BCBS won't cover lab work? (x-posted)

I would call your surgeon's office again and question them - as Quest may be the ones who didn't correct and refile. I work in the medical field and most often if labs aren't paid due to the diagnosis submitted - the lab contacts the ordering provider directly for corrected diagnosis. If you look online - many have similar complaints against Quest. I would not pay them.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

    nausea

Get unflavored protein powder and add to soup, yogurt or even water. I am pre-surgery and already hate protein shakes (pre-made).
  4. It could be that they're concerned introducing new foods (even if liquid) could cause vomiting which can cause significant complications (leak, etc). Programs/Surgeons seem to all have their own thoughts and ways they learned (or researched) that they feel is best. Does your Program have a NUT who you could call and see if liquifying chili is okay. Try some protein shakes made with veggies (no seeds) and protein powder for a different taste.

    Glasses

I went to the eye Dr yesterday for the very first time (I'm almost 48) and discovered I need progressive bifocals. Slight correction in both near and far. I am going to have to get used to wearing glasses.

    Water Retention

Try adding lemon to your water. Alot of prepared "diet foods" have lots of sodium so you need to be mindful of that. If you were previously on a BP med and aren't any longer - some of those are diuretics so you may retain when off of them.
  7. Try experimenting with different recipes. If your family starts eating healthier (but still tastes great) - they will be grateful in the long run. Your daughter will not have to go through what we've all been through as obese adults. Try and find other activities you can do as a family or with friends rather than everything being revolved around food. I'm still pre-surgery but I've been trying to adjust my eating habits now before I have to deal with hormones on top of drastic changes in my social life. I went to my niece's graduation party last weekend at a really good Italian restaurant. Everyone around me ordered chicken parm with pasta. I ordered baked fish with a salad. It wasn't nearly as good as theirs but it didn't ruin my day either and no one even realized I was eating differently. I'm also in therapy to deal with this type of issue.
  8. Ask your NUT what the goals are for your 6 month weight loss program.

    So many QUESTIONS HELP!

Call your insurance and ask for the requirements for prior authorization for Bariatric Surgery. Usually you have to go to an informational session first - and then meet with the surgeon. Originally I was told by BCBS I needed to do a 6 month supervised weight loss program but found out yesterday that is not the case (not sure if that's because of my high BMI and comorbities). It will probably be anywhere from 3-6 months of a process depending on your Program and insurance requirements. You can schedule a info session without your PCP involved.

    So many QUESTIONS HELP!

I'm similar in size and my PCP is the one who has recommended WLS for over a year. I do have several comorbities so you're lucky you haven't gotten to that point yet. The Bariatric Team suggested the Sleeve - based on my medical history and eating habits. Your PCP should be supportive. Good luck.
  11. @@Joyecamp1992 I had my second weigh in yesterday - lost a whopping pound! I'm not sure if it's the same at your practice but my NUT said don't worry about the scale - these visits are to get us eating healthy and learning better behaviors preparing for surgery (eating slower, protein/produce, small plates/portions, reading labels, etc). I also found out at this visit that I don't need 6 months of a weight loss program (I have BCBS and was told I did by the Rep). I'm not sure if that's because of a high BMI or my comorbities - or if they changed the guidelines.

If you eat out, where do you go?

Alot of places have a light menu these days. I am still pre-surgery but have been checking. Chili's has a few options. I had the 6oz sirloin with a veggie side (don't need to eat whole dinner). I've also noticed alot of places have salmon dinners now (I don't eat it though). I also have seen bun-less burgers or turkey burgers with a side salad. Most places will have nutritional information online so you can plan ahead. There's always soup if you can't find something else.

@@nene91 31lbs in 2 weeks is incredible! Your body needs to take some time to adjust. Get in your protein and water and it'll continue to come off.

    Can you change surgery date?

I think you can work with your Surgeon on a date that works for you.
  17. Everyone is different and what works for some may not work for others. This is not a One Size Fits All situation. If you have a concern that alcohol will be a trigger or problem for you - it doesn't automatically mean it will be for others. Most who gained weight back because of drinking probably didn't continue eating healthy either. It's the same as assuming every fat person is a soda/pop addict and must abstain forever. You can't generalize in these situations.

Will a Week Off be Enough for a HR desk Job

I'm taking 4 weeks! I have the time and my surgeon said it will help working through the post-op food stages and for meal planning. I have sick time and temporary disability.

  23. I didn't bother - we have 3 well known Programs in our small State and I went with the one that's part of the hospital I prefer - they're a Center of Excellence also and have an excellent reputation.
