    Weight gain post surgery. Help!

@@lauren66 It's very common to stall at this point. Your body is adjusting. Stay off the scale! You will notice clothes loosening even when the scale might not show a loss. Weight can fluctuate - you could be retaining water, getting your period, constipated. I would say you should increase protein and fluids though. The minimum is usually 60 gms protein and at least 64 ozs fluids. Hang in there!

    Pre-Op Worries About Post-Op

@@ineffably_yb Walking...most of the pain associated with surgery is from the gas they use to expand your abdomen during the operation. Moving around and walking is the best to get rid of that. Some people have very little pain so don't worry about it too much. You will probably be sore - some people sleep upright in a recliner for a while post-op. Just take it easy, take your pain meds as prescribed (don't miss a dose even if you think you feel better - it's difficult to get caught back up once you're in pain). Good luck - I'm a few weeks behind you and can't wait for it to be done!
  4. @@jurisjitsu I would schedule another appointment with your surgeon and insist on additional testing to find out what might be wrong. Have you tried Protein drinks (clear) like Isopure? You need some sort of protein. Instead of mashed potatoes, have you tried any mushy foods with protein (hummus, cottage cheese, yogurt, etc.).

Sleeved 6/29/16 and Im only 45lbs down

@@keyyzzVSG36 "only" 45 lbs in less than 3 months?? That's a great loss! Stalls are normal - your body is adjusting - it doesn't mean you're doing something wrong or that the sleeve isn't working. If I lost 45 lbs in that time period - I'd be dancing in the streets! If you are meeting your Protein and Water goals - just keep doing it! The weight will continue to come off. How much protein are you getting?? Are you drinking at least 64ozs of non-caloric liquids? Be positive - not bummed! You're doing great! And - remove the word "ONLY" from your vocabulary! :-)
  6. @@Havasumoma I bought some 4 oz mason jars to make some soup for post-op but changed my mind. I still have time but I thought that I'd rather make them fresh and it will give me something to do post-op (if I'm well enough). I am going to make my own broth for my pre-op and post-op diets though and my own popsicles for post-op. :-)

Is it normal- days pot op

@@cheneisew Try different temps of liquids - some are easier to tolerate than others. Be sure to take very small sips. Of course, a call to your surgeon wouldn't hurt either!

So Sick of the Liquid Diet

I was told not to count calories at that stage. If you're allowed Protein shakes - that's really the only calories you'd be getting. Are you getting any protein?Yes, 1 shake a day at least, it's about 33g protein and 200 calories. There's no way I could get in 4 of those to meet my 80-100 protein goal. Keep trying and do the best you can! Protein is critical to healing and weight loss! Just keep sipping! You will feel so much better when you're able to meet protein and Fluid goals!!! Hang in there @@rolosmom7 !

  10. @@sherie1967 Keep your eye on the prize!!! They could definitely delay surgery if you gained weight - so get back on track! High Protein - low carb - lots of water! Not knowing when you have surgery scheduled is very difficult - I understand what you're dealing with. Try and lose as much of the 8 lbs as you can. You can do this!!!

    Gas and protein drinks

I take in all mynother liquids fine. Water, gatorade, Vitamin water, broth.. its jist the premier Protein. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App It could be lactose intolerance as mentioned above. Try a lactose free shake or clear Protein Drink.
  14. Did you go to a sleep clinic? I would ask the sleep doctor to reach out to your surgeon to discuss. They'd be more apt to listen to a sleep specialist than a dentist (no offense to Dentists).
  15. @@rolosmom7 Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. Are you taking anything for the nausea? Are you on a PPI for stomach acid? Try drinking fluids at different temps - some people can tolerate warm tea or hot broth or even iced cold Water easier. See what works best for you. You'll probably feel better once you can get in enough fluids. Dehydration can cause nausea as well. I would call your surgeon back again and ask to speak to the nurse about being able to have apple sauce with your pills. It's not acceptable that no one is calling you back. Hope you feel better soon!

