  1. @@itzbrittaanyx3 You need to stay strong! Think how good you'll feel when you don't give in to your head hunger! It can be dangerous for your health too - if that deters you any. Have more broth, sf popsicles or anything else allowed at this stage!
  2. I just came from my pre-op appointment with the surgeon. I sat around in the waiting room for an hour after the appointment to try and get a surgery date but ended up leaving and got a call just now with a date of 10/18/16! Further out than I wanted BUT I'll take it - and it actually works better for work and gives me time to get my shit together. I found out that I actually need to do a 2 week liquid pre-op diet so that was something I didn't know about (thought I was one of the lucky ones). Pre-op liquid diet starts October 4th - 5 Meal Replacement shakes (Bariatric Fusion) and 3 Snacks (broth, sf popsicle, watermelon, sf jello). Yikes - I hope I can stay with it like I've been encouraging others to do! See if I can practice what I preach! October 6th is the 2 hour pre-op teaching class (recommend bringing my main support person with me). The surgeon did tell me that he doesn't usually do a Leak Test in the hospital (THANK YOU!!!) - which actually was one of the things I dreaded the most. He'll only do it if there appear to be issues. He recommended I come off my birth control pills just to reduce the risk of clots - even though we do 1 week of blood thinners post-op (stopped those today). We went over all of the risks, possible complications and signed the consent form. Looks like I'm almost ready... So excited to finally have a date!!!! Thank you all for putting up with me for the last 6 months!

    Not losing weight

@@Asm0108 What's your starting weight? You might be losing slower than you expected - but honestly - 13 lbs in a month is not bad at all. You're still recovering. Weight can also fluctuate if you are getting your period, retaining fluids (maybe you had too much sodium), constipation, etc. Just keep moving to reach your goals.

    Not losing weight

@@Asm0108 You have to tell us what you are doing - to get any feedback about what changes you might need to make. 13 lbs in a month is nothing to sneeze at - we all lose at different rates. Are you drinking enough no-cal fluids? How about Protein - how many gms are you getting a day? You are also in the stall period - you may not be losing on the scale but your measurements will be different and your body is changing. If you're eating a lot of carbs (fruit, rice, Pasta, bread, etc.) - that could be an issue with weight loss. As long as you follow a high protein, low carb diet and get enough fluids - the weight will come off. It's not a race - so be happy to lose 13 lbs and keep going!

    Surgery was last night

@@Mnicole Try to walk, walk, walk - that's really the only way to get rid of the gas pains. It's not in your intestines - it's in your abdominal cavity. Even when sitting try to move - move your legs, arms, rock back and forth. Ask for something other than the pain meds that made you nauseous - and ask for anti-nausea meds - there's no reason to suffer if they can help. Hope you feel better soon!!!

    Dried fruit?

@blizair09 @rolosmom7 There's on my "no forever" list as well. I believe they also expand in your stomach - so that may be why you feel uncomfortable. Try to find something with Protein so you are getting a bang for your buck (protein and calories). Have you tried cheese, deli turkey, egg salad, tuna salad, ham salad, seafood salad, Beans, hummus, etc.

    How insensitive...

@@NikkiRT Could she possibly not realize that you won't be able to eat Cookies following weight loss surgery - or is she one of the ones that thinks it's the "easy way out" and since they waved the magic wand you are cured of your obesity?? That is so weird.

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

@@lowbmi65 It seems that is common post-op. I'm still pre-op and I'm required to have Bariatric Fusion Protein Powder with skim milk for 2 weeks (on day 11). They are pretty good - no chemical taste or after-taste. I don't know if I'll still feel the same post-op.

    Noodles

No one said they never eat carbs. You're coming off as very nasty in your comments. My plan suggests that I never eat bread, Pasta or rice. That doesn't mean I won't / don't eat carbs. There's a huge difference in carbs - some are healthy - some are not. We got surgery for a reason - and I can guarantee you that one day I will not binge on pasta, rice or bread. I'm not a binge eater in the first place (never have been). If someone has celiac disease - do you think that they just have pasta or bread (or noodles) because it's impossible for anyone to avoid it (as you suggest)? I will be listening and following those that have been successful.

    Any October 2016 Sleevers?

@@rmg19881015 There's a few really good threads about this - but here's what I have done. - Blender Bottle (to mix shakes) - A few different varieties of Protein Shakes (don't get too many as you may not like them post-op) - Comfy front closure bra - no wires (the wires will bother incisions and it'll be hard to take on/off with back closure) - Protein Drink (not shake) - Atkins Lift, Isopure - some crystal light type drink mixes (I also picked up some with electrolytes) - Powerade Zero - Making my own broth and keeping it in freezer (bought 4 oz mason jars) - several different flavors of herbal / decaf tea bags (including Smooth Move which helps for constipation) - heating pad - RTic container to keep fluids cold or warm If I find out I need anything else - I'll post again. Surgery is Tuesday.

    October 2016 Bypass Buddies?

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver so that surgery is safer. You need to go into ketosis for this to happen and that means no carbs. It's very important that you stick with the diet from here on. Some have had surgery cancelled due to their liver not shrinking enough. It's not worth chancing.
  21. Please don't continue to chew and spit food. This is a dangerous path - it's a form of an eating disorder. Also - you can get calories and sugars just from chewing. Your stomach also starts the digestion process scan cause acid. Try drinking different temps. Be sure to take a PPI and anti-nausea meds.
