    3 weeks clear liquids

Wow - that's a long time with only Clear liquids and no Protein. :-( You might be experiencing "head hunger" instead of true hunger. Can you add anything to your Water - like flavor drops or crystal light? I would consider contacting your Nutritionist to see what they recommend - it's critical that you get all of your fluids in and I would have thought you would need protein in week 2 at least (but I'm certainly not an expert).

    3 weeks clear liquids

What have they told you to do for protein?
  3. I wish I was from the South and could just say "Bless Your Heart" to some people. Unfortunately, as a New Englander - I'm more likely to say "F*** Off B****" and end up in trouble! ;-)

Catskill Mts. of NY , here. I am constantly impressed with the pre-op savvy you have. How long have you been researching WLS? I like your attitude--assertive, but not aggressive--and compassionate, not belittling. I personally think this side needs more compassion and less "snarking". Thank you.

Thank you so much Valentina! I appreciate that compliment. I have only been seriously researching WLS for about 2-3 months. As you can tell - I've drowned myself with information. I have learned over the years that "snarky" doesn't get your point across. :-) Although - I'm damn snarky in my mind sometimes. lol

  4. Reading labels is a must - what you expect to be good for you often times is not. Some of the protein shakes have as much or more sugar than a snickers bar! Alot of "fat-free" foods are worse for you than full or 1/2 fat option. If you can't tolerate shakes - try finding protein water (no sugar/no fat) and see if that's better.
  5. @@Ruth1ess Pain is different for everyone. It is really important that immediately after surgery you take your prescribed pain medication - regardless if you think you need it. Once the effects wear off - and you experience pain - it is nearly impossible to get caught up and meet your pain needs again. Take the Tramadol as prescribed and take it easy. Take walks - but be sure not to lift anything or overexert yourself. If you're not better in the next day or so - get an appointment with your surgeon or ask them to try a different pain med. Many people sleep upright in a recliner for the first few days post-op from abdominal surgery - it's easier to get up. Hope you feel better soon!
  6. @@kbVA I wish I did the surgery before I started to have health complications due to being obese. That wasn't very long ago - it seems that all of a sudden - I have hypertension, hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, high triglycerides, multi-level disc deneneration (basically my neck and spine are a mess), asthma, joint pain and I'm sure before to long would have diabetes too. I eat fairly healthy (most of the time) - I just eat far too much in quantity. My weight has climbed to 289lbs and I realize I can't do this without WLS. I don't think a "temporary" surgery would help (me anyway) - I've tried temporary fixes in the form of diet pills (fen phen, meredia, xynecal) and diet programs (nutrisystem) and I just gained the weight back. I don't expect to lose all of my weight and maintain long enough not to fall back into my old habits within the one year the temporary surgery would last. Whatever you decide - best of luck! We're hear to listen.

Horomonal Eating - PMS and all that jazz

There's some good info in this article. I'm also going to go to counseling for dealing with emotional eating. I have a 6 month wait for insurance approval so I figured I'd get all the tools I could. http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm

    HIGH PROTEIN LUNCH & DINNER

    Looks delicious!

    Phase 2 Mushy Food

Not all protein shakes are a good option. This brand is full of sugar (20gms). That's the same as in a snickers bar. Be sure to read the labels. You want low fat and low sugar (under 5gms or less).
  10. Be sure to talk to your Surgeon about reflux. I have read that it can get worse with the sleeve (and many opt for bypass instead).

    Chest Pain

Do you have the nasal mask or full nasal/mouth mask? Maybe you are sleeping with your mouth open and swallowing more air? Try taking a gas x before bed and sleep with your upper body elevated some. I don't know if you'd need a CPAP pressure adjustment already but it's certainly possible. Glad you're better - you had me worried! Pain like that can be a pulmonary embolism.

Are guys actually checking me out at the gym?

They're checking you out! You're adorable - and have great curves!

    Some Good Food Choices

You need to eat small amounts throughout the day. My NUT told me to eat every 3 hours or so but very small meals (concentrating on protein). You could try cottage cheese, Greek yogurt (watch the sugar content though), beans, soup, soft boiled eggs, hummus, ground chicken or turkey). Be sure to drink plenty of water or non-caloric drinks. Watch the oatmeal for sugar content too! You should be sure to eat at night even if you don't feel like it! Your stomach pains very likely could be from either the H Pylori or antibiotic. Hope you are doing better soon!

    Day after pill

Since weight loss can increase fertility - I would strongly encourage you to find another birth control method.

    Deciding the Sleeve

@@Isabel2point0 I originally went in thinking lap band and my surgeon recommended the sleeve. He indicated that 50-60% of the patients who had lap band required a secondary surgery (band slippage, erosion, and other complications). The lapband averages less weight loss too - and at my weight - I need to lose more than what is typical with the lap band (of course there are exceptions). The Bariatric Program that I go to has been around for over 25 years and has an excellent reputation. The surgeon indicated that they remove more lap bands now they they put in. So - I decided on the sleeve. Reading alot about the lap band - I found what he told me to be a common complaint among lap band folks. Many are switching from lapband to the sleeve or bypass after having complications with the lapband. What reasons does your surgeon have to encourage lapband? Good luck with whatever you decide!

    People I Work Closely With

I would hesitate to lie to a surgeon & PA. Do you really think they would look down at you and think you're lazy? There's nothing easy about WLS - it's not the easy way out or for "lazy people"! If you prefer not to tell them - then just say you're having surgery and leave it at that. I would be more embarrassed if they found out you lied.
  19. I'm sorry to hear you are hospitalized @@koddie - I hope you are able to go home soon and feel better. I'm assuming that they have confirmed that you are not bleeding and that's not causing your low hemoglobin? How long ago was your surgery - did they mention if you lost alot of blood during the operation? Kristen
  20. I haven't gotten there yet but I'm the same way about pureed foods. I'm going to eat food that are naturally in this form (cottage cheese, hummus, canned tuna (I think that's OK to eat in this stage), Beans, etc. I don't picture myself pureeing "normal" foods.
  21. I would also add that if you are obese - to be successful at losing weight with diet and exercise alone is a lifetime commitment as well.
  22. Look under the Main Sleeve Forums and there's a Band to Sleeve.
  23. Very common reaction at this post-op stage. Things will get better!
  24. I couldn't find any either.
  25. There should be a forum for revisions. I've seen several posts from people who have this done.
