SANDY, Where are you reading so many bad things about lap band? Is it on another board? Are you posting on a lap band board?

Sandy, I really like eating also and some days I want to eat more than I can because it just tastes good. But is it really psychologically healthy to have such a "love affair" with food? I know we should enjoy it but its purpose is to help us sustain our bodies. Take a look at why you like to eat so much. You have to get honest with yourself. I ate because there was no one in my life in my opinion that cared, because I lived by myself and because I was bored. I am also an emotional eater. I have let food satisfy my needs. It has been my drug of choice. I certainlly have not been perfect in this journey, but am trying to face these issues. Remember you will always be able to eat, just not as much as you used to! I can eat just about anything with the exception of some breads. I don't know how overweight you are but for me I had tried all the diets and yo yo dieted all my life. My health was becomong an issue. Giving up chips ( which I still eat occasionally) doesn't compare to being noticed again, having more energy, or fitting into smaller clothesl Is it success that you fear or giving up food? Think about the big picture and let me know what you think!

That hardest thing for me has been to slow down while eating and to chew thoroughly! I have really had a time with that especially when I am with others and am hungry. I have gotten stuck several times because of this and not taking small enough bites al resulting in throwing up. Stress really effcts my band and makes me tight so I really have to be aware of that also. All that said I wouldn't change the journey for anything! I am down 77lbs and loving it!

cravings for pop
teacher5thgrade replied to beautifult's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been out for a little over 6 months and have only a few sips of soda. I do crave it sometimes, but I too know it will stretch your stomach and it doesn't make me feel very good when I had it. -
Too fat for lapband?
teacher5thgrade replied to memeluv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a little over 6 months out and have lost 61lbs so far. Your doctor definitely has an agenda of some kind. My doctor did not recommend banding for people that had a high BMI but I am not sure what that number is now. I stated with a BMI of 47.8 and the doctor told me banding was a perfectly logical choice for me. Be honest with yourself. You CAN lose more than 50lbs, no question, but it is not always easy and it takes a while to get to proper restriction. If you can deal with that, go for it! And good luck! I was self pay also and it is worth every penny and I will be paying off my surgery for several years! -
You really need to try and find protein of some kind in the morning. I am much like you in the morning, but have found that if Iwill eat protein in the morning and get full I am much better off for the rest of the day. Some suggestions might be eggs of some kind, cheese, yogurt, apples and peanut butter, turkey bacon, etc. Just remember it does not have to be typical breakfast food. I am buying Boars Head deli meat from Kroger and eating that in the mornings. It fills me up and I am happy till lunch.

My doctor said 1-2lbs a week. Doen's sound like you are eating enough. Most recommend 1,200-1,400 calories a day.

Wow! What will your clinical consist of? How long will you be in this study? Will it be for band patients only? How fortunate you are to have a sister to go with you! Sounds like some healthy compeition and support. Good luck and stay in touch!

Sounds like a great idea! I keep treats for my students at school and have learned I can no longer keep chocolate of any kind at school or I will eat it before they get it as snacks! I know this empowers your teenager and makes him really "cool!" I can just imagine the conversations he's had with his friends about this!

I just had steamed crab legs yeaterday and they went down fine. I don't have a lot of restriction, but some. Seafood is the easiest thing for me to eat.

Hello From Georgia
teacher5thgrade replied to Brinabrina77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I am from south Georgia also. Live in Blackshear, but had surgery in Waycross. I am 55 years old and teach school. I have weight issues all my life and am now willing to face them. I am learning what a stronghold food has in my llife. This is not going to be an easy journey, but definitely a very worthwhile one. I want to be able to keep up with my precious 3yr old grandaughter!
