  1. I was wondering if anyone has tried to make popsicles with Syntrax nectar or some similar Protein drink? Can anyone think of a reason that freezing would be a problem - or effect the protein? Just trying to see if I could come up with a popsicle that would provide protein too - since I seem to be somewhat addicted to sugar free popsicles. Thanks! Kristen

    Weight Loss

More importantly - how much protein are you getting? Not all calories are created equal. Focus on protein and water!

    One Pound Weight Loss :-(

You can do this!!! Drink lots of no calorie drinks, watch your sodium intake and do high protein low carb.

    Late June Sleeve Buddies?

I would have 2-3 protein shakes and drink water, tea, broth, etc. Try sugar free popsicles too - they're helpful in getting the feeling of chewing while getting fluids.

Ask the insurance coordinator at your surgeon's office. They usually are a great resource.

    The Struggle

@@ojibway Although weight loss itself may not "help" your knee - it will certainly ensure an easier recovery if knee surgery is required. I believe @@Cervidae had knee surgery after WLS.

    Not losing weight

Although it is normal to stall around this time and your body is adjusting - I don't think you are getting enough Protein or Water. Don't pay attention to calories - eat protein (at least 60 gms) and get over 64oz of fluids. What are you eating daily?

They often discover positive h-pylori during an endoscopy (pre-op).

    Met my Surgeon today!

@@abreland Go with a high proten/low carb. Protein - tuna, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, cheese, greek yogurt, Beans, etc. Some good carbs would be fruit and vegetables (no Pasta, rice, bread, sweets, etc.). Good fat would be avocado, nuts, olive oil, etc. My plan suggests less than 5 gms of sugars (added sugar) and less than 5 gms fat in a serving of what I eat. Your nutritionist should be able to give you more information and guidance. Ask questions - and write everything down - ask for handouts for anything you may need too. Good luck.

@@olamae What weight do they use when submitting paperwork for prior approval to your insurance? Many surgeon's use the initial weight/BMI. How many weigh-ins do you have to do? I only lost 3 lbs during my 3 month supervised diet - and that was "trying" to lose weight. When I started, I basically ate healthy (just too much) and in my program I worked on eating more like I would post-op (high protein/low carb) but didn't watch portion size. Talk to your surgeon's office - especially the nutritionist and see what they recommend. Good luck.

    Pre surgery jitters

@@fit2bme It's very common to be nervous/anxious prior to surgery. Just keep reminding yourself of the reasons you are having surgery and what you want to accomplish after losing weight. Follow your surgeon's plan and all will go smoothly! Good luck!
  15. @@Amurillo04 When is your surgery? I would think as long as there's time to treat (if you have a UTI) - they won't cancel surgery. I wouldn't worry too much until the Drs read the results.

    Sleep Apnea

@@fhay It is usually a requirement for surgery that you are on CPAP for 30 days (compliant) before surgery. Once I got used to it - I actually love my CPAP - I sleep so much better (and I only have mild sleep apnea).

  19. @@ciciz It's normal to be exhausted after surgery - especially when your calorie intake is so limited with WLS. I would try and increase your fluids - especially if it is hot out where you live (it's in the 90's here today). Have sugar free popsicles, broth, maybe some G2 (electrolytes). Rest and take it easy!

    So confused...

@ You have less weight to lose than some of us - so it will be slower. However, I would skip the meal replacement bar and crackers. My plan suggests eating 5-6 small meals a day (3 hours in between). This should be Protein first and if room - produce. You need to watch your sugars and carbs (some Protein Bars are high in sugar and there's too many carbs in crackers in this stage (especially if you're not losing as expected). Your meal replacement bars or shakes should have less than 5 gms of sugar and 5 gms of fat. Try eating eggs, hummus, cottage cheese, tuna, baked fish, chicken salad (no crackers). Not sleeping properly can affect your weight loss as well. You can get some fluids through sugar free popsicles, crystal light, infused Water, broth, etc. Good luck with your nutritionist!!! Keep us posted!

    Hard Time Deciding

@@gubygubb Along with my surgeon and the Bariatric Team (nutritionist/psych) - we decided on the Sleeve. This was based on my eating habits and medical history. My Team felt I only needed the restriction provided with the Sleeve and not the mal-absorption that comes along with the Bypass. Good luck with your journey - what ever you decide to do!
