    URGENT--advice needed

Find out who the Director of the Program is! Incompetence should not be tolerated. I have seen completely incompetent people running major Programs in hospitals.

    URGENT--advice needed

It appears they do have a good amount of educational materials online.

Contact Angela Willis - she's the Program Manager.

    URGENT--advice needed

@@Krystenaj From my experience working in accredited medical facilities for over 30 years - all it means is that they showed they were doing a good job and met the standards of care either through an unaudited application or during the brief site visit. It means very little to the quality of daily operations. I would call the Administrator of the Program and voice your concerns. The surgeon is probably an employee and has no control over any of these other areas. I would also notify the accrediting body with your concerns. I don't think I'd cancel surgery though -especially if you're confident in your surgeon.

    PROS & CONS

@@Ashleyconder Obesity and depression are diseases - just like diabetes, asthma, etc. You can't just decide "I'm not going to be depressed today". It could very well be hormonal - similar to post partum depression. Depression symptoms need to be treated just like diabetes symptoms. With PCOS, you have hormonal issues going on, increased testosterone, weight gain, slow metabolism, etc.- which can all contribute to your mental health - and it's all a vicious cycle. It's unfortunate that your high school got involved in anyone's weight "issues" (if they are even issues - especially if they're going by the unrealistic BMI chart). I was considered obese in High School - I weighed 140 lbs (5'2"). I'd be dancing in the streets if I weight ONLY 140 lbs right now. This is your journey - don't let anyone interfere! I'm also the fat sister of a beautiful, normal-sized, smart and successful woman but I'm never jealous of her - she has her own battles to fight and no one is perfect! One thing I strongly encourage is for you to go to therapy with someone with bariatric WLS experience. I've been since April - and it really has helped me - in more than just food related issues. Good luck - I look forward to watching you journey!!! Kristen
  6. @@kelwilliams It is so important that you get enough protein and fluids - even if you don't feel like eating. Your body and mind need protein to function. If you aren't getting enough - your body will start to break down muscle mass. You will get very sick. You've had a tremendous weight loss in 10 weeks but if you don't start to increase your protein/calories you will have issues including ruining your metabolism.

    PROS & CONS

Here's a few things to consider... - It is extremely difficult to lose weight by diet and exercise with PCOS. - Only 5% of obese people who lose weight on their own keep it off. - WLS will help you to lose weight and resolve all or most of your comorbities. - I was like you but waited until I was 289 lbs and 48 years old to do anything about it. Don't wait! - WLS is a tool to help you lose weight but you still need to eat healthy and exercise. - It is very difficult to get pregnant with PCOS and WLS reduces the symptoms of PCOS and increases fertility (although you need to wait @2 years to get pregnant). - You aren't your sister and what works for her most likely won't work for you so don't let her get in your head! Stay strong and good luck!

    Any June sleevers out there?

I don't think that's hunger. Be sure to be getting enough protein and fluids.

    Feel like this is failing?

@@Juliecrockett An 18 lb loss in a week is extraordinary. Your body needs time to adjust and heal. If you are following the plan - you will not fail. Stay strong!!!

    Six days post-op

It is a similar surgery with using gas to expand abdomen during surgery. Walk as soon as you can to get rid of the gas.

    Stomach Growling

Did they give you any medication for stomach acid (PPI)? It's most likely that and just your stomach healing. If you didn't get something already - give your Dr a call.
  12. Congrats!!! Hope all has settled at home! You rose above your many challenges - that takes a very strong person!!!

    Stomach Growling

Are you still in the hospital? You need to question your medical team about any pain this soon out from surgery. There's far too many complications possible to chance getting advice from others. It very well might be normal but you have a medical team for a reason - have them confirm it's normal. Good luck!

    Heartburn & Sore Throat... ouch!

You may have irritated your esophagus. I believe with GERD you'd have a horrible taste in your mouth and more of a burning pain. I would see what the Dr says. Good luck!
  15. Where did you sell them? I tried ThredUp and got a lousy $20.88 for 16 really nice items - that ALL sold on their site! I'd rather give them away.
  16. ^^This protocol is similar to mine- clear liquids, full liquid, then soft foods. But I'm assuming your liquids allowed for Protein shakes?

    Horrible Pain

You need to call your Dr! This can be the sign of something serious and shouldn't be treated over the counter. Don't take any chances...

    Belly pain

I would call your Dr to be sure it's normal. They may recommend a binder.
  19. Like @@Dub - I'm not eliminating temptation from the house. Pre-surgery, I buy a loaf of Italian Bread (my favorite) so my SO can still enjoy bread with dinner. This week I bought him a 1/2 gallon of ice cream (my favorite flavor). I need to learn how to avoid temptation as these foods will always be around us. I'm having the surgery - my SO isn't and he shouldn't have to sacrifice because I am morbidly obese. I would never ask that of him. Last night, he had potato chips while I ate a tomato. It takes alot of control and as I mentioned above - therapy has helped a lot!
  20. I recommend therapy too! It has helped me and I had the time anyway so why not get the most out of it. I believe it will help me tremendously post-op. I understand your "fear" of not losing after WLS. I often worry about the same thing but my Team assures me the weight will come off IF I follow the plan.

Personal loan to pay for surgery.

Have you looked into Care Credit? https://mobile.carecredit.com/

    Options for my smoker?

I marinate in garlic, brown sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil and coke zero! It would probably be good without the brown sugar but I don't think the amount of sugar in the marinade will matter.
  23. I wanted to cut out my own gallbladder during my final attack. If I didn't get Dilaudid soon after arriving in the ER - it was going to get ugly!!
