Center of excellence?
KristenLe replied to shelbys mom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
They have to go thru an accreditation process. There are standards that they need to prove they meet. From someone who has been through some of these types of accreditation - they can bullshit it all unless they get a review. -
@@shayshay85 I am getting the sleeve. If I were in your position - I'd do RNY. I believe you will need the malabsorption part of RNY. Good luck.

All I can see are $$$ ...how much is that going to cost?

Bananas are NOT a low carb food
KristenLe replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Food and Nutrition
I agree it's probably not the best choice of fruits but I often need a quick potassium rich food and they're usually my go-to. Of course that's pre-op - not sure if I'll have them post-op. Eating an entire banana at 2 weeks post-op will not be happening. -
Oh I want a Bernedoodle too! Lol
-
It should! They're wrong in denying it in the 1st place.

7 days post op vgs
KristenLe replied to onewayoranother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much are you drinking? You just had major surgery - it'll take time. Be sure to stay hydrated! -
@@LisaMergs That picture is of Marlee - she's an Old English Sheepdog - also 11 years old and nearly 100 lbs. I have another dog - a smaller version of the sheepdog - she's a Bearded Collie (14 years old) and HAD tons of hair until last month when I had to have her shaved because she was so matted from the humidity and heat we've been having. Bennydoodle is great!! So is Sir Shitsalot but I go for bigger dogs myself. :-)

Body caught up

Everyone is different in terms of what they can/can't tolerate. What kind of canned processed foods are you trying? -
I have one more Requirement left. ????????
KristenLe replied to Tanette's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! I strongly recommend therapy with a person who specializes in bariatrics. You will need to get your eating issues under control - this journey is as much mental as it is physical. WLS is a tool but we still need to do the work. Good luck with everything! -
Omg - love your dog! I have 2 furballs too! Skunks bad here last few days and I worry about same thing! I have no sleep issues though - I can't drag my ass out of bed after 9-10 hrs! ????

Soooooo I have a surgical date...
KristenLe replied to courtknee_luv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@courtknee_luv Sometimes they give you a surgery date for a holding place so they can submit the paperwork (most authorization requests have to include a surgery date). I wouldn't go by what the coworker said - it sounds as though she's not telling you the entire story (maybe she didn't lose enough pre-op or gained during her supervised weight loss period). I wouldn't worry too much - hopefully there's a quick turnaround on your approval. Once you know the surgeon's office has submitted the request - wait a few days to call Aetna for a status. Don't hesitate to check up on it with both Aetna and the surgeon's office (confirm that they submitted it). Good luck! -
Gastric Sleeve vs. Gastric Bypass?
KristenLe replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@chuswysly I believe the overall loss is very similar (like at the end of 2 years) - but Bypass patients lose that within fewer months than Sleeve patients tend to. -
@@jenmcd623 Just be sure to get it someplace that you don't expect to lose more weight from - or it may look wonky after more weight loss.

Can I have bread and if not why?
KristenLe replied to kcirym2vp@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Am I the only person who doesn't understand the purpose of this post?? It's a response to an old thread with somebody asking this question?? I guess I don't get why a new post was created by the OP and unclear of the message. Oh well - I'll move on... -

Hospital stay: what should I take with me?
KristenLe replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It's rare that you'd have to be taken back into surgery. The gown is helpful though because of the IVs, monitors, etc. - they snap so you can change them without removing your IV. A nightgown isn't going to take up too much space so bring it in case you feel like changing. -
Hair Loss and Hair Extensions
KristenLe replied to BJames42613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@BJames42613 I would assume that extensions will cause more damage. I would look into a different option. If you don't like the topper as @@Bufflehead suggested - maybe a new cute cut would help. Do others notice it as much as you do?? -
Yes @@bellabeans that's exactly why. Be sure to stick with recommended portion sizes for food though and not eat until full.
-
@@Witchyeyes1014 Has your surgeon attempted to do a peer-to-peer review to get it overturned? This doesn't sound right at all and I would definitely not accept this. You shouldn't even NEED a BMI over 40 with those co-morbidities! This makes no sense and I would fight them on this - do you have your plan benefits that indicate when it's covered?
-
@@mbnurse I know many have said the last place they lose the weight is in their stomachs - so you'll get there!!!
