  1. @@Color83 I think it also depends on what you were doing in terms of dieting prior to the pre-op (how much Water weight did you have to lose, etc.). I start mine 10/4/16 - I have no expectations but would be thrilled for 10 lbs (in 2 weeks).

    New Here

@@Lori Orr It's unlikely that you will be able to get surgery in the States. You may want to look into going to Mexico to a reputable surgeon. It sounds as though you may have harmed your metabolism with excess dieting / exercise and your body is fighting to keep the weight now. Eating too little is just as bad as eating too much. There are a few low BMI people who have had surgery but I believe the majority of them had them outside of the US and self-paid. Good luck.

SLOW Loss (3-4 lbs per month)

@@Tminus Sounds like you're doing everything right. Try to change things up a bit - more Protein, different exercise but even if you don't lose faster - you're still losing and that's fantastic!!!

    Nicotine test

@@mr1121 It's not uncommon. I've already had one test and I suspect they'll do another at my pre-admission testing. They take this very seriously and may cancel surgery if you test positive.

@@Tminus What are your Protein and Water goals? How many calories are you eating?
  6. @@mollydeez Believe me - it's better this way - you don't have weeks to obsess about it! I have mostly everything I need for my pre-op diet (starts 10/4/16) and bought a few things for post-op (only the 1st week that I"ll be on Protein shakes & clear liquids). I ordered a few comfy front enclosure bras and I had already bought a food scale. I have a few different Protein Shakes but I am not sure what I'll like after so I didn't get too many. I'm going to make my own broth and freeze it. I have my pre-op teaching class next week and will see if they recommend anything else.

    Pre op appt weigh in?

@@lgivaudan I would assume they will weigh you at your pre-op appointment. I would suggest that you work on losing weight until the event and then if you do "indulge" it won't matter if you gain a few lbs (which will just be Water weight the next day). I wouldn't go on a bender - but I don't see anything wrong with enjoying the night.

    Concern about Eating Junk

@@NJ Mom In addition to seeing a nutritionist - I would suggest seeing a therapist who deals with emotional eating. I found that far more helpful than the nutritionist. I would also start cutting out some of these foods now. I'm still pre-op but had 6 sessions with a psychologist about mindless / emotional eating and feel that it's helped me and will continue to help post-op. You definitely will need to change your eating habits - including the grazing - as you can easily eat around your sleeve. The sleeve is just a tool - you need to do the work (and it's more mental than physical). I'm not a big sweet eater - but when I've wanted something (at night is usually my bad time) - I've had a sugar free popsicle or in the colder months a sugar free hot chocolate. Good luck!

@@yvette333 They usually have a lot of sugar - contact your nutritionist to see if it's allowed and if there are certain brands.
  13. @@yvette333 You need to be careful with coconut Water - it is often loaded with sugars.
  14. @@leebick Refried Beans with cheese (and sour cream) don't have to be pureed - they are the right consistency already. I would blend chili though. I refuse to puree meats too - and my plan suggests drinking Protein shakes during this time and not expecting to get protein from the purees. You could have hummus, blended/cream soups (no Pasta or rice though), cottage cheese, yogurt, egg salad, ricotta bake, mexican dip bake, buffalo chicken dip bake (use the canned chicken and blend it first),

    Nervous

@@campingdiva It's common to be nervous - but there really is very minimal risk of complications during surgery. Follow your pre-op instructions carefully and trust your anesthesiologist and surgeon to take care of you! Best of luck!
  16. @@nessy1988 There's medication that you will be prescribed to reduce nausea. It's also important to stay hydrated. If you have nausea after surgery - make sure to discuss it with your physician - they can change medication if it isn't working. I hope your friend has called their surgeon to discuss this. Extreme nausea can be a sign of a complication.
  17. Did he do these kind of things before or did he just start eating snack cakes, chips, etc.? If he's always done this but it's only bothering you now - I'd say it's your issue. If he's doing it only since surgery- then he's being a jerk. I know I'll be eating different from my SO for several weeks at least. I had surgery- he didn't and I don't expect him to change his eating habits because I am obese and needed WLS. If he were to try and sabotage me - it's going to get ugly.
  18. You may need to be put on a CPAP. Some surgeons/Anesthesiologist require 30 days on the CPAP before surgery but that may not be the case for you. I don't believe that AHI20 is bad (just mild sleep apnea). Call your surgeon's office and talk to the RN. If you do need a CPAP - get that moving right away.
  19. I'm also a mouth breather. I did better with the nasal mask rather than full mask. I am somewhat forced to breath out of my nose. I tried the full mask for a second at my titration appointment and felt like I was suffocating. It'll take some time to get used to it but I actually kind of like my CPAP now. I'll be happier to be off of it but I do sleep better now.
  20. Hi Rosey posey: Im 57, in the process of gastric bypass and just did the take home sleep study machine. Low and behold I have sleep apnea, AHI 20. Im feeli g a bit discouraged, and wondering what this means as far,as moving forward. Good luck to you, keep us posted. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App It will most likely mean you will have to go on a CPAP machine before surgery. Usually they require 30 days compliance first.

    Gallstones

I had mine removed years ago (haven't had WLS yet). It's similar in terms of the gas in your abdomen and incisions. I was done on an emergency basis so the pain before surgery was so horrific that I don't even remember pain after being an issue. I was out of work for 2-3 weeks I believe.

    Traveling after surgery

Talk to your surgeon's office about the need for surgery before end of year - maybe they'll schedule you before your approval. At least get on the books.

    Feeling regretful

I forgot to mention that you should be taking a PPI. It may be stomach acid mimicking hunger. Drinking plenty of fluids will help too. Go for a walk - the endorphins will fight the hormones and make you feel better emotionally.
