    Why no coffee?

This is a touchy subject (too). Some believe that coffee (or caffeine actually) should not be consumed post-op. This can be from a few reasons - one being that some believe it can cause ulcers (it probably can). Also - I was told by my NUT that it can also interfere with Calcium and Vitamin absorption. Immediately post-op it could cause dehydration issues as well. Many have resumed coffee drinking post-op - others have given it up completely. If you drink a lot of coffee - I would recommend giving it up (or reducing heavily) pre-op so that you aren't dealing with caffeine withdrawal along with all the other fun stuff happening post-op.

  3. @@jintycb It was the other posts that finally made me snap and comment on this one. Unbelievable and scary as hell!
  4. Anyone on BP meds should also make sure that they don't need adjusting post-op. Low BP can make you feel lethargic.

    Feeling demoralised...

Here's a good article about Emotional Eating too. http://www.helpguide.org/articles/diet-weight-loss/emotional-eating.htm

What does the Psychologist ask you about?

Usually one visit. If there's any issues that they think you need to address before surgery - they may refer you to counseling or a support group but that's only good in the long term.

@@Tamster79 I have not had WL yet but wanted to offer some advice. Avoid carbs - they will make you crave more carbs. Go with a high protein low carb diet. Many Sleeve/Bypass people use this "Pouch Reset" diet and go back to basics. Maybe it will help you as well. My NUT recommends 5-6 very small meals (50% Protein/50% Produce). No pasta, bread or rice. If candy/chocolate is a trigger food -/avoid them. You should definitely meet with a nutritionist. Good luck!

    Tricare and bypass

Can you transfer to another Dr? Patients should be at the center of care and have a voice in their medical treatment. Find a PCP that will work with you.

@@bellabloom I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties again. Praying you get the help you need and continue to fight in this lifelong battle. Stay strong!!!

What does the Psychologist ask you about?

All of the above and more. They will ask you about what you know about WLS and your particular procedure (before, during and after), previous diet attempts, supports, etc. Just be honest - you'll do fine.
  11. Nutrisystem and WW may have your records if it wasn't too long ago but wait until your consult to see if you even need them.
  12. @@Tina4heath4ever You will have to show records of tracked weight.

It has been hell getting here but...

Congrats on your success! Sorry to hear it wasn't a smooth ride! You'll have to update your profile with your weight loss - it's impressive! (And all pictures are posting twice for some reason).
  14. My Nutritionist and Psychiatrist both thought 6 months was too long (I have a good understanding of the surgery and after surgery eating requirements) and my Nutritionist said she would work with me to get that cut down some if necessary. I had consecutive Drs visits in 2015 that showed we discussed weight loss (and often weight loss surgery or diets) that we were going to use to chop off a few months. Bring everything you have as backup/proof with you to your Consult.
  15. @@Tina4heath4ever I would tell your Mom when you are closer to the date - but I would be honest. You may need her help - and she needs to know what to expect (God forbid you have complications). That's what I plan to do - I think my Mom will be supportive but honestly waiting and preparing are stressful enough without her asking questions or watching what I eat or being critical (if that's the case). The only people who know I'm doing this are my boyfriend (lives with me) and my sister. I am hoping for surgery in September and I'll let my parents know once I have a date. Good luck at your Consult!!!
  16. Your surgeon's office can tell you more. Ask questions and take notes!
  17. @@Tina4heath4ever As long as you have documentation - it should be okay. I was originally told by my insurance that I needed 6 months of a supervised weight loss program starting the day of my surgeon consult. At my 2nd NUT appointment - I was told that was not the case and I didn't need 6 months (per the Insurance Coordinator). It seems that the typical wait for surgery is 3-6 months in most places.

    Post-Op Eating

@@jenmcd623 It very likely is acid. Zantac or Nexium are two that are often prescribed. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a class (group) of drugs that work on the cells that line the stomach, reducing the production of acid. They include: esomeprazole, lansoprazole, omeprazole, pantoprazole and rabeprazole, and come in various different brand names.
  19. @@Tina4heath4ever It will also depend on your insurance requirements. Many have a 6 month supervised weight loss program requirement - or 3 months in some cases. I would contact your insurance (if you haven't already) and find out what is needed to get approved for a prior auth (try and get it in writing).
  20. @@EmilyJune You will have a sore throat - which happens anytime you have general anesthesia. I don't remember not being able to speak for a few hours though (haven't had WLS yet though - only other operations). Pain medications should help with your sore throat and once you are able to have some Water or chew ice chips - that'll help as well. I don't think it will still hurt once you are home but you can get throat spray if it does (or liquid tylenol - as long as you are allowed to take that). Good luck with your journey!!!
  21. @@betterme38 It sounds cathartic and maybe getting it off your mind will make things better!
  22. Looks like the plan is based on low fat low calorie than high protein low carb.
  23. @@Ele marie How long you have been fat has nothing to do with not passing a psych evaluation. I believe lying about your mental health history, eating disorder issues (admittedly starving yourself in the past), etc. are more concerning. You were not cleared by your own psychiatrist/psychologist because they thought it was a "conflict of interest". That is a huge red flag to me - and should have been to the person who did your psych eval (if they knew about it). It is dangerous to come onto these forums and spout information as though you are knowledgeable. In my non-professional opinion - it seems to be you have an eating disorder and since your surgeon is the same one you indicated wanted to make you a poster-child for eating nothing but Soup pre-op because you lost so much weight - I'm more apt to take the advice of someone who's been through WLS and have been successful by eating healthy and properly.
  24. @"Ele Marie" You are commenting on a Thread that was initiated in the Gastric Sleeve Forum. The Veteran Sleevers are the people we look to advice from when posting in this forum. You have no experience in this topic - and in fact - 3 weeks post-op from Bypass that you don't seem to be following any advised plan (and admitted to lying to the Psych person to be cleared to have any WLS) you really don't have any valuable experience or knowledge of Bypass either.
