8 Month's Post-Op Gastric Sleeve, due for gallbladder removal
KristenLe replied to Amelie2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Amelie2016 You may be the only person who cares about losing their gallbladder. :-) Mine almost killed me - and I had to have emergency surgery to remove it. I let it go way too far and wouldn't recommend keeping it if you already have stones. -
@@NewLifeFinny My PT told me the OTC Tens are just as good. I have DDD too and don't look forward to it worsening post-op. I've had a pinched nerve in my neck since July 1st that I am supposed to get a cortisone injection but waiting to talk to my Bariatric surgeon first.
-
@@anrobe Your insurance may not cover it if you don't meet medical necessity. Usually the Dr bases ordering on a few questions during your visit or on your history questionnaire. I don't think I'd have it done if the surgeon doesn't think there's reason.

@@Jane1979 I got the same! :-)

@@Nana1222 Be sure to tell them you are a smoker (or hopefully by then you "were" a smoker). They usually know anyway - so be sure to be honest. Depending on your insurance requirements and surgeon requirements - you may have to be routinely tested to ensure you remain nicotine free for a period of time. I was tested during my blood work/urine testing (3 months after my first consult) and I am not a smoker. Good luck with quitting - I know how difficult it is and wish you all the best!

Can not stop losing weight.... Help
KristenLe replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Scottyd1264 You need to eat 5-6 times a day. As said - set a timer, pack food/snacks. Eat healthy fats and complex carbs along with your protein. Supplement with a high protein low sugar shake. Your Dr is correct - you have to eat more - there's no other way. Good luck! -
Have you spoken directly with the RN? I would calmly explain the situation and see if she can move it along faster. I am not sure how realistic it is to think all the tests/visits could be ordered and completed in 30 days though. Because you are under the gun - it's more annoying and stressful.
-
@@Nana1222 I was tested at my initial blood work and will be again during pre-op testing. Some insurances require you to be nicotine free for 6 months - some surgeons require 3 or more.

Several others have voiced very similar fears. Just keep reminding yourself that this is going to help you to be healthy! It's not going to be easy but I truly believe it will all be worth it! Stay strong!

I would tell her you weren't going to continue being treated poorly and would find another Program. I would then file a complaint against her with the practice or hospital. It's not for her to research and decide. That's why we get psych clearance. Medicare will have your diagnostic history so she should submit the correct info and work to get it approved - not look for reasons why you shouldn't be approved. 5 days post op and I'm hungry!
KristenLe replied to turtle5569's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The omeprazol is a PPI. They sell protein broth you could try. It's Unjury. I'd call to see if you can drink protein shakes too. -
That is a bummer. Gallbladder symptoms can be upper abdominal pain (sometimes in the back too), vomiting, diarrhea, nausea. I only had pain and felt like I needed to poop but couldn't. I had mine removed under emergency circumstances. It's a very similar surgery (in terms of laprascopic abdominal surgery) as sleeve but not having sleeve yet - I can't say for sure how the recovery is different. Mine was supposed to be done outpatient but I needed to stay overnight. The pain before I had it removed was so intense that I don't even remember pain post-op.

5 days post op and I'm hungry!
KristenLe replied to turtle5569's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@turtle5569 Is there a reason why you're only having a 1/4 cup of broth? Does your plan only allow that Isopure? I would call about drinking something you like better. Make sure you take a PPI (stomach acid can mimic hunger pains). Also - have more broth, sugar free popsicles. Don't limit quantities of clear liquids. Stay with the plan! (Ignore the ridiculous comment about eating steak and Chinese food). In terms of the weight loss - you are still swollen and were pumped with fluids - it'll take time for the scale to move. -
Don't worry - it's great you are able to get in your water! It doesn't mean anything is wrong. Stay with the plan and it'll work for you! Congrats!

I need motivation,help,advice
KristenLe replied to kemstah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@kemstah Do you have a therapist?? I think that might be the best place to start. Find out why you keep sabotaging yourself. It will benefit you once you've had surgery too. You just have to do it (I know easier said than done)! Write a list of all the things you want to do when you lose weight - all the positive outcomes of WLS - and anytime you feel like cheating - read that list and remind yourself why you need to stick with it. Find other things to bring you comfort than food. Read a trashy novel, learn how to paint, go for a walk, paint your nails, etc. You are strong enough to get through the liquid diet and lose the necessary weight - you just have to believe that!!! -
@@sc101071 I didn't refer to you in my post and you weren't the person who called anyone a smug asshole (that was someone else new). If you have read any of my posts in the past - you would know that I've provided educated guidance (much of what I've learned from successful people on this forum who unfortunately no longer post because of this kind of crap) and I don't pretend to offer any post-op experiences. And by the way - who's doing the bullying now - what does my being pre-op have anything to do with this discussion at all??

How much should I be able to eat
KristenLe replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you have a real answer or just critical comments about other forum members?? -
Just holy S**T!!! This is comical at this point!!! You want opinions from people who have been there and have experience but when they provide it you lash out at them and call them BULLIES or smug A$$holes! Seriously??? Why the hell are you asking questions if you don't want REAL responses??!!! If you want to be coddled - this is not the place for you. I don't want someone to tell me it's okay to eat a taco when it could actually kill me (and I'm not being dramatic). I want those who have been successful to tell me how they were successful and what I might be doing wrong - if I take that advice that's on me - but there's absolutely no excuse to be ignorant or rude to those offering their opinion (and yes - MOST everything on here is someone's opinion). It's often not even the OP that causes the conflicts and is accusing others of bullying - it's someone who has no involvement in the discussion at all - and often has nothing to offer other than to whine on behalf of the OP. And - I'm so sick of this bullying term being thrown around - none of this can be considered bullying.

How much should I be able to eat
KristenLe replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to say - if getting in your protein is a constant struggle - eating a banana instead of a protein-rich food was probably not a good choice. If you are waiting for the hunger sensation to go away before stopping eating - you will end up eating far too much and possibly cause complications. If you don't care about that - then I don't understand why you posted a question in the first place. You were the person who got incredibly rude with people and are acting as you are the know-it-all. If you only ate 4 tbs and that's what your NUT suggested - then why did you think it was too much?? Why did you ask the question in the first place - if you already knew the answer?!! -
@@Gordita81 Exactly this time next week! I am hoping that the surgery is scheduled soon after. I'm very anxious and worried he's going to say November and I may just start to cry. I have no idea how far out they book.

When you trust your surgeon but you're mad at him too.
KristenLe replied to ALittleMe0914's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ALittleMe0914 Surgeon's operate on people who are under anesthesia for a reason - they usually have a shitty bedside manner and often have a God-complex. That's okay - you don't need them for their personality - but for their surgical skills. If you didn't already know - this test would indicate you have a higher risk of developing clots - which is why he'll put you on blood thinners. I would be sure your PCP gets your blood work and schedule an appointment with them soon to follow-up. -
Oh no - that'll suck big time if that's the case with me too! I use it in just about everything - including my Blood Mary's!
