I'm at a major stall!
KristenLe replied to DFernandez718's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@DFernandez718 You lost 34lbs in your first week - that's a tremendous amount of weight and it's no wonder you've stalled a bit. Your body needs time to adjust. Stick with your plan! Don't worry about restricting calories at 2 weeks out. Get your protein, fluids and vitamins. -
I'm at a major stall!
KristenLe replied to DFernandez718's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much Protein are you getting? You may not be eating enough if you are exercising alot. Less calories don't necessarily mean weight loss. -
That is not accurate. Gastric Sleeve Surgery and Bypass have a less than 1% mortality rate... actually less than gallbladder surgery. Talk to your surgeon about the risks of surgery.
-
You need to learn healthy eating habits. The surgery wasn't a magic wand - it's only a tool to help with portion control. You have to do the rest. Why have you tried foods that could make you sick? I don't know how much weight you expected to lose (42lbs is alot) but it is easy to eat around your sleeve. Stick to your plan.

How about some NSVs!?!?
KristenLe replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for posting this! Once you have damaged your spine - there's no such thing as pain free. Great job on your successful weight loss! -
Alcohol can cause bleeding this early out. In addition, it can cause dehydration (which is already a risk after WLS). Please be careful.
-
That is not something I've heard of being related to WLS. I'd call your surgeon or PCP. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

Looking for those who had sleeve in August 2015
KristenLe replied to Sherri1964's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you're struggling. Try going back to basics and getting back on track! You don't want to start putting on weight again! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
KristenLe replied to psvzum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe I won't even bother with surgery - obviously the magic is weighing daily! Thank God I know that now! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
That's unusual. Usually you have a pre-op appt at the hospital to get blood work and surgery instructions. You may want to call.
-
Ack! Hate snakes! I'd be riding my bike all the way up North and away from him!
-
Do you have pre-op blood work to be done?
-
It's not advisable. Too much sugar.

How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
KristenLe replied to psvzum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's research about everything imaginable - it doesn't mean it has to be that way and no other way. Not weighing daily has nothing to do with immaturity - I have no idea where you come up with this crap! -
Eating Disorder - Bulimia

Please contact your Team and get some therapy. It's extremely important for your health. You can also cause significant complications eating too much and vomiting. -
@@beccaconaty87 I wish I had WLS at your age. I waited until I was 48 years old and had all of the health problems that go along with obesity. You can do this!
-
@@beccaconaty87 I strongly encourage therapy as part of your journey. Write a list of all the "positives" of losing weight - and all the things you'd like to do once you have lost weight (that you can't do now). Remember - morbid obesity has far more health complications and a 50% increased risk of death. That's a scary statistic! You are still young and can take control of your life and your health before you have the comorbidities that go along with obesity (sleep apnea, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, joint pain, etc.). When you consider all the complications and effects of obesity - the lose skin after weight loss doesn't seem all that important. Whether or not you have lose skin is dependent on your weight loss (yo-yo diet) history, genetics, amount to lose, speed of loss, etc. No one can predict that you'll have less skin issues with the sleeve than bypass. At 300+ lbs - you need to really consider your health and future instead of worrying about how you will look after losing weight. The sleeve sounds like a good option for you - there's no malabsorption issues to deal with. If you follow the plan - get enough Protein, Vitamins and exercise - you can look and feel great! Stay strong and positive!!!

@@Eustacia Vye My nutritionist told me not to concentrate on calories at that stage - but to ensure we were getting enough Protein (60-80 gms for me), drinking plenty of no-cal fluids and exercising. We haven't talked about calorie intake yet. It sounds like you are doing fine - just be sure to get your protein and fluids.

Will WLS work if the problem isn't overeating?
KristenLe replied to WitchySar's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@VSGAnn2014 I agree. Most of us don't realize how much we are actually eating. When we think we're not eating alot - we most likely are eating more than we should. "Too much" is very subjective. I didn't eat junk food but I definitely ate more than the appropriate portion sizes of healthy food. My salads often weighed over a pound. I would eat nearly a quart of Soup for lunch. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance - but the overall reason for weighing 290 lbs was overeating and not exercising. I had no clue what a proper portion size was - and am still trying to learn. -
Ha, I think it is complex affair. The idea that only confident people have life partners is false. There are plenty of lo self esteem people running around who are married. One's confidence should not be rooted in one's appearance. I am somebody and have worth independent of my present size. What holds you back from being in a committed relationship then?
-
@@Eustacia Vye You have very little to lose (you're already close to my GOAL weight) - so the weight is definitely going to come off slower. 16 lbs is nothing to sneeze at though - that's a good loss considering you are starting at 173 lbs. Do not restrict calories - you will mess up your metabolism. Be sure to get in enough Protein and fluids!

Being denied due to weight gain...
KristenLe replied to achappex3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@qmissy824 Don't listen to the "my mother worked with a woman who's brother died from weight loss surgery" stories! The orientation will review the complications and risks. There are far more risks of dying from obesity than there is from WLS. It is extremely important to follow your surgeon's pre-op and post-op instructions - that will drastically reduce your risk of complications! Good luck on your journey! -
My Program recommends protein shakes to get the recommended protein rather than getting them with food at this stage. They also recommend eating 5-6 times (3 hrs in between) and not to concentrate on calories.. All plans are different so call your Nutritionist and see what they recommend.
-
I know it's difficult but don't compare yourself to others! 39lbs lost in 73 days is excellent! Yes - it's slower than some but they may have more to lose or will lose fast at the beginning and slow down. Keep going - you're definitely headed in the right direction! Follow your plan - you'll lose!
-
That's an optimistic loss - just be careful not to set yourself up for disappointment if you don't lose 42 lbs in 8 weeks. You have less to lose than many of us and might lose slower.
