Weight gain already?!?!
KristenLe replied to Andrea72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's important to concentrate on fluids and protein and less on calories. If you are eating foods with sodium (I.e. frozen diet dinners) or not getting enough water - you probably have gained water weight. Don't panic! -
I thought my 6 month supervised weight loss requirement was along time. Geesh - 1 - 1 1/2 years? That sucks! I use My Fitness Pal to track food and activity. I am also going to extra counseling to learn how to stop emotional eating while I wait. Stay strong and patient!

Please let me know how you make out!!! It could just be gas pain - but it could be something more serious as well.

Band to Bypass with low BMI - what are the real risks?
KristenLe replied to Melificent's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Most Bariatric Programs in the States require you to be obese (35 + BMI) with comorbities or morbidly obese (40+) in order to "qualify" for WLS. I honestly can't imagine going through major surgery and modifying my internal organs with a BMI of 26. WLS was not intended for people who need to lose 30-50lbs unless there was a medical reason to do so. With WLS at a 26 BMI - you risk losing too much weight and having complications with nutrients/malnutrition. Just my fat girl opinion. :-). -
I have not but I did see sample letters online. Look on Obesity Action Coalition website.

You should call your surgeon.

What was your "Yep. I'm getting WLS." moment?
KristenLe replied to GranadoM74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny you mention the breathing. Yesterday when looking at my FB memories from last year I watched a video I had posted of my dogs. All I could hear was my heavy breathing. I was humiliated that I didn't realize that I was so out of shape just standing there I sounded like I ran a marathon. I would have muted it before posting if I had known! I had no idea that's how I sound breathing! -
It is perfectly normal. Your hormones are all out of control. Why don't you call and schedule a counseling appointment now? You could also look into support groups. It will get better so stay strong and when you feel like yelling at your husband - go for a walk instead. Good luck!

So what's the deal with fizzy drinks?
KristenLe replied to MamaRhea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not all carbonated drinks are unhealthy and make you fat. There's sparkling Water for example. I believe the assumption (no research has been done to prove it) is that carbonation could stretch the sleeve. It also often causes significant pain and discomfort. I would not drink carbonated drinks just in case of the possibility of stretching your pouch. -
I thought I read somewhere that they could not charge you ahead of time for a deductible and only a copay. Call your insurance!
-
I didn't because I have to go through a 6 month weight loss program in order for insurance approval. I also figured surgery isn't going to miraculously make me change my habits so I'm getting a head start on that.

Emotional struggle after gastric sleeve
KristenLe replied to KittyCathy22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would recommend calling your psychologist and seeing if maybe you should go to the ER for an evaluation. I worry about you. This is serious. -
Congrats Kelly! Hope your recovery goes well and you're getting support at home!

Gastric bypass versus sleeve for the 300+
KristenLe replied to Phynale's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You are under anesthesia longer with bypass and that may be his concern @Ruin's_Angel. Alot of High BMI patients get the sleeve. I don't think ulcers are any more of an issue with sleeve vs bypass. -
Anybody having CPAP problems after surgery?
KristenLe replied to TipTop in TX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your CPAP machine have a humidity setting you can adjust? I would try that and as @@kmorri said it could be dehydration so drink plenty of water. The other thing to check is that the mask is fitting properly (maybe weight loss has effected the fit). -

Muscle cramps 3 weeks post op
KristenLe replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Always speak to your surgeon about any concerns BUT - if you are getting cramps in your legs or feet - it could be dehydration or a vitamin/mineral deficiency issue. Make sure to be getting at least 64oz of water/non-caloric beverages (no caffeine) a day, enough Protein and take your Vitamins. If you are at the stage you can have soft foods - try eating a banana and see if that helps. Keep us posted as to how you're doing! -
@@daniotra I should also mention they considered my eating habits before making this decision. Because I'm not a grazer or a sweet eater - they thought that the restriction was all I would need.

Gastric Sleeve has the possibility of greater weight loss...just not as fast as RNY. I have a BMI of 54 and my Team recommended the Sleeve.

How long was your hospital stay?
KristenLe replied to Andrea Guadiana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had WLS yet - but I really think that going back to work after 3 days is a bad idea. Your body needs time to heal and although gallbladder surgery is similar in being laproscopic - this is much more involved and usually takes longer to recover from. I felt so much better after my gallbladder surgery than I did before (I had to have it done emergency surgery) - the recovery was nothing. Good luck with your surgery - and recovery!!! -

9 months out and Complications
KristenLe replied to TexasGirl86's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
There's many possible causes. Sounds like a vasovagal response but could be as simple as needing more fluids. Good luck at the Drs - please update and let us know how you're doing.
