    Scheduling surgery question

Once my insurance was approved, I then had to have some pre-op testing done before surgery was scheduled. Mine was approved the end of June and with some delays by the surgeon - I didn't get surgery until 10/18. If there's a wait - take advantage of it to prepare yourself for life after surgery. Work on any eating issues you have - emotional eating, boredom eating, etc.

Pills are they hard to swallow

@@Serenity141 I'm having some difficulties (but am only 6 days out). I got sick in the hospital trying to take my pills so a lot of it is psychological at this point. I can't take my Vitamins yet - the smell alone make me gag. The only thing that has made it easier to swallow pills is I'm able to take normal sips already.

I am on the losers bench.

@@bevmccarthy Congrats! The diarrhea will settle down - or it should. I was happier with the Big D than constipation. Feels good to be on the Loser's Bench finally!!
  4. @@Annlinet How much your skin will sag has alot to do with how much you have to lose, how many times you've lost and gained, age and mostly genetics. Some require surgery to remove the extra skin - some just live with it - and some don't have too much. I'll be much happier with saggy skin than fat filled skin!
  5. @@Nibbler You've lost 90+ lbs - that's not a failure!!! You know what you need to do to keep losing - stay positive and get it done!

    Liver Reduction Week 2

@@Latoya1214 You will be so much better off sticking with your liquid diet pre-op - it sucks - but it not only prepares your body for a safer surgery - it prepares your mind for post-op and dealing with head hunger or cravings. Stay strong!

    Clothing changes?

@@HRHMKB I am in a 24, 26/28, 3X, some 22's (pants) - and was 289 when I started this journey. You're in smaller sizes than your weight would suggest already - so you may not lose as many sizes as some others. I wouldn't by anything until you need it - then shop at consignment shops, thrift stores ( I got a really nice pair of 7even jeans at Salvation Army), eBay, or ThredUp until you're more settled in a size.
  8. @@anonmom I'm with @@OutsideMatchInside on this one. Eating slowly and mindfully pre-op will probably be more helpful in the long run. The best thing I did pre-op was dealing with emotional eating (boredom, mindless) with a few weeks of therapy. I didn't necessarily cut back portion sizes - but I stuck with high protein/low carb and when the time came for my pre-op liquid diet - I stuck to it 100% (with help from the therapy I received). I wouldn't bother practicing small bites/sips.
  9. I'm doing good with my fluids (can drink almost normal sips) but not so good with protein. Sending the SO to get something else I can try for protein. The protein shakes aren't cutting it - and Atkins LIft (my backup plan) is nasty!

@TracyBar I didn't post anything much. Everything went well - was in hospital longer than expected due to nausea and not being able to keep anything down. Came home Friday (surgery was Tuesday). I had very little pain except when I first woke up from anesthesia. The nausea was much worse and I would have preferred pain. I'm doing pretty good so far - just a week out. I'm more tired today than the previous few days having no problems sleeping (on my side or stomach). Getting in plenty of fluids - able to take normal sips. The protein shakes are not going down easily though. I'm on mushy foods starting tomorrow so looking forward to that. My follow-up with surgeon is tomorrow too. He told me that my stomach was extremely stretched (actually plopped over my spleen and required 6 incisions during surgery) so that surgery should definitely be very effective.

    Sleeved and healing well

Hey I was looking for you..I am great..Tuesday...I start on purees...Any suggestions?..How was your surgery and how so you feel? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App I had a rough first few days - didn't get discharged until Friday. I feel good now though. I'm looking forward to purees. I'm going to try scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, refried Beans, blended chili, creamed Soups, etc. Glad you're feeling well.
  11. My plan is 1-2 ozs working up to 4 ozs by week 6. It's important to measure and stick with your recommended portions. Take advantage of this time to learn better eating habits - don't rely on your stomach to tell you when to stop eating. Protein is first - so unless you are getting all your protein before having potatoes or pastina - I'd reconsider your choices. Pasta of any kind can trigger more cravings for carbs.
  12. We have a Physiologist in our program too. I didn't have to see them and I'm not sure why but I assumed it was for those that had more issues with mobility or with lymphedema.

My new life begins in 1 day

@@thikkay The post-op diet can be challenging but stick with it - it will not only prepare your body for a safer surgery but will prepare your mind for post-op. One day at a time - it'll be surgery day before you know it! Good luck!

    Full liquid suggestions?

I have to call my Nutritionist tomorrow about what's allowed. I only have 2 more days but the thoughts of protein shakes make me want to cry. I haven't been able to drink broth either (mentally not physically).

    Getting over the guilt

You're not overweight, you have an eating disorder. You're 5'4", 125lbs with a BMI of 21. You're not overweight in any way, shape or form, and it's insulting that you keep pretending to be. Can you stop this charade, please? Wtf! Why is this still being allowed??

    Should I tell my housemate?

@@Nikkinee I don't know how you'd be able to keep it from him. I came home with 10 bottles of meds, had a visiting nurse, have all my fluids and protein in the kitchen. It's very hard to miss. I also would want his support- and not have to stress about lying. It's certainly your decision.

I would think a slice of deli meat and slice of cheese, a cheese stick...I think my plan is 2-4 ozs. You will lose muscle mass without enough protein.

@@PLEZ My plan is 4-6 small meals(about 3 hrs apart). I don't know how you could meet protein goals with only 3 meals. What are you getting for protein and calories? I would snack with a high protein snack (cheese, deli meat, nuts (limited though), pack of tuna.

    Odd sense of calm/confidence?

@@henryXyorkshire You are going into this with a great attitude and that will help tremendously. I was shocked that I was able to stick to my liquid pre-op diet without any problems (I thought for sure I'd at least be a major bitch). Dealing with my eating issues pre-op has helped me post-op (even though I am only 5 days out). I had a confidence like you describe. If your anxiety worsens post-op (hormones are crazy and can increase depression and anxiety) - don't hesitate to seek therapy and get on some meds (even temporarily). It sounds to me like you are ready for this new life! Best of luck!
