@@SAL421 Most people are on full liquids for at least the first week. Your plan indicates mostly liquids (milk, Water, Jello, broth, etc.) - equaling about 64 ozs. which is what I'm suggesting is most important.

    Potty number 2

@@h.brooks661989 What are you allowed on your diet? Be sure you are getting in plenty of fluids and don't get dehydrated. Also - protein shakes can sometimes constipate you - you may want to ask about taking a stool softener or benefiber.

    Post-op questions

@@SAL421 It's more important to be hydrated than get Protein right now. Protein first when eating - but 5 days post op that's not really an issue at this time. Dehydration is dangerous - you can live without food - you can't live without Water.
  5. @@Lori Orr Try and talk to your daughter about how important this is to you - and that you want her support. I am afraid that if you go ahead and do this behind her back you will permanently damage your relationship. Please reconsider doing this without her support.

    Facial hair *women only

I bought my own little wax kit at Sally's Beauty Supply - I do my chin, eyebrows and upper lip. My chin is the worst - I feel like the bearded lady in the circus. If it doesn't stop with weight loss - I'll be going for laser treatments.
  8. @@stephyyy2828 It's most likely from ketosis. It's usually temporary.
  9. @@CVanPelt I went to a psychologist to discuss emotional eating (not related to anything in particular) and found it extremely helpful so far (we'll see if it's helpful post-op). I encourage you to go to one as well.

    Post-op questions

Fluids are more important than protein right now - and at least 64 ozs of fluids. I wouldn't concentrate on 1/2 of that being just from water - I think decaf tea, crystal light, Powerade zero, etc. would be good as well.

    Facial hair *women only

@@natarshassleeve Unfortunately. It's really bad and I wax it (grows back in less than 2 weeks). How did they test you for PCOS? I'm hoping that the facial hair goes away with the weight.

    How long did it take?

@@hudjess It should not take that long to submit your medical records. I would call them back and explain that you have an appointment with a specialist and need your records ASAP - and tell them you will come and pick them up if need be. Most places have electronic records and it would take 10 minutes to print your information.

@@Yellowcj If you have a hiatal hernia - that will need to be repaired during surgery. I don't see any reason why they'd deny you - and I can't imagine your surgeon putting you through all pre-op testing and giving you a surgery date if they had any reason to think you may not be approved.

    Partners Jealousy

@@GACaldwell It's not uncommon to have some sort of jealousy and/or insecurity. It's not fair to you - you should be able to Celebrate your loss and he should be proud of you (and happy!). Surgery is by far not "EASY" - and it's hard to believe a partner doesn't realize that. I'm only on Day 2 of my pre-op diet and my SO already knows how difficult this is. Why don't you talk to him about eating similar to how you are eating (high Protein, low carb) and he'll probably lose weight right along with you. Talk to him - be honest about your feelings and how you really need his support and not snarky comments.

My program recommends Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies. I haven't looked at it but it's fairly reasonable in cost and might be worth it.
  18. @@Brianna13 There's a special forum - you might be able to find some information or people in there who can help. http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/427-pregnancy-with-gastric-sleeve-surgery/
  19. @@Brianna13 Weight loss can increase fertility. If you have issues such as PCOS which are causing fertility problems - those can often be resolved with weight loss surgery. You really need to be careful and not get pregnant until your Dr clears you to - it's too dangerous for you and the baby.

    Underage (17) and bariatric?

@@fumplins Congrats on taking this step to improve your health! There's a Pediatric Bariatric Center in my State (RI) and may be in your area as well. It will most likely take 6 months - but that's not a bad thing. You can use this time to prepare yourself for living post WLS. This is not a magic wand - either Bypass or Sleeve surgery is just a tool for you to restrict portion sizes - you still have to do a lot of work and eat healthy. This is as much mental as it is physical. I strongly encourage everyone (but especially someone your age) to get counseling to work on any eating issues (boredom eating, emotional eating, mindless eating, binge eating, etc.). Many Bariatric Programs will have someone onsite to work with you. You will also have to meet with a Nutritionist. Not all Programs or insurances require you to go to your PCP for a medically supervised diet - I went to the Nutritionist at my Program. She went over how I will need to eat post surgery - and prepared me for that. 6 months will go by fast - and it's worth the wait - you'll be better prepared for living after WLS. Best of luck on your journey!!! Here's some info on Adolescent Bariatric Surgery that may help.. http://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/adolescent-bariatric-surgery.html
