  1. @@joyfulinga I am going to a psychologist to discuss emotional eating before I have surgery. I'm also reading The Emotional First Aid Kit. Hang in there and stay strong!

    Thyroid

I don't know why they would deny you. What is your BMI?

    Weird or No?

I'm just a month into the process unfortunately. I'm ready and want it done!

    Weird or No?

I was not told I had to lose weight during the 6 months either. I am eating healthier so hopefully I will but I don't think it's a requirement.
  5. How are you doing today?

    Big bosomed friends

Lol ... That's not something I'll be looking forward to as a NSV.

    Carbs post op

I think those are "good" carbs at least. I just spent 15 mins looking at yogurt to find any with less sugar (that wasn't plain).

    Carbs post op

I don't know how many carbs we should have at that point. The broth I have has 0 fat and 0 sugars. It's not low sodium - maybe that has more carbs?

    Carbs post op

Alot of the "fat free" and supposedly healthy foods have added sugars. I have been reading labels and have put alot back on the shelves because I'm surprised at the amount of sugar. I was just looking at a protein drink and it had 23gms of sugar. You don't want anything with added sugar. My NUT gave me a handout that says be sure Total Fat and Sugars are less than 5 gms per serving.
  10. I don't believe that is true about Ghrelin "hunger hormone". Your body still produces Ghrelin - just in lower quantities. Be sure to take your vitamins, drink water and have enough protein. This will help with your mood as well as your hair loss. Hair loss is expected but it grows back! At 320 lbs - I think you made a great decision! Hopefully you'll think so soon!
  11. @kimsport. ask you Dr about an inhaled corticosteroid (Symbicort). I have found that this controls my asthma well and have not needed prednisone in years. I would bet your asthma symptoms will improve after weight loss.

I look forward to the responses. I have read that yes - the boobs lose weight. I fear saggy boobs down around me knees!

    Surgery is tomorrow morning!

@@tiffanymarie6997 Good luck!!! Please keep us posted as to how you are doing!
  14. @@KittyCathy22 I don't know how much you have to lose - but I'm assuming you were obese and that's why you had WLS. There are significant complications and health problems that go along with being obese. WLS is a huge step and scary to everyone - especially someone who has just started their adult life. Please know that it will get easier! Your life will be so so much better being a healthy weight. Think about all of the things you will be able to do - including have children and even grandchildren - and enjoy the time you spend with them. I'm 25 years older than you - and I feel like that time has been wasted. I never had children - and could not enjoy much of the last 25 years because of my weight. None of us know what life has in store for us in the future - so take a deep breath and just have fun!!! Sending you a big hug!!! ~Kristen
  15. @@Bethany Copley I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's hard enough to get through the any of this without dealing with a personal tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!
  16. @@B_D Might be allergies ... do you have anything to take like Claritin or Zyrtec? Stay strong with your pre-op diet - I look forward to watching your journey (while I wait my never ending 6 month supervised diet required by my insurance). :-)

    Eating makes me sick

I would definitely get checked by your surgeon. I was told by my Nutritionist and have also read that we should not be eating Pasta, rice or bread. Also nuts can be an issue. Can you go back to eating Protein shakes or soft foods like your post op diet? Not only will you not lose another 20 pounds but you'll most likely put weight back on eating cereal, cookies and candy. You'll also end up with health problems (i.e. diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, etc.). Hopefully it's nothing serious and you can get back on track.

Upper body / back pain after surgery

Make sure you have talked to your Surgeon and if it's expected then be sure to take your prescribed pain meds and keep walking. Concentrate on getting all of your fluids in. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

    Post op & work

My Dr recommended 4 weeks at least but said alot of people go back after 2 weeks. He said if I can take the 4 that you have time to heal and it's much easier to deal with the post op diet and meal planning.
  21. I don't think you would be denied but be sure to avoid sodium and drink alot of water.

    Frozen dinner question

The frozen meals have alot of sodium and additives that aren't good for you and can often interfere with weight loss. Just be careful not to overdo it with the sodium. Try making a week's worth of fresh meals and freeze them. My Nutritionist said 3-4oz meals.
  23. No I don't have a counselor but I think I should start looking for one. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App Absolutely!!! Your hormones are all out of whack and having major surgery can cause some of these feelings but you may need some counseling or possibly short term meds to get you through.

Pre op diet ! Clear broth?

I think food has played an important role in all of our lives. Too important! Someone recommended this book to me and it's been helpful. You got this! Think about how good you'll look and feel on the other side! They also sell packets of broth that you can mix with hot Water (easier at work, etc). http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054RXXS0/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?ie=UTF8&btkr=1

    Friends around you

I agree. I am taking these steps to lose weight. My family and friends aren't and shouldn't have to change what they eat and drink or not eat/drink in front of me. I need to change my behaviors and get to a place mentally that food doesn't control me.
