  1. Welcome! You're a very lucky guy - it's a good thing you went to the ER when you did!!! You sound like a great WLS candidate! Good luck on your journey!

    Confused.

@@tenseintexas Because you aren't able to eat much quantity - it's important to eat quality. That's why most plans recommend protein first. Eventually you'll be able to eat more and you don't want to fall into the same pre-surgery habits. Some foods are considered sliders which means you can eat larger amounts and eat "around" your sleeve. Eating healthy (changing eating habits) is important with any WLS - although you can eventually eat most foods in limited quantities.

    2-month preop help?

    Absolutely!

    Pulmonary test question

Before wasting time at another Dr - what was the purpose of this visit? Do you need a Sleep Study prior to surgery? If so - another Dr is going to do the same - refer you for a Sleep Study. A sleep study is done at home or in a sleep clinic. They won't test you at a Drs appt.

    2-month preop help?

Eliminate sodas. Eat high protein low carb. 50% Protein 50% Produce (at each meal) is what my program suggested. Use smaller plates. Avoid mindless eating or distractions (no eating while watching TV or driving, pay attention to every bite). If you have specific eating habits - work on them (ie. eliminate junk food). Good luck.

@@Luna Try other fluids - crystal light, sugar free popsicles, infused water, tea, broth, Isopure, Propel Water, Life Water Zero, G2... You need to do whatever possible to get plenty of fluids. Good luck.

    My story

Welcome Ashley! I think it's fantastic that you're going to address your obesity problem at such a young age! There are many who have had WLS with PCOS. I have PCOS and am still pre-op. PCOS symptoms appear to be drastically improved after WLS. There's a special forum for PCOS Sleevers I believe. Best of luck!
  9. So as I wait patiently for my pre-op testing to be ordered and surgery scheduled - I end up with a pinched nerve in my neck (have disc disease). I am being referred to a Spine Specialist and put on neurontin in the meantime. If this screws up the timing of my WLS - I'm going to be apeshit! :-(

    Pinched Nerve Neck

I haven't tried. This is affecting my left arm...fingers numb, pain from neck thru shoulder, elbow and fingers. Just called Spine specialist and they're booking out into September (when I'm supposed to be scheduled for WLS). I'm hoping I can find away to be seen sooner.
  12. @@Unbridled You do not need someone to stay. At check in they will ask you who if anyone is with you or a phone number of someone you want the surgeon to call once you are in recovery. It's good to have someone hear how things went from the surgeon (because you won't remember much of what he or she says). I waited until my SO was done (eye surgery) and they brought me back to recovery to be with him once he woke up. I dropped my sister off and the surgeon called twice - first time to say surgery delayed so I wouldn't be worried and again after surgery to tell me she was ok and how it went. No one needs to stay overnight.

  16. So I have been eating a lot of popsicles lately. Last night I scared the crap out of myself. I started having difficulties speaking and thought "holy shit -I think I'm having a stroke"! Well it wasn't a stroke (Thank God) - I had a frozen tongue from popsicles! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

I can eat Beans on day 8 - not all plans require full liquids for weeks. I am on full liquids for days 1-7 and then puree. Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

    Insurance Says NO! BSCA

Does your BMI meet requirements? Your insurance coordinator may have been given wrong info - that seems common with BC. I would ask for a printout of coverage and give to coordinator . Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App

  22. I would suggest gaining a few pounds. (I know that is against everything we are trying to do). The surgeon won't tell you to go home - but insurance may deny you.

    Eating Post-Op?

Hummus, ricotta bake (recipe online), refried beans (in Mexican food section of grocery store) with melted cheese, puree chicken and add mayo (could add dill relish or avocado too). Be creative! Enjoy!
  25. How much protein are you getting? Fluids are important - you are most likely dehydrated. If you can't get in fluids - call your Dr. It's very dangerous to be dehydrated. Let us know how you are doing.
