I loved your post. I remember 2+ years ago I saw your posting then, you were so close to your goal and then you hit it. You are an inspiration to me to get out and exercise.. Congrats.

3 years banded, how often do you need fills??
SueAZ replied to ragdollx19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had my band 2 years and still have questions. The group that did my surgery requires followup each year. That's to maintain their status of center of excellence. What I wish they had was a more structured program with more followups not just once a year. There support groups were not very good. They had both bypass and band meet together, with the majority being bypass. That said, I have to call for an appointment and see the doctor. I think if your losing or maintaining if you have made it to goal you don't need to see the drs or have a fill. -
If you fall down- get back up and make the scale go down!
SueAZ replied to kimmyv's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you Kimmyv !!! I read your post it could have been written by me. I'm 2 years out and have become really lax on my eating and exercise. It's no wonder I've stalled my weight loss. I'm calling my drs office and getting an appointment to get myself back on track.. Thanks for the wakeup call.... -
The club I go to has a Rookie Zumba. You may try it first because it will give you an idea of how much you will be able to take. Right after surgery I was always tired. Good luck to you.

PLATEAU!!! How many of hit a plateau at approximately 1 year out?
SueAZ replied to ShelleyB's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm just at the two year mark and I stalled a while back. I think my problem is that I wasn't exercising and I was happier with how I was looking. I got very relaxed at what I was eating. I am now putting exercise first. I problably could get a small fill but I don't want the PB'ing that can occur. I have it sometimes but usually it's because I have eaten to fast or to big of bites. But I am so happy that I have maintained what I had lost. -
My doctor and nurse discouraged the full feeling. Mainly because of the time it takes the brain to say I'm full. By then I've eatan to much. That's why they encourage only eating the 1/2 cup protein and 1/2 cup veggies. Waiting 10 -15 minutes then see if you are actually hungry. Not thinking you haven't eaten enough. That's my problem it just doesn't seem like it's enough but that's the brain talking not the stomach. I'm trying to stop when I'm satisfied rather than full. Good luck to you.

The Band Take a Cruise to the Tropics
SueAZ replied to UpperWestSide's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Upper Westside I never thought about ordering the appetizers I ususally just went to the Entrees. I going to take a long look at that next week. Yeah 10 southern on Ruby Princess I can't wait.. -
It's definately time to see the doctor. I wouldn't be surprised if you got a complete unfill. You have done fabulous. I was banded about the same time and haven't done as well. But saying that I am so glad that I did the band. I love that it keeps me in check and if I'm good the scale goes down. The food choices and exercises choices are mine I just need to make better ones. Good luck to you.

The Band Take a Cruise to the Tropics
SueAZ replied to UpperWestSide's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I remember the first cruise I took after getting the band. I was wondering if I would have problems. I did but they were of my own making. I wonder now if I was drinking enough water. I bet I wasn't. I never realized that, that could cause a problem. I will now drink more water. My biggest problem was just saying no to all the food they wanted to give me. I usually just ordered the entree and even with that, asked the waiter to find the smallest portion he could. He had to wonder cause I"m not a small person. But I just smiled and said I still had days to go and lots of meals to get through, they (the staff) will help you get what you want. I liked the omlette station too, with bacon and cheese YUM I usually split it with my hubby, and that helped. So all of you out there cruising is NOT about the food, it's the adventure and fun activities you should try. Here's to taking the stairs instead of the elevator... -
I've had that problem too. I believe that I blocked the the stoma opening. Either with a piece of food or with bread or potatoes. Then of course the slyming begins with no where to go but up and out. What a pain it can be. I usually give myself a break and have a instant breakfast for the next day to start and very little portions to see what the stomach handles.

I never seem to have trouble with bad food. My problem seems to be eating to fast or to big of bites. No two days seem to be the same. Somedays are easy as pie. Other days I can't seem to eat anything without PB'ing. That's my life with the band. But the thing that keeps me going is that I'm lighter than I have been in 30+ years. I figure I can live with the ups and down. Better than the weight.

Nothing like a good challenge to get the body motivated. I just started with a personal trainer 2 weeks ago, to get me back on target. I've been lazy this past year.

I am a slow loser. I have been banded for 18 months and am down almost 40 pounds. I have been eating around the band most of year. My first 5 months were great. Then I thought I new it all. I only had 5.5 in the band. I just went back and got a fill. I still only have about 6 in the band. I do feel the fill this time. . I am surprised that at 8 you don't feel full for a long time. I do now. I know that it is so easy to grab something that sides easy.(Chocolate for me) That's what I am really watching now. I would just make sure that you have 8 in your band. That seems like a lot in just a few months. My records at the surgeons office weren't right. So double check.
