How long was your pre-op process?
KristenLe replied to SarahSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised weight loss plan. I was disappointed that I had to wait that long. I'm also hoping for a Sep/Oct date. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
Please discuss the right amount of Protein for you with your Dr or NUT. Too much protein can cause problems. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

Breakfast ideas and PCOS ladies
KristenLe replied to teedsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@teedsg ..You don't mention your age but I have PCOS and tried Metformin (and everything else) to lose weight in my late 20's and 30's. I am now 47, have high BP, thyroid disease, sleep apnea, multilevel disc degeneration, etc and weigh 289lbs. I wish I didn't wait so long to decide on surgery. Give the low carb diet and Metformin a try but don't wait too long if it's not helping (drastically). I feel like I blinked and weigh 100+ lbs more. Regardless of what you decide, lowering your carbs will be good for everyone! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
My NUT gave me a list of good Protein drinks. Be careful of the sugar content in some. Here's a few recommendations...MetRx Original Meal Replacement Bariatric fusion Meal Replacement (gave me a sample but haven't tried it yet) Nitro-Peak 50x Isopure Look for "Isolate" supplements. Avoid Casein Protein and Collagen Protein. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

Liquid diet day 2-STRUGGLING
KristenLe replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After reading alot of the threads on here...it is probably due to not getting enough fluids and Protein. It's important to follow your post op diet. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -

GP says to do Weight Watchers instead
KristenLe replied to careya123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You should go to a Bariatric Program that includes Nutritionist, Psych/Social Workers and a reputable surgeon. WLS isn't for everyone. If you have a BMI under 40 it's only recommended if you have comorbities. Go to an informational session and get more information to make the best decision for you. You should have the support of your PCP and if you don't have a good relationship with them - find another. My PCP encouraged surgery but I had already tried everything else including WW. She knew (better than I did) that I needed a tool to help me eat less and of course has always encouraged exercise. She knows my history and current health status and I will need her support. Are you walking enough? I've read that's the answer to gas pains. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
I was warned about this being a possible side effect on my 1st NUT appointment. With only being 3 weeks post-op - I wouldn't be eating anything like that anyway. Your body is telling you that you shouldn't be eating sugar! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

I just had my first nutritionist appt this week and asked about caffeine. She said no caffeine at all. It interferes with absorption of nutrients such as Calcium and Iron. It can also cause ulcers, dehydration and in some cases increase hunger. I'm going to avoid it as much as possible. I'd rather not take any chances especially with nutrient absorption - one of my fears of having the surgery is the hair loss. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

My surgeon suggested sleeve instead of band (my original choice). He said that 50-60% of band patients have to have secondary surgeries due to complications. He also said they take out more bands than they put in these days. They are a very reputable and have been doing bariatric surgery for over 20 years. I would get a second opinion. Why am I still hungry?
KristenLe replied to Renee1973's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I read on another thread that it could be "head hunger" and also to be sure to increase fluids and take something like Zantac. Good luck! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
You are close to my stats and I was also thinking around 145-150. I look forward to watching your progress! Good luck. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

Maybe your husband preferred you overweight and insecure so he had more control over you? I have just started on my journey but can't imagine going through it without the support of my significant other. I am sorry that you have to. Stay strong and positive! Thank you Monie, I am hear alot of people being on the prep diet for 10-14 days should I be concerned my Dr said one week for me? I am sure he knows what he is doing but I wonder why it varies so much between doctors.Thank you for the advice Sent from my Z812 using the BariatricPal App My surgeon doesn't require a pre-op diet unless you are over a certain weight. The purpose is to shrink the liver for surgery. I was surprised but thankful not to have to do one. Good luck! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

You can still go and sit and talk at dinner...you'll just be eating very little. I've thought about this issue alot because food is often involved with whatever my boyfriend and I do on the weekends. I am just in the beginning stages of my journey but have already started thinking of other activities we can do and what I could eat when we do go out for dinner. Be sure to communicate with your friend and talk about how you both feel. Good luck. Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App

I'm a newbie....real excited but lots of questions
KristenLe replied to hmbc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my first nutritionist appt yesterday and found them very helpful. Ask questions if you don't feel like you're getting the information you need. I already have more questions that I'll be asking next month. Good luck!