    September 2016 Post VSG Updates

@@turtle5569 Stay off the scale for now! Weight fluctuates - your body needs time to adjust to all that's going on. Be sure to meet your Protein and Fluid goals. I am a gummie Vitamin person myself but will be switching post-op (too many carbs/sugars). It's right in time for the 3 week stall - so your Vitamins may not have anything to do with it. You've done excellent so far - keep it up!

    Having sleeve gastrectomy next month

@@Butterflywarrior Sounds like you are doing well with the preparation. As you've probably read - it's as much mental as physical. I'm pre-op so time will tell but I found therapy for emotional eating (more mindless/boredom eating) very helpful. I also started eating how I will need to post-op - high protein/low carb, mindful eating, eating slow, small bites, etc. This book was good to understand some of the emotional aspects of live after surgery. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0054RXXS0/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Best of luck on your journey!!!
  20. You aren't stretching your sleeve. Try to slow down - but liquids go through your sleeve pretty fast and it's unlikely to cause any problems. I would talk to your surgeon to be safe.

    Frustrated beyond belief!

That's far too few of both - you need to increase that drastically in order to heal and lose weight. It's probably the stomach acid that makes you feel starving. Increase fluids and protein - you'll see the scale move in no time!

    Frustrated beyond belief!

@@myfatisnotaflaw The 3 lbs is from your period, Water retention and possibly constipation. I am pre-op but had to come of my bc pills for surgery. I got my period and gained 7 lbs in 2 days (7 fricken pounds!!!). I am already down 5 of those pounds. Don't be discouraged. You lost 14 lbs in a week - that's incredible. Your body needs to adjust. Be sure you are getting in all of your Protein and water, don't exercise too much until cleared (you don't want a hernia). Stay off the scale for now!!! You've got this - stay strong and positive!!!

    Cheated on Pre Op Diet

OP- you are not the only one who has cheated and so while not trying to beat you up- you rightfully should be concerned that you may not ready. This isn't to say that perfection is required but it is to say that there are countless people who have this surgery without being equipped with the tools to handle challenges. If a week or two pre-op diet can't be adhered to, what about a lifelong requirement to measure your food, eat Protein first, etc. You may or may not be ready but if you have doubts, then please resolve them before doing something irreversible.Well the thing is, now I am starving. After surgery it will be different. Also, after surgery I was told to have a "treat" every few weeks. For instance, Pasta, etc. things will be different after surgery than they are now. Right now I have a huge stomach and I am use to eating a lot.Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Sigh. They just reduce the size of your stomach. It doesn't reduce your desire to eat crap still. It isn't magic. You still have to actually use a little will power to make it work. You have to exercise and change the way you eat forever. Not just eat, but change the way you even FEEL about eating in general. Yes, there will be times you're even hungry. If you use food comfort now and can't delay gratification, will you have the tools to deal with that post op? Please take all that into consideration and don't just assume surgery will magically change all your bad habits with food. People figure out ways to eat around these surgeries. Otherwise we wouldn't have a 42% rate of regain. As long as you completely understand that, you'll be fine. Okay. I am aware of what the surgery does, as I have been planning this surgery for a year. I will do what is right for me. I am willing to change and I want to change.... but I mean, you can't just stop wanting something because the doctor says so. If you were addicted to drugs and were told to just stop, could you? No.... it takes time, it takes support and I'm aware of this... but your "sighing" and pretty much telling me that since I cheated and ate chicken fingers and fries for dinner one night that I am not mentally capable of having a surgery is not why I am here. I am here for support. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App You indicated in your original post that you were scared that you weren't going to be able to handle post-op and food controlled your life. @@Babbs was explaining (politely) why it is important to get control before surgery as the mental aspects will not be resolved by surgery. If you came for support - you really should listen to what the successful posters have to say - not just look for validation that what you did is no big deal because others cheat as well. If you have been researching this surgery - I assume you've seen the difficulties many have post-op because food still controls them. "Cheating" on post-op could cause sign and life threatening complications. If your pre-op diet was low carb, high protein - even if you were starving - why didn't you just eat what was allowed on your diet. If it was simply hunger - yogurt would have sufficed. People are only trying to help you by being honest. This process is alot more mental than physical.
