What are your other addictions/ obsessions?

I've always had a shopping addiction and I don't see it getting better after losing weight. I love ebooks (fluff only - nothing that requires a lot of thinking or that will make me anxious). I'm obsessed with dogs - particular my own. They are my children. Unfortunately I'm addicted to FB and lately BP. Lol I love gardening but we have a horrible gypsy moth catepillar infestation that prevents me from enjoying being outside and I haven't planted any flowers this year. Catepillar poop and chewed leaves rain down constantly and is everywhere in my yard, on my deck, gets in your hair! YUCK! My latest food addiction is sugar free popsicles. I go thru stages. Last addiction was celery and sour cream dip - that lasted a few months.

    Liquid diet

    @@DahliaIris Why aren't they approving it?? :-(
  3. @@KristenVSG2014 People suck - that's all there is to it! I honestly don't understand how they can think that it is okay to say things like this! Did they tell you "hey you're looking really fat - you might want to go on a diet" or "your haircut looks horrible - you shouldn't have cut it". Those are only things a Mom would say! Seriously though - don't let them bring you down! You've done so well and should be proud!!! Just wait until they see your new kick ass body after plastics - they'll be even more jealous!!! Some people just like to knock others down - it's not about you or how you look - it's about them! Stay strong, my friend!!! You look beautiful!

    Can't band the brain

@@BL.banded.3 Emotional/Mindless eating is so difficult and can really derail your weight loss efforts! I am pre-op sleeve surgery but I went to therapy for this issue and have found that it helped tremendously! I went to the psychologist that is part of my Bariatric Team - she was helping me with eating issues and how to manage post-op - she wasn't dealing with my depression/anxiety (on meds for those through my PCP). I would strongly recommend counseling with someone who has experience in bariatric surgery. Weight does come off slowly with lapband but if you are not following your plan (night eating) - then this will cause it to be even slower (or stop completely). As your topic said -you can't band the brain! Be sure to track everything you eat. Stick to your plan - enough Protein and fluids and stay away from slider foods and simple carbs. Make sure to have healthy alternatives available at all times - it's much better to grab a sugar free popsicle or some cucumber slices at night than it is to grab crackers, Cookies, etc. Find distractions to your emotional hunger - go for a walk, color, read a book, paint your nails, groom your dog (or cat), etc. Good luck - you can do this!!!
  5. I would highly recommend therapy! We need help with emotional eating in addition to getting surgery (which is only a Tool to help restrict portions). Talk to a member of your Team - maybe they can give you some advice. Good luck!

    A drink

Feel bad physically or mentally? Don't beat yourself up - move on and stick to your plan! There's certainly worse you could have "cheated" with.
  7. @@Renkoss Damn Cheez-Its! I went away recently with family and packed all "good" foods for me to eat (pre-surgery). I thought I had it all figured out until someone whipped out a box of Cheez-Its! I almost cried! Lol. I didn't cave though - I pulled out my cucumber slices and hummus and chucked my middle finger at the Cheez-Its! ????. I even buy them for my SO so I have to have enough strength not to give in to temptation (because it'll always be around me). I'm sure I will slip up at times - but I'm hoping that the work I'm doing on my mind pre-surgery helps post-op. :-)

    what to tell the surgeon?

I eat mostly healthy but far too much! That actually makes you a better candidate for surgery because the surgery can help reduce portion sizes but can't stop you from eating junk food. You sound like a great candidate and just be honest with your Team - they are there to support you - not turn you down.
  9. Hopefully you feel better soon! Keep is posted!
  10. @@BarefootDrummer Welcome and best of luck on your journey!!!
  11. KristenLe

    And the Journey begins !

You need to increase fluids ASAP - pain in your kidneys is a sign of dehydration and can be serious. Try flavored Water, infused water, broth, sugar free popsicles, etc. It's so important to get at least 64ozs. If you're still having kidney pain - call you Dr. Good luck!
  12. @@Heidi.E I would definitely schedule a meeting with a Bariatric Nutritionist. Hopefully they can answer any questions you have! Good luck! @@beyondgrief That's a great document! I like how it is comprehensive! Thank you for sharing!

  14. @@menaegle Be sure to focus on getting in enough Protein and fluids - you'll do fine! It is important to track macros- especially this early out. I have nearly identical stats as you do so I look forward to watching your progress!

    URGENT--advice needed

@@Krystenaj I am so sorry you are going through some difficult times. Thankfully you have the support needed. It's probably best that you didn't go through with the surgery anyway - the emotional aspect of post-op is very difficult in typical situations. Hope you are doing better soon! Many prayers! Stay strong!

    Choosing a Surgeon

@@aster Surgery is just a tool. Be sure to get help with the emotional/mindless eating before surgery - as you will need to eat healthy and low carb to be successful.

    Feeling defeated

@@ccnb Sounds like you are doing great! Keep it up! Don't restrict calories - concentrate on Protein. That's a great question at 1 month out I'm only able to do 500-700 day. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App I'm almost 3 months out and I'm between 400 to 650 per day still. I've heard going above 800 during this initial weight loss can be harmful to weight loss. Idk. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App It's really the other way around.

    "Sugar Free"

@taracrutch If it makes you feel better - you're losing fat from your liver - making for a safer surgery!
  19. KristenLe

    "Sugar Free"

You should look for less than 5gms sugar per serving. Add some flavors to plain oatmeal (cinnamon, pumpkin). Low / No Fat options often have added sugar to make them taste better. I would avoid No Fat at least (except maybe milk). Take it slow and see if you tolerate the flavored oatmeal but if you start getting cravings - I'd cut out the added sugar items.

    Low calorie chewing gum?

Chewing gum is not advised after WLS for a few reasons (not sure if legitimate).
