    So Sad

@@hudjess That's a bummer. I would talk to the insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office and see if they have any recommendations. I'd also make sure you get the requirements in writing. The best thing you can do for yourself is establish care with a Primary Care Provider and go for preventive/routine care so they document your weight but also weight loss attempts and discussions. I wouldn't just give up either.

@@hudjess Do you have any co-morbidities? Do you the insurance requirements in writing? Think back to see if you went to any other Drs during that time.

    Newbie!

@@Melsyboo Welcome! I'm a fellow New Englander (Rhode Island). I'm happy for you that you're taking this opportunity to improve your life before you end up with the comorbidities that go along with morbid obesity! Hopefully your sister will understand and support you! I originally said I wouldn't have WLS either - but this year has been nothing but medical problems for me and I knew I had to do something. I only wish I did it when I was much younger. Good luck on your journey!!! Look forward to seeing more posts from you! ~Kristen

    When does this get better

Try liquids at different temps - it might help. broth, tea, sf popsicles, crystal light, infused water - try different things and see what you can tolerate better. You need to stay hydrated or you'll end up back in the hospital!

Ack! Cheated on first day of pre-op diet!

@@QueenOfTheTamazons You probably need something with electrolytes or sodium. Try having some broth. What is your pre-op diet? I'm shakes only and some broth, sf popsicles, sf Jello. No food.

    List of Q's for surgeon?

I'd ask... How long will I be out of work (if you work) or how long will I be not allowed to do certain activities? Do they have a pre-op diet - if so - what is it? What are the tests they order before surgery? Do they have you take blood thinners (pre-op or post-op)? Good luck! Kristen
  17. @@QueenOfTheTamazons Have your husband put a pillow in the car for the ride home!!! I told my SO that he needs to go to work the days I'm in the hospital (except surgery day). He can come and visit but I'd rather him be home for the dogs. We're only 15 minutes or so from the hospital so that's a plus.

    Pre-op required type of Protein

This is only a requirement for pre-op for me. Post-op they gave us a list of preferred and said as long as under 5 gms sugar and 5 gms fat than go for it. I don't know if they worry that people will select high carb Protein shakes for pre-op. It's only a requirement for people with high BMIs - otherwise they don't have a pre-op diet requirement.

    Miralax or benefiber?

@@christinah If you go with benefiber - be sure to drink A LOT of Water (non-calorie fluids) or it could make things worse. My instructions say: Walk, Walk, Walk; Drink Plenty of Fluids; try baby food prunes; if that doesn't work try benefiber (start slow and only if drinking plenty of fluids); then try stool softener; then try 1/2 dose milk of magnesia. If nothing works - call surgeon before trying anything else.
  23. @@rolosmom7 It shouldn't have to be Water only. Any non-calorie liquid should count towards your water goals (including shakes).

    Pre-op required type of Protein

@@Frenchie1977 I'm required to use Bariatric fusion (don't have to purchase through my program though so I feel like it's not just about money). I would check the ingredients - make sure the Bariatric Advantage doesn't have something that Premier doesn't. Bariatric Fusion appears to be different nutrition-wise than Premier. It has more Fiber and Vitamins. I've only tried the strawberry so far (my pre-op diet doesn't start until 10/4) and it was pretty good (filling and easy to make in my shaker bottle). I thought about just drinking premier too - but decided not to take any chances and just "Suck it Up Buttercup".
