Insulin resistance and skin darkening
KristenLe replied to Lema's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the skin discoloration is related to PCOS - but don't remember for sure. Hopefully as symptoms of PCOS diminish with weight loss so will the discoloration. -
Daily calories allowed and serving size after surgery
KristenLe replied to volsfan82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you still follow up with your surgeon? I would schedule an appointment with both the nutritionist and Psych (to deal with food/caffeine issues). Are you tracking your food - protein, carbs, calories? What is a typical day eating look like? -
Are you getting enough protein and fluids?

Panick Attack, and almost fainted.....
KristenLe replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@reachbree Sounds scary! Are you not on protein shakes yet? Can you drink milk or V8 juice? I would think your blood sugar crashed but it could also be dehydration. After your shower - that could have triggered an episode. I would not worry about low sodium broth. You may actually need some sodium at this point. I'm on puree at day 8 - maybe you could explain what's going on to your Dr and can start earlier. It sounds as though you're starving and that's not good for healing either. Also please be careful driving - if you ever had a fainting spell like that behind the wheel it could be dangerous. Hope you feel better soon. -
Yes - but usually just regular vitamins.

Are you a month out? Have you talked to your Dr about not being able to eat. You need fluids and protein. -

I don't think postop will be anything like it is now! 2 weeks liquid diet will suck but its temporary. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App Dense Protein will be more filling and keep you satisfied longer too. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
VSG ... You have 1/2 of the weight I have and my surgeon recommended sleeve. I would not want to deal with malabsorption with RNY. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

Probably most stupid question

I don't think so. It might have to be done if your bladder is full during operation. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
Anyone ask their surgeon for this?
KristenLe replied to SalOdyssey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

@@KindaFamiliar I seriously just shot popsicle out of my nose! You are one funny ass bastard!!! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App -
You wouldn't get full on liquids. Most people have a lot of swelling that makes it difficult to get enough fluids but you seem like you're doing well. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

Higher calories break weight stall?
KristenLe replied to juliawhatever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eat more Protein or produce! I would avoid pasta, bread or rice. Make sure you're getting enough protein and fluids. 37lbs is a great loss - give your body time to adjust! -
Congrats!!! You look great!!

Hi everyone. I have my initial consultation with the surgeon on Wed June 29th. How long after the initial consultation do you have the surgery?
KristenLe replied to marnie86meg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will depend on a few things. Your insurance may have requirements for you to do a supervised weight loss program prior to approving surgery. In addition, you usually need a nutritionist visit and Psych Eval. Once met all requirements - they will submit for approval. Then start scheduling pre-op testing. That may include a sleep study, cardiac clearance, GI series, blood work, etc. I have to also attend two support groups. It can take anywhere from 2-9 months usually. If self pay - it might be quicker. Call your insurance to find out the requirements before your appointment. Good luck. -
I believe your protein shakes count towards your liquids. Just sip constantly. Good luck.

You look 10 years younger!!! Congrats!
