This can not be correct! (Bra talk)
KristenLe replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@CSchulden LOL I'd handle being deflated if Tom Brady wanted them that way! -
@@TimeIsMine There are plans that only accept certain co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea). In addition, many require you to be obese for more than 5 years (documented), documented proof of failing previous attempts at weight loss. Mine is making me go through 6 months of a supervised weight loss program - and I'm not sure if it is to see if I can lose on my own - or see if I can follow a diet post-surgery. I don't know whether I should be losing or gaining - it's very frustrating not knowing what they expect. Get in writing what is required for your insurance.

@@vandernoordh If it's an insurance through your employer (or husband's) - I would see if they have a benefit coordinator that could help you. Absolutely everything I've read states 40> without comorbidities. They need to show you the exact policy relative to your particular plan. United is very good at doing whatever they can to avoid paying - and I'm sure most people just give up. Don't give up!

My NUT said cheese can be a good snack (in small amounts). She said to try the stronger cheeses to get more taste for less quantity. Not sure at what phase it's allowed though.

[emoji23] someone said they roll theirs up like socks! -
I would ask for that policy where it states that requirement. That's very unusual with BMI > 40 and what do they want - for you to wait until you're diabetic! That's ridiculous. Fight it!

DID ANYONE WISH THEY HAD, OR DID TAKE VERY CREATIVE BEFORE AND AFTER PICS?
KristenLe replied to Womanvsmirror's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to do this but cringe at someone seeing them as they flip thru other pics on my phone! Lol. I don't want to be responsible for traumatizing anyone! -
I would call and speak to a Manager at United and find out exactly the issue. Then ask your surgeon's office to help with an appeal. There's some good info on Obesity Action Coalition website about appealing. Good luck.

Looking in the mirror
KristenLe replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Lisa_85 I am amazed with your 83 loss in only 3 1/2 months! That's absolutely incredible - and something you should be very proud of! I will take the bigger nose if I can be that successful! :-) -
You need to find out what your insurance plan requires. They vary so much and some have very strict policies.

Dealing with toddler post opp

I'd give your husband a kick in the ass! I don't think you had your daughter alone - you should not have to be the only one to take care of her! You will want and need help post-op. I suppose you're supposed to entertain your in-laws while you're at it?! :-( I'm sorry - maybe you could get someone in to help a few hours a day? -
Oooohhh...and so much prettier (and cheaper) than Spanx!

Packing for Surgery...
KristenLe replied to ashmarie1425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must be weird too. I don't think there's any point to having my SO stay the entire time I'm hospitalized. Of course, we have 2 dogs that I'd prefer he was there for them instead. I am not the type who really wants anyone around when I'm feeling crappy. -
Great! Glad you feel better!

Depressed & Can't meet H20/Protein goals
KristenLe replied to fullyalive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They have flavored protein water with 7gms protein that weren't bad. They're Trumino and I got them at my grocery store. -
So glad you're doing well!

I went with the sleeve because my Team felt that all I need is the restriction and not the malabsorption of the bypass. I don't tend to graze or eat sweets - which if I did I believe they would have suggested bypass. I have a lot to lose but that wasn't a concern for the sleeve.

Drink some fluids with electrolytes. You may also want to have something with a little sodium in it (broth). It sounds like you might be dehydrated. -

I agree - you need to see surgeon ASAP. -

KristenLe replied to fullyalive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're not a failure. Drink the protein water - and get as much protein as you can but don't make yourself crazy or sick. Fluids are most important. Your hormones are all messed up and I'm sure that's part of the reason for the tears. Call your Nutritionist or Surgeon to ask about not being able to get anything else down. You may just have more swelling but they may have suggestions. You can do this! Stay strong! -
Many have. Have you met with your Bariatric Team yet? Usually they (surgeon, Psych and Nutritionist) will advise what is best for your situation and help you make a decision.

How does he know? Did he ask about any other symptoms? How far out are you from surgery?

3 days post op HUNGRY
KristenLe replied to hollybower's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You really need to stick with your post op instructions. It's too risky - your stomach needs to heal. What you are experiencing is most likely head hunger or acid/gas and a PPI might help. Drink alot of water if you feel hungry. Can you have sugar free jello or SF popsicles? -
@@Daisysgro Congrats on taking your first step into WLS! Post-op from WLS can be difficult for the first few weeks - but I would bet 99% of those that have posted about not feeling well would do it again in a minute. It's not easy - you have to change your eating habits and lifestyle. Keep looking at this site - and especially some of the posts about success and before & after pictures! Write down your questions to ask your surgeon. Call your insurance and ask what steps are necessary for bariatric surgery approval? What steps after your appointment will depend on your surgeon and your insurance requirements. Many programs have you go to a group informational session, you meet with your surgeon, then most likely have a psych evaluation and a nutritionist evaluation. My insurance requires 6 months of a supervised weight loss program before they will approve (I was not thrilled about that) and I'm using that time to learn more and get some help with some emotional eating issues. Good luck on your journey!!!
