    For the ladies

I had to come off birth control pills pre-op. Not looking forward to the PMS and miserable periods to come.
  2. You probably shouldn't do the fasting until you are close to goal. We can only eat small amounts and it's too important to get enough Protein every day. My tip (even though I'm pre-op) is to stick with your post-op plan!

    3month out calories

@@Jesm1029 It certainly doesn't seem like you are eating too much - it may be the other way around and you're eating too little. You need at least 60-80 gms Protein - if not more because you're working out 5 days a week and absolutely more than 64 ozs of non-caloric drinks (I'd shoot for a lot more if you are exercising - you'll end up dehydrated and retain fluids).

    Pretty surgery diet

You just have to be careful to know the ingredients of the soup. Some are loaded with hidden carbs.

    Pretty surgery diet

I'm only allowed broth (no soups). Yours sounds very good and I'm jealous!!! LOL

    Pre opt diet

@@Catcarter Your surgeon must be confident you will get authorization if they've already scheduled surgery. Ask your NUT if you need to start Vitamins now or if you can wait until post-op. That way - you can order them after you are sure you're approved (and not wasting money). I wouldn't order a lot of them either - that way you won't waste $ if you don't tolerate them. Good luck!!! Fingers crossed your approval comes soon! Don't hesitate to call the insurance company for a status!

    Liquid Diet

@@Serenity141 Most of the time the goal is not necessarily weight loss - it's to shrink your liver to make surgery safer. Each patient (even with the same surgeon) can have different pre-op requirements (lose 10%, 2 week liquid diet, 4 weeks high Protein diet, etc.) I think weight loss during this also varies - depending on many factors - how much Water weight do you have to lose (were you previously dieting and lost that already), how much weight we have to lose (someone 400 lbs is going to lose more than someone 200 lbs). I'm going into my pre-op diet (2 weeks protein shakes) without any weight loss expectations - I just care about my liver shrinking and my surgery being safe! I'll be thrilled with any weight loss.

    Scared of a denial

@@shaylady08 What is your diagnosis? The only one who can tell you whether surgery is possible will be the surgeon. They most likely will do testing to determine any problems/issues - and many can be resolved before surgery or corrected with surgery (depending on the issue).

    3month out calories

@@Jesm1029 I wasn't given a calorie restriction. Does your 800 calories include your Protein drinks? How much protein and fluids are you getting? My plan suggests eating 5-6 small meals/snacks a day (3 hours in between). Are you eating protein or are other foods making up those calories? Eating too few calories can be a problem as well. You don't want to ruin your metabolism or go into starvation mode.

    Pre opt diet

@@Catcarter I'm supposed to start Vitamins post-op (although I already take Vitamin D). Nothing was mentioned about starting them pre-op. Are you waiting for insurance approval on the surgery - or for the vitamins?
  11. @@luzR I use pureed veggies (onions, celery, carrots) and saute them with spices (garlic, onion powder, salt, pepper, paprika) to start my soup broth when making soup normally. I'm going to do that and then add store bought broth to make a broth for pre-op and post-op. Mine doesn't have to be low sodium. You can definitely make your own broth. Low sodium store bought broth is horrific!

I need advice about my ex-girlfriend.

@@Hiraeth You really don't know what her TRUTH is. I read a book this week that I just thought of when someone mentioned catfishing (I had never heard the term before this book). Anyway - this person had an online relationship with someone and was expected to marry him (even though they never met in person). They found out that the person (as she knew him) didn't really exist and she was lied to for years. It was only a fictional book - but the person who was "catfishing" her was a woman who hid the fact she was a lesbian from the world and hid behind a fake online persona as a man. Please stop feeling sorry for this person - this is a very unhealthy relationship for you - and you need to realize that you deserve better! You are very young - be happy and go out and spend time with friends and have fun.

    2 weeks pre op

@@Tiffanyw What are you allowed on your diet? I'm only able to drink Protein shakes (Bariatric Fusion) and 3 Snacks of broth, sf Jello, sf popsicles or watermelon. I start the diet on 10/4 - and I'm not looking forward to it! LOL

    Wheelchair

@@rainbowsend96 I don't see why you can't be successful. I believe exercise is important but not critical to weight loss with the sleeve. You can look into chair exercises though - just to get your heart rate up. I would talk to your surgeon though - blood clots are a real concern if you're not able to move / walk. They may have to make accommodations for you with perspective to that (as well as the gas after surgery). Best of luck!!!

    Weight gain

@@specialkiddomom You most likely gained Water weight. It could be constipation, too much sodium, not enough fluids, etc. Follow the program - track everything you are eating and stay within the guidelines. Don't worry about a stall now and again - your body needs time to adjust. You've done great so far - keep it up!

    Post-Op, days in hospital

@@joei0005 This is standard hospitalization for me. They said that unless you are doing absolutely perfect - you will be staying 2 days (2 nights). It sounds as though you're doing better than some with fluids! Hang in there!

Let's hear it for the girls

@@proudgrammy Best wishes for a successful surgery and beautiful girls as the outcome!!! My friend went through reconstructive surgery as well - and also developed a few complications along the way (required additional surgeries) but in the long run - she's got great tatas!! Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing!!!

    Weight gain at week 4

I was told not to even count calories at that point. Protein and non caloric Fluid goals was all I was given. If you are gaining 8lbs - it'd seem either you aren't getting enough fluids, you are constipated, you're getting your period, or you are getting a lot of sodium.

    Reassurance, thoughts?

I would not drink Ensure either. There are so many different GOOD options. I like Premier but I'm required to drink Bariatric Fusion for my pre-op diet. Slimfast, Ensure, Boost - typically aren't good for Bariatric patients.
  23. KristenLe

    Shakes without food

Your body will not shutdown. Depending on your pre-op diet - you will most likely still be getting more than enough calories. Our bodies can go quite a while without food. You may feel lousy for a few days and fatigued but many have gone through this before us and survived. The purpose of the diet is to rid your liver of some fat - so that surgery is safer.

1 week out. Not dealing so well.

@@Adellk0405 Your hormones are playing a part in how you are feeling! Just keep reminding yourself of the goal! Try some sugar free popsicles for some crunch. Get some shaved or crushed ice and add crystal light - eat it like a frozen treat! Stay strong - this is only temporary! Look up the book The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life after Bariatric Surgery. I got alot of good info from that!
  25. Have a great time! Always wanted to go! Are you pre-op or post-op? Pre-op - just focus on protein and veggies - don't worry too much about 3 ozs only. Keep up with your fluids (not including beer and Irish whiskey! ????). I'm sure you'll be doing alot of walking. If you're post-op - maybe others who live there or have visited after WLS can give you tips on what to eat.
