    Discouraging news

@@Jenjen2016 It all depends on what your plan requires. Some plans require it to start after your first consultation - others want to see a 6 month diet program in the past 2 years. They're all so different - it's impossible to predict. My Bariatric Team was willing to work with me on reducing my 6 month time frame because I had PCP visits documenting weight loss attempts previously. If you have 6 months - don't worry - use this time to get prepared. I'm going to counseling/therapy to get emotional eating / mindless eating under control before surgery. I've also taken the time to learn everything there is about my procedure and life post-op.

    Nervous

@@hazelzay It's normal to be anxious as the surgery date gets closer. You will do fine. Pain can be managed with medication - don't resist taking what is prescribed. You may have gas pains - which will go away with walking/moving. There's a lot of good things on a pureed diet - so don't worry about that either! You've got this!!! Good luck!

    Lose skin

@@moniquea I'm sure you're emotional. Loose skin is not the end of the world - or the end of your life ... obesity could have been! It's mostly about genetics, age, how much weight lost, how often did you gain/lose, etc. Think about how much better you will feel when you've lost weight - and don't worry about skin issues!

    Tick tock

I'm still in prep stage but it hasn't caused issues at all. I actually think we are communicating more (probably as a result of therapy I've been getting for emotional eating). One thing that concerns me post-op is my SO had been engaged many years ago and his fiancée ended up with anorexia after losing weight and I just am afraid he'll worry about the same happening to me (which it won't). She was extremely sick and it destroyed their relationship. I actually brought it up last weekend.

    Summer Reading

Me!!! Read several books a week. :-). Mostly contemporary romance but lean more towards the funny ones. Kristan Higgins is one of my favorites.
  7. 50 lbs in 3 months is excellent!! If you are staying with your plan (protein, water, exercise) it'll come off. A lb a week is better than nothing - or a gain.
  8. @@lenewind Mashed potatoes are "allowed" on my plan but obviously the goal is to get Protein instead. It's about that time for a stall - so don't panic. It may not be related at all with the soft foods. Keep an eye on the sodium levels in the soups and be sure to get as much protein and Water as possible. The weight will come off again.
  9. I have absolutely heard of surgeries being denied because of weight gain during 6 month supervised weight loss program. I have also heard of surgeon's postponing surgery until more weight was lost (if the person had a requirement from their Program).

    Feeling a bit concerned

    It's great you're not struggling!!!

Day 3 of pre op diet

You could also try making a savory protein drink with V8, garlic, protein powder rather than a sweet one.

    Deli meat

Oh - I have to try this!!
  13. It is common to stall at 3 weeks. The gain is only water. If you are not meeting your protein and fluids goals - this will happen.

    Puréed food ideas please

It doesn't necessarily need to be bland. Just take it slow and see what you tolerate.I'd rather starve than eat baby food too!
  15. I would call your surgeon - as mentioned above - you should wean off of it. It most likely needs to be stopped before surgery.
  16. KristenLe

    Puréed food ideas please

Yes @@Cjanerun You can eat anything in a puree consistency. Strained cream soups or pureed soups (watch sugar content), hummus, greek yogurt (watch sugar), mashed cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs, egg salad, refried beans, etc.

I'm just going to leave this right here.

I grew up with Bassets and my sister continued the tradition until her last one passed away last year. They're definitely one of my favorite breeds. I have 2 dogs - and Old English Sheepdog and a Bearded Collie. They were both born deaf and I adopted them 10 and 14 years ago. They're both old ladies now.

@@Babbs I love you even more for having Basset hounds! ????????????
  19. You can't always address the nutritional deficiencies with supplements. Pregnancy that soon post-op isn't something you should try - I assume it was unplanned for those that did get pregnant. It is often a high risk pregnancy and stressful. The baby is at risk from nutritional deficiencies - as is the mother. Why take a chance?

    Questions :-)

@ Not everyone has a pre-op diet. It differs from person to person and surgeon to surgeon. On the other hand, 30 gms protein seems extremely low. Is that post-op?? Protein is critical for the body to heal and function.

Weight has always been an issue

    Good luck!!! You'll do great!

    Spanx for Exercise? Halp!

But it'll be awfully hard to go to the bathroom, lol And the material is all wrong - doesn't breath.

    Gastric bypass neck/shoulder/chest pain

How are you doing? I wonder if the pain is from sleeping awkwardly after the surgery.
  24. Call your surgeon. You may need meds or could possibly have a stricture.
