Surgery tomorrow - leaving for Mexico in 1 hour
KristenLe replied to NPR's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did it go?She posted another thread recently - she didn't have surgery. It wasn't right in her mind and decided not to go through with it. That takes a strong person! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
Having surgery June 15th
KristenLe replied to Janiegirl1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You won't realize how long you were under. When they prep you in the OR they will start an IV and give you something to relax (ie Valium) and you will be asked a lot of questions (multiple times). Once they bring you into the OR - you won't remember much and will wake up groggy in recovery. The RN will be helping you to wake up and remove the intubation tube. You will be medicated so hopefully won't feel pain. Good luck!!! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
I was "normal size" a long time ago but I'm assuming I won't look like that after 30 years in between. I can't imagine how I'll look and feel - I'm still don't believe I'll get there. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

Please be careful getting into the habit of chewing and spitting out food. That is a real eating disorder and it's easy to slip into that mode. You will also end up craving more. Find distractions - non food related. Have something savory - broth, V8 (if on your plan)! Good luck! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

Remember that the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver so surgery is safer! Prepare so that you have all you need on your liquid diet and it's easy to grab (so you don't go for something else). It's only 2 weeks out of life and it's so you can start off on this next chapter on a good and safe note!

@@Janiegirl1 You have got this! Think about why you are having surgery and all of the things you want to do when you're healthier and thinner! Write a list of things you want to do! Hang in there! You'll be fine!

That's pretty! I have a nasty scar on my calf/ankle and always thought about having a nice tattoo to cover/disguise it. I like this!

If you have any particular issues with emotional eating or mindless eating - talk to a therapist who specializes in eating disorders. You'll need to learn how to cope without using food. Good luck on your journey!

Emotional Rollercoaster( can you become bipolar) after surgery.
KristenLe replied to Jess3/25/16's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm glad you got out - you need to do that more often. You may want to look into having a vitamin deficiency - that can make things seem worse (especially Vit D). Also - get enough protein and fluids. Stay strong! -
@@Tssiemer1 There's so many possibilities that don't have artificial sweeteners. @@LipstickLady had some great suggestions. Try some creamed/strained Soups, ricotta bake (recipe online), cottage cheese (mash it up), add Protein powder to mashed sweet potatoes, eggplant puree, ... add spices and try different recipes. And be sure to drink plenty of fluids.

If the home test is positive for apnea -they may require a impatient study to titrate you to the correct settings. I was kind of freaked out about having one but I went to a sleep clinic and the room was setup like a hotel room. Yes - it was weird having wires attached to me but I did sleep. I had to go again for the titration. I had one before my WLS decision too.

Stomach stretching

@@sharonintx I have 140lbs+ to lose and think it's important to eat according to my plan. I would not lose near that amount if I ate bread, pasta, rice and sugar during the weight loss phase. Of course I need help controlling myself (as do most others) - I wouldn't need WLS if I didn't. Congrats on your success and being able to eat freely - that is a rare story for those of us who are morbidly obese. -
