    September Sleevers!

You need to eat or supplement with protein shakes. You will destroy your metabolism staying at so few calories.

    Diarrhea

@@lmelton98 Try a lactose free protein shake or protein powder in broth and see if it's any better. I am pre-op and have had some bad bouts of diarrhea. I figured liquid in - liquid out. The saying is - never trust a fart so I assume that this is not unusual.

    Gastric Sleeve Eve!

Don't forget your CPAP if you use one! Best of luck!
  4. @ I'm on day 10 - and I got 3 different flavors of Bariatric fusion (required for my pre-op) - I want to gag at the vanilla and only end up having the chocolate. What's helped me is to add flavors to them - PB2 to both chocolate or vanilla, sugar free syrups (caramel, irish coffee, etc). The other thing you should try is blending them with ice - it seems to help. Are you able to mix them with milk - or do you have to use Water? I can have milk and I use a little more milk than suggested - so it's not so strong.

    Employer

@@ra_girl I informed my boss once I had a surgery date which happened to be a month in advance. Many times FMLA requires 30 days notice so keep an eye on that. Telling them depends on your relationship with them. If you feel that they will be supportive and not give you a hard time about taking the time off - then tell them now. I wouldn't wait to the last minute whatever you do.

    Frustrated

@@julsfit Maybe asking about getting some therapy to deal with emotional eating would help. Even if you just discuss your frustrations - having someone objective to listen to you and help you cope in other ways will be beneficial. I'm not constantly hungry - but man - my body doesn't want to let go of the weight either.

@@emilyann89 You missed the boat. You really should not have anything that's not prescribed on your pre-op diet. It's not worth the risk for a food funeral.

    Anal Sex Concern

@@Who'sThere I'm sure there are a few members who know the answer to your question or want to know the answer to your question - but are hesitant to respond. There's an LGBT Sleevers forum - is there one for RNY that you could either ask in that forum or PM one of the members? Not that this is only a LGBT issue - but you may have more luck getting a response.

    Optifast liquid diet?

@@khuuxo My surgery is Tuesday (10/18). It can't come soon enough!!! I'm allowed 5 shakes a day but don't usually drink more than 3 (sometimes only 2). It would make me feel alot better if the weight was melting off - but it is still up and down (fluctuating) daily. I'm actually surprised at how well I've done on the liquid diet - I never thought I'd be able to do it. It is not easy by any means but I haven't even turned into a miserable b*tch (yet!!). lol I don't have children but a few times I was tempted to sneak a piece of chicken I give to my dogs. :-)
  10. @@teedsg It all depends on your surgeon but typically you need to complete all of the nutritional visits and any other insurance requirements before they'll submit for authorization. Most surgeon's won't book surgery until the authorization has been approved. Then they'll schedule surgery - and order bloodwork and pre-op testing (they don't usually order this until approval because it needs to be done within 30 days of surgery (usually).

    Post op inside pain

@@ella37 That's understandable considering what your body went thru. Try to see if a heating helps. Hope you feel better soon.
  12. Each plan or policy can have different requirements for approval. Your best bet is to call and get specifics for your coverage.
  13. Congrats! I agree with @@nursemerry . It's so important to stick with your pre-op diet. It's not easy but remind yourself of the goal!!!

    Post-Op Update

That's not unusual. Try different brands or some of the Protein drinks like Isopure. You can also get unflavored protein and add to liquids (crystal light, tea, etc).

    What to eat

I bought really pretty tiny bowls and plates. I'm doing the same as you - I want to eat something delicious if I can only eat a small amount.

    Optifast liquid diet?

@@khuuxo This may be one of the hardest things I've done. It sucks but if you get through this just think of how much better off you'll be post-op. You'll already have good control over food rather than it controlling you. If there's anything other than shakes you can have - prepare and have them readily available. I can have broth so I've made my own (tastes much better than store bought). If you can have sf jello - make sure to have some in the frig. While my SO is eating his supper - I'll have broth. He feels horrible but it's okay - this is only temporary - I can handle it! You can too! 4 weeks seems like an eternity but it'll go by fast and get you started off in the right direction. A nibble of pizza is not going to harm you pre-op. Anymore than a nibble and you may trigger even more carb cravings. Stay strong!!!

    Post op inside pain

@@ella37 It could be the gas from expanding your abdomen during surgery. Be sure to walk alot. Also - if you have other pain - talk to the nurses to see if there's anything they can do. That's assuming your still in the hospital.

    Hypersensitive to smells

I was doing a major house cleaning this weekend and wore a surgical mask so I didn't get sick before surgery. I couldn't stand my own breath coming back in my face.

    Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

Sleeve or Bypass has fairly similar results but Bypass loses the weight in a shorter time frame. Your surgeon and team should help you decide what's best based on your situation. There's been successful people who have PCOS with both surgeries. Loss may be slower but not necessarily. Hair loss is a side effect from rapid weight loss. It may or may not impact you and it grows back. Don't let that deter you from getting surgery though. Your health is too important! @@Cervidae can speak to you about PCOS and RNY (Bypass)! She's been incredibly successful! Glad you are cleared from cancer!

Alot of people have issues with chicken unless very moist or mixed with gravy, broth, etc. Someone talked about cooking chicken in crockpot with broth and shredding it when done (like pulled pork).
