@@kaciecase It's very common to gain right after surgery. You are swollen, pumped with fluids and the constipation are the reason. Just stick to the plan - meet your Protein and Water goals and you'll lose the weight. I wouldn't even get on the scale right now - it'll drive you crazy.

NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
KristenLe replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Heatgirl03 Zyban and Wellbuterin are both Bupropion and could be helpful. How long do you need to be nicotine free? Some plans require 6 months before they'll approve surgery. Most surgeons require at least 30 days (some even longer). I would definitely make an appointment with your PCP to get help with quitting. I don't think nicotine patches or gum will be recommended - as they will still show up as nicotine in your system. Good luck!!! I am not a smoker but know how very difficult it is! Think of the goal! -
@@HiHoSleever How much Protein are you getting??
-
@@megnun21 Often times you will be put on blood thinners post-op and it's typically injections into your stomach. They will teach you this either at your pre-op class, pre-admission testing or post-op instructions. You're not being stupid - a lot of people don't know.
-
@@northcountyr1 How big of a serving? That seems too high if you only have one serving.
-
@@TanishaP I'm the same date. Pre-Admission Testing usually consists of a chest xray, EKG, probably some bloodwork (if not already done) and a meeting with the Anesthesiologist. They may review your medications and provide instructions for you pre-op and the day of surgery.

September 2016 Post VSG Updates

@@veryblessed Congrats on your surgery! Sounds like you're doing well. Other than walking for the gas pain - you can try moving your arms a lot (scissor them as you walk or even just move them around while you're sitting) and a heating pad might help some. Good luck on your journey!!! -
Any on liquid diet wake up feeling nauseous?
KristenLe replied to Aaaaaa1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a little broth too. You may need the sodium. Maybe some Powerade Zero will help replenish some electrolytes. Hang in there!! -
Try drinking water with lemon or other natural diuretics. I believe massage therapy can help as well as compression stockings. Congrats on your impressive weight loss!!

This Process is taking too long!
KristenLe replied to nolady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@nolady Most of us have a few months or longer to go through the process. Take advantage of the time - learn how to control emotional eating, start eating how you will need to post-op, read as much info as you can to prepare yourself. This is major surgery with alot of emotional/mental implications - not something to rush into. Waiting sucks but if you use the time well - you will have a better chance at success. -

Medical clearance issue
KristenLe replied to ange1381's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@angie1381 Relax - it's not going to make things any better if you panic. If your Dr thought it was possible for you to have a heart attack - you can bet he'd have you admitted and getting tests immediately. If your surgery is delayed - just remember it's for your safety. Hope you make out fine. Stay strong and positive! -
Another NSV for me! Wearing a dress!
KristenLe replied to FayBee's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 48 as well and don't think that'll impact anything other than maybe my skin won't bounce back like a 20 year olds. There's alot of people older who are extremely successful - in fact - I bet it helps to be older in some aspects. -
@@Travelher That's a good positive attitude! Lol. I'm dreading the pre-op diet but it's only 2 weeks of my life.

Are you sure we can go this long without food?
KristenLe replied to even11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you ever watched Survivor? I could be on that damn island for a year without food and probably still be considered an overweight BMI! ????. You can live without food - but not water. -
Pre-op liquid diet: crashed!
KristenLe replied to katie09/21/2016's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Fat stores hormones so as you lose weight - you can often get a flood of hormones released. It can cause some moodiness and often an increased libido. Have fun! ????Does this generally happen within a certain predictable timeframe? CW 227 5'5" 61yrs I believe during the rapid weight loss period. I don't think it happens with everyone. -

@@Travelher Did you try blending them with ice? I have to do Bariatric Fusion shakes for my pre-op and I'm worried they're going to be horrible. My instructions recommend blending with ice. Maybe alter the taste some with sugar free flavoring? If you can't drink them - i would ask your surgeon if you can get an alternative shake.

I did the same thing a couple of days ago....told my first surgery fib! I was quite shocked because I am pretty open with people & I am not at all comfortable with lies. My surgery is on Wednesday, and up until this point I've been quite open and honest with people (I have a blog too!). People who I don't want to know I just don't talk about it with. The lie happened because I have neighbor who has a group of friends who are involved with a church and they are ALL constantly knocking on my door trying to get my involved in the church also (no means no, I mean it really means that where I'm from...) They are judgmental freaking passive aggressive stuck up people who only pester me out of ignorance (not because they are kind). They make horrible comments to me with a smile on their face. ANYWAY, long story short they had been harassing me relentlessly about doing some church related thing this week and because my no obviously means nothing to them in frustration I blurted out that I couldn't because I'm having surgery.... Well then came the relentless "why" questions & in a moment of weakness and because I have to live near this annoying person I lied and said it was for a hernia. I feel weak and pathetic. I don't believe for a second there is any shame in weightloss surgery - but I don't want to deal with prejudice from people who I know will think it's shameful. Arg! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App You should have told them "Sex Change"! I bet they wouldn't bother you again! ????????

Sleep Apnea co-morb, oral appliance treatment and surgery issues
KristenLe replied to Erissel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the issue is they don't know how to handle this in the hospital. We're required to bring our CPAP machines with us and they are most likely stumped as to what to do about someone having the appliance instead. -
You need to look at the sugar content. Some fruit smoothies bought at "health food" places have 80+ gms of sugar. The store bought ones are loaded too. On a Protein shake - be sure low sugars and high protein. Some of the muscle milk products are loaded with sugar. Just check labels.
