@ If you're up to it - you can make your own stock - which then you can control the sodium but also can add different flavors and it will then have Protein (a double bonus).

Post op 5 days and not drinking enough liquids..help!
KristenLe replied to Aliel84's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Aliel84 You will get dehydrated and it happens rather quickly - so it is very important to get your fluids in. Try different temps of liquids to see if you can tolerate one over the other (many need warm or even room temp - others may need ice cold). Here's things you can have to increase fluids: Water (mix in crystal light or a no cal additive if it's easier to drink), broth, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, decaffeinated tea or coffee. Take very small sips. You may also want to be sure you take a PPI if prescribed (zantac, nexium) and keep walking to get rid of the gas. You do not want to get dehydrated or you'll end up in the ER. -
@ Call your surgeon to be sure it's nothing serious. It sounds like it could be gas as well - walk and rock back and forth and see if it improves but please - anytime there's an unknown pain - call your surgeon's office to describe it.

Help me understand fruit and smoothies
KristenLe replied to cseidman's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
@@cseidman Although fresh fruit does have alot of sugar - I don't believe that's why they don't recommend having it during soft foods stage. I was told I could have "mashed fruit" (banana, canned fruit (careful of the sugar content). I believe that's why it's discussed in smoothies - but again you need to watch your sugar content. Fruit sugars are very different than added sugar - and naturally occurring sugars in fruit, milk, etc. are important in a healthy diet. I would speak to your NUT about this - as many plans differ but my plan recommends fruit and veggies. -
@@TamaraRae Yes - you can take Gas X but please be aware that it may not help. The gas is more likely to be in your abdominal cavity from the surgery and not intestinal gas. The best thing for gas pain is to move - walk, rock back and forth when sitting, etc. Hang in there!

How many calories are you consuming daily?
KristenLe replied to xochtlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@bdejong That seems low for calories and Protein for a male - but it appears you're doing well so that's all that matters! -
@@GinaCampbell I'm sorry you're dealing with this - but it's for the best that they take every precaution. Blood clots are a very serious and can be deadly complication to major surgery - so with high platelets you are at a much greater risk. Someone should have done something about this before now - but hopefully you can get this resolved and scheduled for surgery. Good luck!
-
@@catalina_uk You won't get full on liquids. Meet your protein and fluid requirements and when you can eat food - measure so you only eat what is recommended rather than waiting for a queue to be full (it will probably be too late by then and you will e uncomfortable). Good luck!

3 weeks post op and stall
KristenLe replied to velasd16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ndavis1991 How much Protein and Water are you getting?? Some lose slower than others and it all catches up in the end - but be sure to get all of your recommended protein and at least 64oz of fluids in each day. If you aren't losing - try changing things around (eating a little more protein, exercise) and see if that gets the scale moving. Good luck! -
@@i-am-erica What did you drink/eat yesterday? Also - are you on a PPI (nexium, zantac)?
-
@@kmorri Can you ask about getting something non-liquid or tasteless? Someone mentioned brushing their tongue helped with the nasty taste of things post-op. Not sure if you've tried that (I would most likely gag doing that though). Hope you feel better soon!!!

PCP Appointment Advice?
KristenLe replied to martypants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@martypants My experience has been that most PCPs will not have an issue referring you. If you can, bring any records from former Drs indicating your history of obesity. Many insurance plans require a 6 month supervised weight loss program before surgery so determine what is required by your plan. If you have records or weight recordings from any diet you've done in the past (WW, Nutrisystem) - bring them too. My PCP is the one who suggested WLS to me. -
mild sleep apnea - I'm pissed
KristenLe replied to transmformme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@transmformme Waking up during the night should not have anything to do with having sleep Apnea. Sounds to me like you're being railroaded into getting a CPAP that you very well might not need. Find out how many AHI's you had - that is how they should be diagnosing apnea. I also didn't have a home test because they're not always reliable. Hopefully your surgeon won't require you to get a CPAP. Good luck. -
@@kmorri Don't try to stay awake during the day - you are recovering from major surgery and naps / rest are necessary. It may be more discomfort not letting you sleep at night. Do you take your pain meds before bed?

mild sleep apnea - I'm pissed
KristenLe replied to transmformme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@transmformme I don't believe 1-5 apneas a night qualifies for mild sleep apnea. I would question that diagnosis. Also - with mild apnea - you can also get a mouth guard instead of the CPAP. This was one of the 2 recommendations for me with my apnea results (but I had 11 apneas per hour (which was mild). I went with the CPAP and actually sleep much better but I also have insurance that covered a large portion of the expense. Talk to them about a dental device/mouth guard for treatment instead of the CPAP (if you actually are considered to have mild apnea). I have had surgeries in the past and sleep apnea was never mentioned. I'm not sure why it is an issue in this surgery - but ask your surgeon - see what they have to say. -
The misconceptions about WLS from people who have not had it are hysterical, but...
KristenLe replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
This scares me too! What happened to only getting WLS if you had 100 lbs or more to lose - or you had significant medical issues (diabetes) that would resolve with GB. When I see what is probably a "normal" sized person (except on the BMI chart) removing 80% of their stomach or re-routing their entire intestinal system to lose 40 - 50 lbs - I wonder what the hell were they thinking. I think this also gives a bad opinion of WLS in general and why some think it's the "easy way out". -

May 16th surgery buddies?.....Let's do this together!
KristenLe replied to kmorri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@sgc Someone who's had surgery may have a better answer but I believe it is when you eat too fast and get a little backwash (from your stomach) - which causes grossness to happen like foamies (I imagine it's like really gross post nasal drip). -

@@carrie3101 You are not screwing this up and there's not a chance that you don't look different after a 60lb weight loss! That's a lot of weight - when's the last time you lost that much in just 6 months! Great job! I agree with the others about not enough calories and be sure it's protein first - and if you have room produce. No pasta, bread or rice. Good luck! -

@@Cathy48 I don't recommend taking an antihistamine. What your experiencing is normal if you drink or eat too fast. Once the swelling goes down it will be better. Take small sips and if you don't feel better - call your surgeon. -
