  1. @@dccarite Make yourself some broth - it really helps to have something savory! I use boxed broth (chicken, Beef, Veggie) and boil carrots, celery, onions in it for an hour or so. I also add garlic powder, minced garlic, onion powder, minced onion, paprika, salt & pepper and celery salt. It's really good and will fit in with your plan. You can buy some of the boxed broths/stock that have some Protein as well. Try infused Water, Powerade zero, sugar free popsicles, iced tea (decaf), hot tea (flavored) for hydration. Hang in there!
  2. @@slusher1006 This is so important!!! There's far too many complications from surgery that could occur - you should never try to diagnose yourself OR assume that someone on a forum had a similar issue and they were fine so you must be as well. Glad you're feeling better!!!
  3. You will need to follow a strict liver shrinking diet pre-op. It'll be very important to stick with it and not cheat - because they will cancel surgery (even during) if the liver is still too big.

    You all lied!

@@okcbaby I'm only pre-op (day 8 of liquid diet) but it's very clear to me that head hunger and cravings are real and still an issue for most after WLS. If not - we wouldn't be seeing far too many posts talking about "cheating" so soon after surgery. I went to therapy to learn how to deal with these exact issues. It's helping pre-op - and I assume will help post-op. I think once I can eat food (even mushy) - it will be much easier to satisfy my cravings with healthy alternatives. Only being able to have Protein Shakes, broth and Water is a different story. I've actually been testing myself now - knowing that it will help post-op. I made a delicious smelling pot roast for my SO the day my pre-op diet started. The next day he made himself shaved steak sandwiches (one of my favorites) and even the ketchup smelled good. :-) I stopped to pick up pizza for him Friday and 5 Guys on Sunday. He went out and got a pizza again yesterday. I made a really good veggie broth yesterday and it tasted incredible. I am managing much better than I expected and again - I think this will give me a head start post-op.
  5. I'm on day 8 pre-op liquid diet. It's rough but not as bad as I expected. It's head hunger and cravings that are the worst - I'm not even physically hungry. Stay strong - you can get back on track!!! Your loss so far is inspirational!!!

@@Dashofpixiedust8 Oh - I'm so sorry!!! Get well soon!!!
  8. @@Mnicole There's many different versions. I never have clear liquids - Days 1-7 are Protein shakes/Liquids (but not true Full Liquids) Days 8 thru Week 6 are pureed/mushy foods (and continue to supplement with protein shakes). They should explain your post-op diet more before surgery or before discharged.

    Pregnancy after MGB

@@mmy There's a forum for RNY and pregnancy - maybe there's some information that will be helpful to you there. Usually fertility increases with weight loss. It's extremely important that you wait until cleared by your surgeon though (18-24 months for my program) as it can be dangerous to you and the baby to get pregnant sooner.

@@Dashofpixiedust8 Find other ways to deal with this - clean closets, paint a room, color, read a trashy romance novel, re-do your resume and job hunt, call a friend and chat, etc. I'm sorry about your job - but don't sabotage yourself!!!

Losing weight = less fatty liver?

@ I'm quite certain that your liver will shrink if you've been on a liquid diet for that long (as long as it was low-carb). How much weight did you lose? We have very similar stats (I'm scheduled 10/18).

Losing weight = less fatty liver?

@ I think it depends on how much sugar/carbs you are getting - I thought you had to be in ketosis for your liver to shrink. I'm not sure though - I have brain fog from being on 8 days of liquids pre-op! LOL

    Losing weight too fast?

@@keljo44 This is unusual and doesn't seem healthy. Are you getting enough Protein and Water?? There's definitely not enough protein in the amount of hummus you could eat. Are you supplementing with shakes? I'd be concerned that you were losing too much muscle mass and also destroying your metabolism for the future.
  19. KristenLe

    Getting in Protein

@@Thendy Are you drinking Protein shakes? Instead of the Jello - try some protein shake/drink - many have 20-30 gms of protein in a serving. You can replace the Gatorade (hopefully not full sugar one) with Isopure (Protein drink) or Atkins Lift. It's unlikely you'll be able to meet 120 mg of protein on foods this early out. You will have to supplement.
  20. @@mommabear2311 Definitely too many carbs and not enough Protein in your shakes. I'm sure the HCTZ will help too. Drink TONS of Water - like more than 100 ozs every day until surgery and avoid sodium (packaged broth). Skip the crystal light - have decaf tea (hot or iced) and water with lemon. I lose weight slowly too - and I went from 284 when started my pre-op to 277 on Sunday (6 days into my pre-op diet). I gained a few pounds this morning but I think it's from having too much sodium yesterday and not enough water throughout the day (plus I'm due for my period). Stay strong - you can do this!!!

    Not losing

@@ange1381 Did you read the responses you received? This is NORMAL. Your body takes time to adjust. You're losing at a good rate - stay off the scale and follow the plan.

    Numbness

@@keljo44 How far out from surgery are you? Have you talked to your surgeon? That's the first thing I would do - explain your symptoms so they can make sure it's nothing serious. You need to be sure you are staying hydrated and working on getting your Protein in.
  23. I believe so. There should be others that don't contain lactose - but with less sugars than the one you chose.
  24. @@Shauny85 Too many sugars as far as I'm concerned. Usually your surgeon's practice will give you a list of acceptable Protein powders/shakes. Premier Protein is a good prepared shake. I use Bariatric fusion (required pre-op).
  25. Asking about someone else's WLS and responding by mentioning how much they've gained is a little different than asking about WLS for themselves. If my Mom brought up my eating habits or weight gain - I'd be livid (even if I was asking her about her own surgery). He may be looking for info and considering it - but there's no need to tell him he's fat. He's a grown man - and a registered nurse - I'm quite certain he knows he's gained weight, and eats too much. @@jane13 I wouldn't mention his weight gain. Just lead by example.
