jnt1 replied to UsernameTaken's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Oh i am so happy to read your story! I'm having revision from band to bypass on April 19th and i am terrified! My biggest fear is that i will never be able to est "normal" foods again....like a nice salad or grilled fish or beef. I dont care about large portions...just to have the variety. Please tell me your experiences with eating now that you are about 4 months post op? Cant wait to hear your story! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -

jnt1 replied to WW0747's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Im interested to hear hiw many are gaving band to bypass done in 1 procedure? Im having band to bypass done in one surgery on April 19th. I know not all surgeons do it...interested to hear about those who have had it please? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Hi everyone its so good to read your stories! Im having a band to bypass revision on 19th April and I'm scared as hell!!! I had initial success with the band in 2009 but by 20011 i was in and out of emergency like a revolving door. What a nightmare. I thought it was me all along. But now i know it was really the band as it has proven to be a pretty useless device long term. I lost weight by starving myself. Couldnt eat a nice healthy salad. .only sloppy foods..... So now that im going with the bypass im so afraid that i wont be successful and also that ill be destined to a life of yoghurt and sloppy foods. An people who have had the bp please tell me what and how they eat now...at varying stages post surgery? Im hoping that a year down the track i can eat a healthy salad and a piece of fish? Or some grilled meat and steamed vegetables? I couldnt do that with the band. I spent half my life vomitting and the other half starving! Alo, is it true that you lose your appetite...because thats what im really looking forward to! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Ive had a band since 2009 and you never really stop feeling hungry. Its just that ur new stomach is small so it feels full. But the hunger is created by hormones in the lining of your stomach and theyre still there and active all the time unlike with sleeve or bypass. I lijed the vand at first but am having a revision to bypass next week because i cant stand the hunger feeling any more. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

To "Bypass" or to "Sleeve"?
jnt1 replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have a look on the website of Dr Rutledge about bypass. I was unsure but after wzter hours of video content I'm gaving a bypass on April 19th. The sleeve stats show weight regain after 2 years, bypass is successful longer term and you keep the digestive acids from your stomach which makes a difference. I'll try and paste another link to a video here soon Good luck Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Thats great Jessica you look absolute gorgeous!!! Well done. You go girl. Have you ever regretted having your procedure at all? And do you feel hungry? Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Not feeling enough restriction anymore
jnt1 replied to loseit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a unfortunately a very familiar story with the band. I was banded in 2009 and had great weight loss for 2 years The.....nothing. stopped completely. The research shiws clearly that this is the bodies response to the starvation. I had my band revised in 2012 but never got real success.Since then i have slowly regained 90% of my loss over 4 years. Next week I'm scheduled for a revision to a bypass. My surgeon who is a leading weight loss expert in Australia said the band is simply not effective for me any more. The body fights to get back to original weight....the fat cells have a memory! Aside from that the band has eroded into my stomach and has caused a hernia...common side effect. The European stats show that 80% of patients will have the band removed within 10 years. The procedure first started in Europe so they have more data. If you're not getting restriction ask to be checked for slippage ir a hiatus hernia. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Surgery on April 11th, cheated on liquid fast last night.

It sounds like what your having is pretty much what my dietician recommends in pre op. I am on two shakes and one meal per day. Meal is small serve lean protein and vegetables from a 'free' list. ..excludes starchy and high carb veges but cucunber tomatoes, broccoli, green Beans...all allowed in good volumes to make up for Fiber. Its sugary and flour based Snacks that you must avoid. Dont beat yourself up. You're doing well! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
What country are you in? And what country did u have your surgery in? You could start by seeing your family doctor and discussing your concerns. Stop the puree and stick with liquids until you feel more comfortableBut please go see a doctor!! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

There is a newer treatment that is like a super intense ultra sound that superheats the bone growth from the inside. Over the next few months the growth should start to shrink back by itself. I dont think its 100% effective but you have to keep the foot warm for a couple of weeks after procedure. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

I think doctors that still insert gastric band are opening themslves up to a legal nightmare. The band is dangerous and has so many negative side effects. Its a very scary device that is painted as so easy and simple...very misleading. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Antidepressants Post Op?
jnt1 replied to Erin Nicole Davis Kling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The US government has been investigating the gastric band devices in the Supreme court. You will no doubt find plenty of research on that investigation and pending class action. http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/364311-Lap-Band-complications#entry4116620 Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
Antidepressants Post Op?
jnt1 replied to Erin Nicole Davis Kling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Swiss study in the Lancet was done over 10 years...2000-2010. It is real data and certainly not anecdotal. Europe and Australia have been using the band for 16 years now. I merely referenced the forum for you to read some examples. As I have a PhD myself I certainly do know the difference between anecdote and data!! I personally lost 30 kgs with the band. Before the problems started. Many surgeons in Europe and Australia are no longer doing it due to the high number of complications associated. Good luck with your procedure. HiOn BariatricPal if you go to 1. Forums. 2. Main Forum Bypass Surgery. 3. Gastric band to bypass revision. You can read dozens of accounts of peoples experiences with the band and how and why they're having it revised. I tried to copy some links for u but it doesnt work with this app. Good luck. Julie. Antidepressants Post Op?
jnt1 replied to Erin Nicole Davis Kling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 80% figure is based on a Swiss study in 2010, published in Lancet. I dont have the link anymore but you could probably google something like "gastric band failure rate"?If you go onto the forum section on Bariatricpal there is a section for "gastric band to bypass" you can read numerous threads from patients who have had the band and revising to bypass. I didnt want to believe it but sadly it is not a good procedure...most patients end up with hernias due to the pressure in the new small pouch...its just physics. The website of Dr Rutledge (USA surgeon) has a lot of info about band failures. He has researched it extensively and does 100's of revisions. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App -
When i first had a gastric band ( 2009) i was losing weight so quickly. I arranged with my husband to give me a charm for my Pandora bracelet for every 3 kgs. I lost 30 kgs so my bracelet filled up a bit. Sadly in the last 3 years the band hasn't worked. Now I'm having bypass in 2 weeks...start again. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Hi Sallo Its so good to read the experiences of a fellow Aussie. How great is our health system when u read what USA patients go thru to get "permission" for surgery?! Here if a doctor says you need it, your health fund covers it. No questions. We are lucky! My dietician sounds a lot like yours. She works in the rooms with the surgeon...who also trains all the WA gastric and bariatric surgeons at UWA. She says all the straight talk but at the same time she allows flexibility. She's realistic...all 50 kgs of her! ???????? The mini gastric bypass is whats called "single anastemosis bypass". Similar to RNY but with only one join(anastemosis) instead of two. Often called 'omega loop'...you can google it for diagrams. It is potentially reversible. Popular in USA since 1999 and common in Australia now since 2014. The reliance on Vitamin supplements is less for some reason. How many kilos do you want to lose? My dietician keeps saying im aiming at the healthy weight range...not the perfect bmi. I want to lose 50kgs. Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App

Hi Sallo are you in Perth by any chance? Your surgeon sounds a lot like my proffessor surgeon. So glad to find another Aussie on here! Did you have RNY or a "mini"/omega loop bypass? I look forward to following your progess...my surgery is 19 April. Scared as hell!!! Sent from my GT-I9505 using the BariatricPal App
