Antidepressants Post Op?
jnt1 replied to Erin Nicole Davis Kling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded in 2008...took my small anti deps no probkems. Take them to hospital with you and they will administer to you as they should be.After years struggling with tge band im having a revision to bypass. If its possible fir you to go with sleeve instead i recommend it. Tge band is hughly fallinle and 80% of bands have to be removed within 10 years due to hiatus hernua, overworked esophagus, and weight gain. Mist banders will tell you it is the biggest medical con of the 20th century. Sorry for tge bad news but Re think if possible. Have a read of the posts under the forum heading "gastric band to bypass". It will give you a pretty realistic picture of the band. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -

jnt1 replied to shutterbythesea's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm having revision from band to bypass at age 51. Banded at age 44. Never thought i would be overweight again but it all crept back on in the last 3 years???? Scared about the bypass but it has to be permanent this time to keep it off. Good luck! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -

Did your surgeon think the hernia was a priblem to do the revision? I have one too and he us worried about what scaring he will find when he has a look inside. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Jen dont be so hard on yourself...59 lbs in that time is amazing!! The only suggestion I have is probably to add in some movement. Dont beat yourself up though...thats a great achievement!! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Lap band to gastric bypass revision info
jnt1 replied to Stacylynn1982's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That is so exciting and great to hear! Congratulations on your success! In tge beginning i was about the biggest success i had heard about from the band. I was happy with my rapid weight loss of 75#. But then it just stopped and it was such a struggle. So much vomitting from an overtight band....you know...a living hell!! But the doctors kept telling me it was me! Im really afraid of having the bypass because it's a so permanent. Im terrified! ! Do you regret it at all and can you eat normal foods yet? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Lap band to gastric bypass revision info
jnt1 replied to Stacylynn1982's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Wow marimar66 your story is very similar to mine. I did have initial success with the band, losing 30kgs (75 pounds) but as problems developed each time i had the Fluid out to recover i would gain a bit back. 4 kgs here...5 kgs there... eventually after 5 years I've gained it all back. ..and spend 24 hours a day beating myself up for failing!!! Its worse than if id never had the band really. I found out a couple of years ago that in Australia surgeons are paid more to temove the band than to put it in! Its a win win for the surgeons. I'm over in England so we definitely don't live near! In Britain our sign language is totally different to ASL although I am planning to do an ASL course soon. Definitely better to only tell people who really care x Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App I'm 2nd April x Sent from my SM-G920F using the BariatricPal App Hi suepro. Whereabouts in England are you? I'm in Perth Australia...also a long way away but lived in the UK for many years as my father is English. I think the UK was right into the gastric band, and like Australia has recently moved more towards bypass due to the higher success of bypass and dismal failure of the band as a surgical method. I think the band was really a big expensive con! Are you having the RNY or the newer Omega loop/ mini bypass? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

What is the difference between the RNY and gastric bypass?
jnt1 replied to foxhound1214's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
They are not always the same. There are 2 types of Bypass surgery. Mini bypass/Omega loop and the Roux en Y. Onega loop has one anastemosis. RNY has two anastemoses and greater issues with malabsorbtion. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App Thank you for clarifying this. The question was comparing the gastric bypass to the Roux-En-Y, which I have heard and read people (including doctors) use interchangeably; not the mini-bypass. My surgeon doesnt call it mini bypass...he just calls both 'bypass'...they are just different methods. As he says theres nothing "mini" about it.There is a 3rd type of bypass as well....less common. Lap band.. To gastric bypass.. And thinking of revision.!

Lap band.. To gastric bypass.. And thinking of revision.!
jnt1 replied to chubby.peach's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I must say chubby peach that i didnt come to the decision of bypass lightly! The mini gastric bypass is the only other reversible procedure. The total stomach stays in your body producing gastric juices for digestion. That is not the case with the sleeve. What country are you in...i notice you write in kilos. ..thank goodness!! So over the pounds conversion ???? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Lap band.. To gastric bypass.. And thinking of revision.!
jnt1 replied to chubby.peach's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My story us similar to yours. ..i lost 30kg in first 2 years and slowly gained it back. Next month i am having surgery revision to a mini gastric bypass. My very experienced weight loss surgeon said there is no point trying the sleeve. If the band gas failed the sleeve wont be right. Also the band has been eroding my stomach, caused a hernia and affected my esophagus. A dangerous and unsafe procedure in my opinion. I can never recomnend the band. ..ive spent so many nights in emergency!!! Cant wait for the bypass. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
You need the crunch and chew of foods to mentally signal that youve eaten. Some dry crackers with whole grain are good for feeling full if you crunch and chew them well. Too much runny sloppy food just doesnt fill you up. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

13 Things To Know About Living With the Lap-Band
jnt1 replied to George Fielding MD's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
What the band doesnt offer that other WLS surgeries do offer is the effect on hunger hormones. This is a big failing with the band as to feel hungry yet have the tiny stomach us like a horrible torture! ! I cant wait to have my gb revised to mini bypass next month. Great article on LAP-BAND surgery by surgeon who had LAP-BAND.
jnt1 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had gastric band in 2009. Im about to be revised to a mini bypass. There have been numerous studies showing the general failure of the band as a weight loss method. A swiss study in 2010 showed that 80% of patients with bands will have to have them removed within 8 years. It has been known to have a poor outcome for many years now. RNY VS Sleeve for a type 2 diabetic?
jnt1 replied to MissMerc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The research all shows an excellent result in complete reversal of type 2 diabetes with the mini gastric bypass. Lots of dats showing some people showed no more signs of diabetes as little as 3 days after bypass surgery. You should discuss this with your surgeon. jnt1 replied to foxhound1214's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are two types of Bypass surgery. Roux en Y is tge older style and has 2 anastomoses (joins). The othe bypass is called Omega Loop or mini bypass and has just 1 anastomosis. Mini bypass is about 20 years old. It has less loss of nutrients and requires less supplements throughout lifetime. Dont be fooled by "mini" as its still a full bypass. If you Google the mini bypass you will see the difference to RNY. I am just about to have my gastric band revised to a mini bypass. I believe the most well known surgeon in the USA is Dr Rutledge. He gas 100's of videos to watch about it. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -

I also find that my very overweight best friend is the one most opposed to it!It would be great for us to do it together, but she just doesnt want to give up her relationship with food. She has come close to talking me out of this surgery....telling me to try injections, pills....all temporary fixes. I'm done with being fat...bypass it is!! I dont tell people about my procedure...didnt tell them about the band either. Its tricky because i need time of work as an Art teacher. But i have a hiatus hernia (caused by the gastric band) so i can legitimately say i need time off for that operation and not have to make up a story☺. People are so judgemental about weight and i always hear the old adage "just eat less and move more". ..they have NO IDEA. Im looking forward to being back to a size where i am taken seriously and not pre-judged by my weight. Like all of us inside I'm a skinny girl...i dont identify with my fat body and i dont know how i got to this place to be honest? I do attribute some of my metabolic issues to 10 years as an anorexic in my teens and twenties. The strange thing with the bypass is that im actually turning myself back into an anorexic again. Whatever it takes i guess? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App
