  1. WLS is life changing - but aren't we at a place that we either change our lives or die young from obesity related disease. Also - yes you need to take Vitamins for the rest of your life but that's better than taking diabetes meds, etc and not really living a quality life. You sound as though you are more prepared than others! Good luck in your journey! BTW - I wish I had WLS at your age.
  2. Sounds like a plan. Thankfully it's a short flight. Good luck!
  3. I think it's fairly common. Are you taking vitamins and iron supplements?

Will I be able to do this

I'm already having these dreams and have a few months to go. :-(
  5. I would be more concerned about getting enough protein than calories. Try eating 5-6 very small meals of protein. Add protein powder to non caloric drinks or broth. You could try cottage cheese, hummus, soft cheese, beans, tuna.
  6. I'm so glad that you had surgery so that they discovered the tumor. How scary! This journey is difficult alone never mind with the scare of Cancer on top of it. If you don't already - I would encourage you to go to a therapist who has experience in Bariatric Surgery. Maybe they can help you get your thoughts together. Congrats on the weight loss so far - that's definitely something to be proud of!

How plus size stores rip us off!

I have spent alot of $ at Lane Bryant and I don't think I've ever paid full price. I plan on getting a few staples in smaller sizes on clearance for when I start losing. Even paying full price for some of their clothes ($59 for pants) is worth it to me for the quality but it rarely if ever comes to that. I have beautiful fancy dresses I got on clearance for less than $30.

    Baby after WLS?

I was told it was safe to have children after WLS and it's advised to wait 2 years. WLS does increase fertility so you need to be careful not to get pregnant before it's best. Learn all you can before deciding - it's a major life change. Good luck!
  9. @Strangefruit. Have you had blood work and an exam to determine if there's a medical reason you aren't losing? That doesn't seem right that you can only eat 800 calories.

    Fatigue.... 5 months post op

I was told 5-6 small meals and concentrate on protein. Two tiny meals is not enough. This is probably the reason for the slower loss and feeling tired. Talk to a nutritionist with Bariatric Surgery experience. You need to eat more and get enough protein.

    Clothes Shopping

Oh - I forgot TJ Maxx and Marshall's.

    Clothes Shopping

Depends on what you're looking for but try Old Navy and Target. Also try consignment stores. I just bought a great pair of Seven Jeans for $4.99.

    Post Op cravings?!?

I'm not sure but assume we're not supposed to eat an hour or two before bed. I need to kick my celery habit before surgery! Lol

    Emotional wreck...need to vent...

I wouldn't postpone surgery. I think back to a few years ago when out of the blue I lost my job and my health insurance. You have gone through all the pre-op testing and are ready - apologize to your family and have the surgery as scheduled.

    Pre- Pre-op diet

That's actually similar to my day. It took a few days to get over that feeling of headache and hunger. Drink alot of water. You should feel better soon!

How plus size stores rip us off!

I love Lane Bryant clothes and with their coupons or sales - I've gotten great deals (often times going way overboard)! I wear their pants for years and they still look decent. If I can manage not to stain my shirt the 1st day of wearing - they last a long time too. Much better quality than Walmart. Although - I do buy undies at Walmart too. :-) The other place I have gotten decent stuff recently is Target.

    Pre- Pre-op diet

Carb withdrawal is definitely a thing! What are you eating? I'm on a pre pre-op diet too but it's not based on calories - it's low carb, high protein and portion control. I asked about calories and she said there's no need to track them. Eat 5-6 small meals with protein (4oz) and veggies (can include starch but I'm avoiding them). It helps my cravings through the day.

    Not losing weight

Try protein water for fluids - you get the water and protein at once. You are doing well - keep it up and you'll lose.

I made it! 15 days post op

    Day 6 Post Op

@@beylove Measure your food and stick with the amounts indicated by your NUT. It's probably 2-3 oz. but check. When done - stop eating. You will not know you are full for a little while and you don't want to risk overeating.
  24. BTW - you aren't alone - and many others don't realize how serious this is. You're prescribed a post-op diet for a reason and it's to make sure you don't have any complications. You found out the hard way.
  25. Talk to a counselor - I am and I think it's helping.
