    Upper GI

I had to fast from midnight until the test. I was surprised by what my stomach looked like too. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    How to start the process

Find out insurance requirements and information on Centers in your area. Most have informational sessions to attend first. They'll help with the details. I told my PCP but didn't need a referral. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling Hungry!

Get some pickle popsicles or just drink a little pickle juice.
  25. @@cindym44 The issue with the liver shrinking diet is no carbs - and it sounds as you are doing that. I doubt you'll have an issue at all. Many of us aren't even required to do a pre-op diet. No carbs should do the trick.
