Blood /Urine test 3 months post op test indicates I am dehydrated
KristenLe replied to Pinkgirl1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have they recommended drinking G2 or something with electrolytes? How about increasing your sodium intake? Don't forget that you get fluids from other drinks and food too - jello, sugar free popsicles, fruits and veggies etc. Avoid caffeine. If you are exercising then you need to up fluids as well. -
Lesson learned for those in beginning stages - keep a copy of everything you give to your surgeon's office. @@Ashoryb I would call the Office Manager as well. Let them know what's going on and hopefully they'll address it immediately. Good luck.
-
If you are keeping this from people - I would not invite anyone to visit you in the hospital. For that matter - I wouldn't want anyone to visit me even if I told them the truth.

I'm freaking out now
KristenLe replied to biglady904's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's like the RX commercials on TV...the rattle off every possible complication to where no one would want to risk it. Blood clots are definitely a concern after major surgery but there are ways to avoid them (walking, blood thinners). -
Surgery date June 6th. Panic.
KristenLe replied to gmole85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being afraid is normal. Have you been seeing a therapist since your panic attack in January? If not, I would schedule an appointment before June. Talk it out with someone. If you don't have the surgery - what will your life be like...in 2 year? In 10 years? Here's a good article about emotional eating and I recommend reading the First Aid Kit for Living after Bariatric Surgery. Good luck! http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm -
Call your insurance. Stay on them.

Do you think I could hide the sleeve from my doctor?
KristenLe replied to Trying to decide's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know how it works in the military but there's so much sharing of health info electronically (health information exchange or portals) that I wouldn't risk them not finding out. What if there are complications? Your Dr may see the scars too and question them. -
I would schedule an appointment with your Nutritionist. Make sure you're tracking your foods and staying within the guidelines set (protein, carbs and calories). Don't eat more than you should but don't eat less either. I am not sure how far out you are or how much more you have to lose but you could always try going back to basics of post-op and see if it helps.
-
What are you eating that's causing it? I was under the impression that dumping can happen forever if you aren't able to tolerate what you're eating.
-
How about eating chicken (blended to a soft consistency like chicken salad)with a little buffalo sauce? It might hit the spot. I haven't had WLS but I think my Nutritionist said chicken was okay in that stage.

Psychological Evaluation Gastric Sleeve
KristenLe replied to chele367's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@sgc. Call your insurance for a Provider accepting new patients. My surgeon is also part of a Bariatric Program that has everything under one roof. -
Be careful with the nutritional content in baby food. I can't imagine eating it at all - but that's me.

Psychological Evaluation Gastric Sleeve
KristenLe replied to chele367's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not worry - just be honest with them and you'll be fine. Google Psych Eval for Bariatric Surgery and you will find some of the questions asked. They want to make sure you don't have any uncontrolled mental illness or substance abuse issues. You will need to review your weight history and diet attempts. They'll ask you what you want out of WLS and what you know about the Sleeve - before, during and after surgery. They'll have you fill out some questions about your eating habits. They're there to make sure you are ready and prepared! Good luck! -
Moving (walking) is really the only thing that helps but do you have pain meds to take at night to allow you to sleep? If still bothering you tomorrow - I'd call your surgeon for guidance.

Surgery a week from today. Just got postponed :'(
KristenLe replied to lindseyp1019's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's too bad. I'm surprised they're not prescribing an antibiotic to see if they go down before going to a hematologist. Did they check your urine to see if maybe you have a UTI? I sometimes have high WBC without any obvious signs of infection. -
You only look like a "pig" in your mind! You look absolutely fantastic - curvy and healthy! Look back at a before picture and see the difference! Don't let your mind play tricks on you! I am inspired by how well you've done!

Venting - So Mad!
KristenLe replied to Brenda Sherwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just because Insurance said the Dr did not send info - don't take that as gospel. Call and calmly speak to the insurance coordinator at your Drs office. If they fax - ask them if the have a confirmation date/time and confirm fax #. If the sent by paper - ask them for date and address it was sent to. It's probably somewhere at the insurance waiting to be processed. -

Beginning this Amazing Journey!
KristenLe replied to Beavuz842's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Even my Nutritionist and Psych said 6 months is too long! They're going to try to shave off a few months based on records from my PCP. -
If you remained morbidly obese - just think of the health consequences including premature death. However - at 22 years old you are also old enough to make your own decisions, research your options and educate yourself on the changes you need to make after WLS. You may not be experiencing a B12 deficiency ; there's a number of causes to tingling including dehydration or not getting enough protein (to sleeping funny). . If you are not following your Drs and Nutritionist plan - there will be issues that arise - consequences of that decision. This surgery is what you make of it - you can let it ruin your life or you can make it improve and lengthen your life! It's up to you! At 350+ lbs at 22 years old - you were headed in the direction of ruining your life without WLS. Sorry to sound harsh - but you need to start looking at this a different way.
-
How much water is he drinking? If he's getting in enough water and protein - then he'll lose. Often people go through a stall at this stage. Stay off the scale and just keep following the plan!
-
This article may help. I'm just starting out on my WLS journey and since I have to wait 6 months for insurance - I figured I would get ahead of the game and get counseling on emotional eating and mindless eating. Good luck! Stay strong! http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm

Caffeine can also interfere with calcium absorption (or so I was told).

In tears, owe 30k OOP. Don't make the same mistake that I did. PSA
KristenLe replied to cherryjello's topic in Insurance & Financing
The call was most likely recorded. Max $10k OOP would mean that's the most you would pay - not the most the insurance would pay! Fight this! The Surgeon's office wouldn't have let this go thru if they knew about it and it should have been included with the prior authorization they received. Is this insurance through an employer? If so - they should have someone who can help you. -
Before photos.....

My niece had a baby in March and she took the sweetest picture of me holding the baby. I cringed. I had to ask her not to put it on Instagram because I was appalled at how huge I was! :-(
