@@taylorgonzaless Good luck with your surgery (it's on my Birthday)! :-). I can only say that looking back - I wish I had the surgery in my 20's. I wasted 25+/years battling obesity and my life has been negatively effected. WLS should really help with PCOS. Just be careful as it can increase fertility as well so be safe!

Is this all you're eating? Find out what amount of Protein you should be getting at this stage and track your protein, carbs and calories. You also need to get in your Water (at least 64ozs).

May 16th surgery buddies?.....Let's do this together!
KristenLe replied to kmorri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@kmorri Are you taking any pain meds? I would encourage you to take them routinely if prescribed. Walk and move as much as possible (even if it's just rockng back and forth while sitting). I hope you feel better soon! @@cheerios45 Try taking small sips of liquids at different temps to see what works. I would not worry about protein shakes yet - just try and get fluids in (broth, sugar free popsicles, decaf tea, etc). Good luck! -
@@GSleeve822 Can you contact the surgeon who performed the WLS and see what they recommend? As @@jane13 mentioned - low potassium is extremely dangerous and if she's no better since the ER visit - I'd be getting another opinion. It's too soon after WLS to assume it's a virus. Good luck - please let us know how she's doing!

Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process
KristenLe replied to XxStephYxX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MuffinzGamma Usually it's the insurance plan that requires 6 months of a supervised weight loss program. If that's the case - then yes - you need to see the Nutritionist every month (and get weighed). It's annoying - but actually it's a great time to become as prepared as possible for post-op and how you will need to eat for the rest of your life. Take advantage of the time you have - you'll be better off in the long run. I'm not sure how often my Program requires post-op nutrition visits - but I'll be taking advantage of those as well. -
Looking for people who are just starting the bariatric process
KristenLe replied to XxStephYxX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@gina171 I decided on the sleeve - with consultation from my surgeon, nutritionist and psych (they are all in the Bariatric Program I go to). These are the reasons I decided sleeve (which I have yet to get by the way - so something may change based on my pre-op testing). I don't have issues with GERD so the sleeve is an option for me. My surgeon didn't feel like I needed the mal-absorption that the Bypass has and only need restriction (based on my eating habits and medical history). I don't really eat sweets - but if I want something sweet I don't want to get dumping. I want to be able to eventually eat normal things - only much smaller portions (once I am at goal). I can lose as much weight with the sleeve as bypass - although it may be a little slower (which is fine with me). I didn't want the vitamin deficiency and possible issues that the bypass brings. It depends on you as to what will work best - and I would talk to your Team about the choices as well. -
@@Andrea72 lol ... I just snorted protein shake!

Baby food 4 days post op
KristenLe replied to Gastricsleeve0514's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would avoid baby food all together but Apple sauce in particular usually has alot of sugar. What Stage are you on? -
What are/were you looking forward to being able to do post-surgery?
KristenLe replied to Maloneymommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to go a week without hurting something (this week it's my knee - the only body part that was okay before now)! :-( -
Call your Surgeon ASAP. It sounds as though you need to be seen. It's possible your not absorbing the antibiotic or may need something else. You could have a cellulitis.

Slow Motion After Stall
KristenLe replied to darima77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@darima77 That's a great loss! There's no way your sleeve has ran it's course. You need to follow your Program - and the weight will come off. Don't eat less - your body needs you to get all of your protein and at least 64ozs of water/fluids. Think about how long it would have taken to lose ONLY 43lbs before surgery. You should be doing cartwheels! Congrats - keep it up! -
Is there a way to break a stall
KristenLe replied to perfectlyimperfect44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am pre-surgery but from what I've read - more protein and water may help. It also depends on what your eating. -
I could never just have a few crackers and before i realized tbe box would be gone. I won't be eating them during the weight loss stage.

Sleeve to Bypass
KristenLe replied to Time4Kindness's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What did they say was the issue? Were you following the program and still not losing? -

KristenLe replied to Laura Lopez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I initially called - they reluctantly listed info over the phone. One requirement was 6 months of supervised weight loss. I wanted clarification on that (since coworker with same insurance didn't require that). I was told I would have to find out requirements from surgeon when they request prior authorization. Surgeons office told me 6 months weren't required (on my 2nd monthly visit). I wish I had that info in March - I may have had surgery already. -

I'm in Medical adminstration too and was quote annoyed. I even asked our benefits coordinator to try and get it and she was given the general policy info. It's BCBS of RI. -

I was told something similar by BCBS - Told me my Dr would need to determine requirements for prior authorization. I could not get anything in writing other than coverage info. -

You should ask your insurance for specific requirements in writing. I was told verbally one thing and found out different at my last Nutritionist appt. -
Those are the ones I have to do post-op I think. I would try broth if you are hungry.
-
@@Teapot Fluids are important regardless of stage. You should always try for 64ozs a day. It doesn't have to be just water though.
-
Yeah - mine doesn't! Can you have broth? May be that'll hold you over until the next shake. What kind of shake are you drinking?

1.5 year Update -with pics.
KristenLe replied to bellabloom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@bellabloom Thank you for telling us all of this. I have just started the WLS process and have taken advantage of counseling pre-surgery. I don't feel as though I have an eating disorder but I sure can benefit from therapy regarding emotional or mindless eating (I think most could). I wish all Bariatric Programs required pre-surgery counseling. I hope you are soon in a good "place" physically and emotionally. Stay strong! -
@@dede0314 I look forward to being as successful as you!!!
-
It's most likely head hunger or "habit" (it happens to me around that time too) - even if I've eaten recently. I'm trying to get my head in another place when this happens - but it's a struggle.

You look fantastic!!! Congrats!
