So where are 30 somethings shopping?

I left my 30's a while ago - but if you have a Marshall's or TJ Maxx near you - they usually have some great stuff! The other option is Target - I saw a lot of cute stuff there (even in Plus this year).

    Big bosomed friends

LOL. At least we have a sense of humor about this all! :-)

    Psych Evaluation

@@debby8892 I think they will tell you the "results" at the end of your evaluation. I had actually asked her for some suggestions for emotional eating and she replied by saying that she thought that would be the only concern she had as well (I'm assuming if I didn't ask - she would have told me at that time). If they don't - I wouldn't hesitate to ask them. I had never had a psych eval or counseling before so I wasn't sure what to expect. My first counseling appointment for emotional eating is this Thursday. I'm also hoping for a Sept surgery date.

@@pewpewpewpew We are the same size - I look forward to hearing about your success - your surgery is a few months before mine!

    Sugar free Popsicles

Did they give you any written materials? They're usually allowed but every plan / surgeon seems to have different requirements. It's not typically only the night before so your diet may be different than others. Good luck tomorrow!

    Psych Evaluation

Only once to a Psychiatrist for eval but I'm going to a psychologist to help with my emotional eating. I have to go thru 6 months of supervised weight loss for my insurance so I figured I'd get all the tools I can during that time.

    Psych Evaluation

Oh and alot about your previous weight loss attempts, when you became overweight, etc.

    Psych Evaluation

They will have you complete several questionnaires regarding you eating habits, mental health history, substance abuse history. They will then meet with you to review all of that and particularly your expectations with WLS, your knowledge about the surgery (before, during and after), coping with stress, any trauma in the past, etc. It's a good time to ask questions and get some advice. I have an issue with emotional eating and am getting some extra help with that before surgery.

    Ten days post op...help!

Watch for sugar content in the shakes. Kellogg shakes have 18gms of sugar with only 10gms protein. Way too high in sugar. You have to read labels. I bought some protein water that wasn't too bad - no fat or sugar. 9gms protein so you'd need to drink more.

    Carbs post op

@@bigmoe99 You are right - complex is what we want - rather than simple sugars. Although simple sugars include Milk and Yogurt and they should be part of our diets - but select the ones with lower sugar content (be careful with some of the yogurts - they are sometimes loaded with as much sugar as a candy bar! Thanks Moe!
  11. @@Sajijoma I haven't had my surgery yet and imagine I'll be feeling the same way when I experience the stalls. I just wanted to comment that you should be proud to have done as well as you have in the past 6 months since surgery. From your stats - you lost 135lbs - that's incredible!!! Stay strong and keep it up - you've done exceptional so far - there should be nothing stopping you now! :-)
  12. Your Surgeon and the info received from them should have told you that. :-(

    Alcohol

@tracywag. They now have some IPA Nitros that have the lower carbonation like Guinness (if you want something lighter).
  14. Really? This is not good advice! I don't know how she could even suggest this. :-( Getting enough Protein is more important.

    Shame

I waited until I was 48 and 289lbs to start this journey. You're doing the right thing!
  16. KristenLe

    Should I be worried?

You may have been able to eat a cup but you shouldn't. Instead of potatoes - eat protein and only 3-4oz (if that much). You should stop after that amount even if your brain still thinks you can eat more.

    Shame

Just think of what eating healthier and being active as a family will do for your children too! They'll never have to go through the same mental anguish and health consequences of being obese!

    Shame

I would encourage you and your husband speak with a counselor about both of your feelings. He is scared and maybe if he learns more about the surgery and how without it you may not be around to raise your children together - he will be more comfortable and supportive. You will need the support. Also - learn as much as you can about your emotional eating habits and what to do to avoid falling into that same trap after surgery. This journey is hard - and I think it's more important to prepare our minds even more than our bodies. There are alot of good books and articles out there. Good luck! http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm

    Visit a doctor first time

Many Bariatric Programs have informational seminars that you need to attend first. Go to that and learn and ask questions. As reree6898 said - many plans have requirements for approval - find out what theirs are and start working on them. Mine has a 6 month supervised weight loss program requirement which I wish I had known about.

  21. Food is always going to be around you and no one around you should have to change what they eat or avoid eating in front of you. It's a huge part of our lives and always will be. You need to be able to control your emotional eating if you want to be successful. Not only is "cheating" going to interfere with your weight loss but this early out, it could cause serious complications. It's just not worth the 2 seconds of satisfaction. Put it behind you and move forward. Good luck.
  22. I would encourage you to work on your eating habits before surgery. Just cutting out the fast food is a good start. The sleeve is a tool to help you but it doesn't change your behaviors. I would not go through a major surgery before attempting to change your diet first. If you continue to eat pizza and fast food - WLS won't work and you could end up with complications.

    Emotional Eating

I saved it to my phone to refer back to. Thank you for sharing!
  24. @kanok. What amount of protein are you getting? You need at least 64oz of water as well. Seems as though 3 weeks is a tough phase. Hope you are all feeling better soon! Stay strong!
