I would like someones input here. I started my journey Feb. 2nd 08. Did nutritionist, physc, support groups, seminar, cardio, endoscopy, manometry and passed all until endo they found moderate hiatal hernia, manometry low pressure in les musclle then last friday the 25th I got a call from surgeons nurse at 1:pm no surgery either bypass or band. That same day at 5:30 a call from my gastro. He said on message machine, things look good on your manometry a bit hypertensive but your not symptomatic, it looks like no interference with surgery were his words, Im going to take your test home and I will give you a call Tues. Well its now Sat. and I called his nurse and she said he took your files and you will be getting a call Mon or Tues of next week , note we are now in June. I pulled my files from 1st surgeon where he could'nt tell me why he would not operate. Made an appt. with new surgeon , he will see me Friday June 6th. The new surgeon excels in gall bladder and banding. My question is: If I want this band and the new surgeon is willing to band me, should I keep this gastro for any problems down the road.? And if they have doubts about my low pressure and hernia NOT go through with the banding or ask if there is any other alternative , the weight must come off. One person in the chat room, said first surgeon may not want to take on the liability if esophagus is in trouble. Please give me your input .

Tina, Im a 58 yr,old woman and I have been dealt the same cards as you. I look at it differently tho. First off his loss. Second off you have lost the weight which is part of your journey now learning alot about yourself and your marriage, move on. I did . People tell me all the time life is part of learning and unfortunately you have to go through alot of crap before you learn to take from that experience. Men have a different makeup than us women, I read the book Women are from Venus, Men from Mars great reading and learning men do not and will never have the same feelings as we, so if your looking for loyality, unconditonal love, and integrity look harder into thy self., or get a dog as a pet. I'm sorry for your findings out about him, but move on and dive within yourself and life goes on, you will be a much happier person. And as my mom use to say, what dirt goes in the wash comes out alot cleaner. Pat

Yes, I have. I went yesterday for an esophageal manometry. My dr. has been very cautious. My gastro put me on Previcid and it helped alot. Maybe you should call your gastro for help. They are not fun, feels like a heart attack. Just chew your food alot more and dont rush thru your meals. Stay calm no matter what you do. I also found warm liquid such as tea, or warm water with lemon will stop them.

Hi shan, My doc went over this with the support group. You can start exercising 8 weeks out after banding. This includes what your speaking of, just go at a slow pace at first then build up to what your use to. Your incisions will tell you if your able to go the whole way.

Hiatal Hernia/EGD Surgery Tomorrow Morning
Tweety/Pat replied to dlollie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, Last Wednesday I had and endoscopy done. They found Barretts Esophagus, large hiatal hernia, 5mm tear in my esophagus. I also walked away with Aspirated pneumonia with which they gave me Amoxicillin and a follow up with my Primary this Thurs. Now I must ask, will I after going through all the clearances be able to get the lapband. Can surgeon fix it all? Also I must have problems with anesthesia . -
Pschy. Eval do you tell the whole truth?
Tweety/Pat replied to katie78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I went and it was just a chat. Mostly he wanted to know if you were stable enough to go through the procedure. He wanted to know if you were educated about it, asked if I had ever thought about suicide? If I was ever abused as a child or adult. That was the basic questions, then he brought up on the computer the model of band and asked if I investigated before coming to him . I said yes and it was over. He shook my hand, said good bye . -
Angie, I had a cut on my mouth and in my mouth, 3 weeks after the procedure, I spit out plastic from the roof of my mouth. But this is not going to stop me from getting the band. BSurgeon knows all about it. He asked me to get an endoscopy. 3/27 I go to the gastro then he will set up a date for endoscope. Then I will call Surgeon and see what happens. I think my day may be April late or early May pending all goes well.

Don't want General Anaesthesia
Tweety/Pat replied to ccc0206's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
General anesthesia, I had a cone byopsy done in April 06 the fine anethesiast came to my bedside and said nicely. Young lady you gave us quite a scare. You hemoragged during the procedure what didn't you tell me. I said I told you everything in my chart, did you read it.? Today I had to go to the hospital to have them pull my operation from archives. Guess what she didn't list any problems. so talking about it with surgeon, he said I wont use her for your procedure. I have the best anesthesiologist you can ask for. so its either she pierced my esphogus or she removed some polyps in my thorax. Who knows. She never reported it . so talking about scared or apprehensive its me. -
because when they do the operation the gas they insert in you numbs you and therefore it breathes for you. This is general anesthesia. Its is fine unless they pierce your esphogus wall. Then you bleed and they bring you out.

hI . WELL, I will probably be gettin the surgery in April, I'm a manager at the Welcome Center, I do not lift much. I'm more a babysitter for my counselors. I have a desk job but to be safe I plan on taking 10 days after surgery. My days off are Thurs and Fridays, so I can only hope he operates on Tues taking Wednesday as a personal day and Saturday to Wednesday as vacation time. Good Luck to all the future banders.

Getting banded tomorrow morning!
Tweety/Pat replied to LiseSeattle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
good luck I wish you the best. Pat -
My Pych test was just a chat. He wants to know if you are aware of what is done, how it is done, and you have to stand firm. I went in there telling him I have researched it for about 1 yr, and I even said I could give you the operation I know so much he laughed. They ask you if you go into depression, he asked me if I was ever abused and he then asked if I ever thought about suicide. I said laughing if I dont get approved for this operation you will see depression and suicide. laughing he said you have a great personality, I said thank you and he said he would write the letter tomorrow. Just stay confident
