Alone on this new journey.......
KristenLe replied to Fettchick83's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Fettchick83 I think you might find this book helpful. Sorry about your relationship - stay strong and true to yourself! https://www.amazon.com/Emotional-First-Aid-Kit-Practical-ebook/dp/B0054RXXS0?ie=UTF8&btkr=1&redirect=true&ref_=dp-kindle-redirect -
Work trying to make me delay surgery
KristenLe replied to SashaMLS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is her boss - not necessarily Hospital Administration. If you ever lost your job over this - you have a very strong discrimination case. -
It could be from hormones or from Biotin (if you're taking that). I read that can cause acne.

Transforming Christine
KristenLe replied to lessismore4me's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Find distractions - read, go for a walk, color, go shopping (not for food lol), write in a journal, write a list of why you're doing this and what you want to do after weight loss!! Stay Strong! -
Pre-Insurance Approval Weight Loss Question
KristenLe replied to MNovalis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@MNovalis I don't think this will effect your approval. Don't gain anything - that could jeopardize you even more. -
Work trying to make me delay surgery
KristenLe replied to SashaMLS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@SashaMLS Fill out the FMLA paperwork and when surgeon submits surgery date, etc - let HR deal with it. You don't even need to talk to your boss. Those records shouldn't even be made available to your boss. -
Does Optifast cause a lost of appetite?
KristenLe replied to PRINCESS2218's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It should be filling but I don't believe it suppresses your appetite. It will not help with the head hunger and the sense you need to "chew" something unfortunately. -
Does everyone but me have a nutritionist?
KristenLe replied to cseidman's topic in Food and Nutrition
@@cseidman I got more out of appointments with the Bariatric Team Psychologist than the NUT (pre-op anyway). Check the website of your Program and see if they have any good educational materials about post op eating. You are better off going to one that's part of a Bariatric Program rather than a private one. -
You need to answer honestly. The only one you hurt by trying to answer "properly" is you. They're there to make sure you are ready. They will ask about previous weight loss attempts, depression and anxiety screenings, questions about support system, knowledge of surgery, etc. Just relax and be honest.

Pre op weight loss
KristenLe replied to ahipchik1965's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 3 lbs in 3 months. Woohoo. Lol My nutritionist said it wasn't about losing but learning healthy eating habits. Ask your nutritionist or surgeon? I know every program is different but I didn't have to lose. If you gained - I assume that would be an issue. -
Don't give up! Get all the education you need about Bypass and I'm sure you will be more comfortable with the decision.

6 days post op, hungry....

Are you not allowed Protein shakes at this stage? Can you at least add Protein powder to clear liquids?I wouldn't go off plan. -
Psychiatrist with bad reviews
KristenLe replied to keto_jo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go to the Eval but if you don't like him and feel you need further help go to someone else. If he's bad - notify The Dr that referred you so they find an alternative referral source. -
May 24 Surgery Day
KristenLe replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Are you on a PPI? If not - ask your Dr to prescribe one. Feel better soon!Yes, I take a PPI each morning. This is the first heartburn I've had since surgery. It kind of caught me by surprise!Do you associate it with something you drank/ate? Might be worth a call to your Dr to see what they say. -
It happens often. You will be okay.

KristenLe replied to SashaMLS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@Valentina I agree to an extent but I don't see why the Union needs to get involved at all. This is a federal law and a boss does not have the right to deny you FMLA if you "qualify". -

@@Kyn13 I wasn't required to go to therapy but I asked for it. My issues were boredom eating (which is part of emotional/mindless eating). I also have a SO that eats chips, soda, ice cream but he doesn't have a weight problem. He's not the one having WLS. Temptation is always going to be there - you need to be able to be around junk food and be able to pass it up. I don't want to make my SO sacrifice because I can't control my eating. I encourage therapy to deal with this before surgery.

Psych Evaluation
KristenLe replied to ahipchik1965's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Please be honest! The only one you hurt by not telling them everything or answering honestly is yourself. They are there to make sure you are prepared for life after surgery! If you have any "issues" - they will work with you at addressing them. Taking advantage of therapy or counseling is the best thing you could do for yourself! -
I went to therapy through my Bariatric Program to help with emotional eating! I just left being "cleared" for surgery! I can't tell you how much it's helped me - including non weight loss issues. I feel completely ready for life after surgery!

That's a tough one! I am not a Mom so take my advice with that in mind. I would talk to her open and honestly about the importance of eating healthy and being active for health reasons and explain that you really wish you could have done things differently so you would not need WLS. You both can cook healthy and tasty meals together and both learn good eating habits at the same time. Be active together! Do not focus on the weight you're losing but on the improved health. Avoid discussions about weight or your body - talk more about how much more you are able to do and how good you feel. Let her discover eating good food makes you feel better - don't criticize if she snacks on junk (everything in moderation - you don't want to make her feel deprived or guilty or she'll hide eating junk). I think if you are open with her - she'll get as much out of this as you do and avoid being an overweight adult! Best of luck!
